#2 at Ponkapoag Golf Club

It wasn’t until I actually teed off from the first hole of the second golf course that I realized that I entered golf heck.

As a state run course, I am embarrassed for my Commonwealth. I almost want excuse the lack of rain for the conditions of this course, however, there is no doubt that the greenskeeper expired four months ago, as nothing has been done about any issues across the course.

I can deal with Sandy Green’s, but when one of the greens is half mud and half sand and I’m not sure where it begins and where it ends I don’t think I’m the one that’s at fault nor can I blame Mother Nature.

I will say that the quality of pace of play is only slow when the golfer in front of you is hitting four balls per turn and gives you the attitude that it’s your fault you’ve caught up to them. There is no management there is no direction, and the biggest disappointment is, that is absolutely a great course if it was managed better.

If I didn’t pay a discounted price to pay for this round, I would’ve been outraged and demanded my money back. Oh, check your golf cart before you go because some of their motors are “going”. I learned that while I was picking up my clubs from the car.

My biggest disappointment is not being able to upload the photos to show how bad this course actually is.

By far the worst course I have ever played. The conditions were awful. You could not putt on the greens because there were holes filled with sand.

I paid for a cart but they wouldn’t let us take one, and his only explanation was that he personally didn’t receive any money so he didn’t care.

Even though it is a cheap course, it is still a waste of money. Do not play here

Don't spend your money on the greens fee and just go hit a few buckets because the course is unplayable.

I couldn’t believe the reviews were actually as bad as they said, then I went and played 18 holes and boy was wrong.

I have played some really bad courses in my life, but to say that this course takes the cake, is “wedding esque”

There were some literal greens that were half sand and half dirt. I took pictures because I couldn’t believe one of the greens was actually five feet in diameter. Not the Teebox, the actual green where the pin is.

I’m almost angry golf now does not let me post pictures because my anger doesn’t do it justice only photos can.

Worst conditions Ive ever seen. Don’t bother putting the green doesn’t exist.

The greens are half dirt and sand, it is atrocious how unkempt they are, it would be preferable to just have sand and make the surface texture consistent at least.

Nice layout, some of the greens & tee boxes need work. overall good value for the price.

Both courses have an unbelievable layout with huge potential to become a great golf destination but the greens are completely bare and bumpy….

You basically cannot putt.

I love going there because of Hotdeals to get practice in and work on my game, and most definitely not for scoring….

Hope they get some serious funding and turn the place into a wonderful place as it has tremendous potential.

As I said, this is not the worst course in Massachusetts. This is the worst course in the country. They don't even try anymore. It is worth playing just to see it. I cannot explain to you how bad the tee boxes and greens are.

We played course 2. Layout was nice pace of play was slow there was a large group 2 gruos in front of us. Didn't care nice so I didn't care course from the T Boxes to the greens conditions were terrible. When we finished first nine of 18, we took a break grabbed something to eat and about 30 min or so later continued to second 9. Where we were questions by staff per request from someone in the pr shop how many holes we were playing when I told him 18 was questioned as to why we were taking so long. I proceeded to tell him about the large group on the first 9 holes..gentle still had an attitude. But employee who was present told us not to worry about it

Guy working 8/4 didn’t bother answering his phone. Had a question about cart rentals. Paid and wasted my money when

I’ve been going to this course since I was a kid and it is still one of my favorites for that reason, but it is in really bad shape. Without a doubt, the worse greens I’ve ever seen in my life with some of them more than half dirt. Having said that, it is cheap after 5 Pm. Spending less than $20 here is fine, but it is a crime they charge more than that. If you’re okay with poor conditions and some holes being in the middle of the fairway due to some attempted green repairs, it’s a good cheap option.

Ponky is a tough course to review with stars, it needs some explanations behind it.

The layout is awesome, a few tricky holes, definitely challenging but not overwhelming, and some good par 5’s. But then at the same time, there is a public walkway in the middle of the course where people are walking dogs or children and going for runs.

For course conditions, my front lawn is actually better kept than some of the fairways, and their greens are actually sometimes either half dirt, or a temporary hole in the fairway instead (they don’t tell you that ahead of time)

I like ponky, I’m not a picky golfer so poor greens and thick fairway don’t bother me, just wanted to make sure people are aware it’ll be a round of preferred lies and extended gimmies if you want a decent score.

Overall I recommend it, it’s cheap enough, there’s always tee times and it can be a great time as long as you’re willing to accept the conditions.
