Decent course not a 4.5 star rating out of 5.
After reading several reviews I decided to drive over an hour to play Halifax. Overall it’s a good course. Many reviews talk about how it’s a private course feel and how the fairways were plush. I’ve played several private courses and I can honestly tell you it is far from private. The layout is challenging and the tee box’s were either very good or not. I wish people would be honest on here because some of us like to travel to experience nice courses. If I lived in the area I might play it again. I am a bit discouraged overall as this was my last round this year as I had back surgery and I should have played Pinehills instead. Oh well. Live and learn.
Fun course to play
The course is wet! VERY WET. In the fairway the water pools around your feet don't bother looking for relief for you would have to move 20yds plus. Some of the rough like a swamp. Greens fast fun and lots of slope. Cart path only. I will play this course when it dries out.
Nice layout, excellent greens
Early season round, so still some winter conditions but tee boxes and greens were terrific.
Country Club of Halifax
The course was in great shape although a little wet from the recent rain. The greens were very fast and one could only imagine how fast they will be during the hot days of summer. The course is not all that interesting, exciting or challenging but it's a perfectly enjoyable course to play, and reasonably priced, at least st this time of year.
December Golf
Perfect sunny day on 12/7. Not many people on the course so pace of play was a non-issue. Course was in great shape - Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all fantastic and reflective of a private course. Fairways are pretty generous for the most part with only a couple of narrow holes. Water and some hidden creeks on a few holes and plenty of fairway bunkers to keep it challenging. Only complaint is there is no hole map on tees or scorecard so you can't always tell where hole goes. For example, #10 is an uphill dog-leg left but you can't see the dog-leg from the tee. You can't bomb a driver or you will be well through the fairway. Since we were walking, we paid the price on this hole for our unfamiliarity. Guy in pro shop was super friendly. We will be back!
First time at course
Really enjoyed layout, course in great condition. Staff very courteous. I look forward to playing again soon.
Nice course
Very well kept. Sand traps need better sand. Food was incredible.
fast greens
The greens are fast and true. Quite a few of the par fours are long which made them difficult for the shorter hitters in our group. The course was in great shape with free bottles of water in two places giving it a real country club feel. A nice practice area with free balls. The food and bar make the 19th hole a plus to the round.
Great round with great friends
First time playing at CC of Halifax and I was very impressed overall. The course was in great shape and well maintained. Had the opportunity to meet up with three great friends, one of which I never had the pleasure of playing with prior too. Thanks and hope to do it again soon. I'll play better next time since I know the layout...good excuse.
Be Careful of the Fine Print.
I grabbed this deal on GN with the headline reading 18 Holes /cart. Cart is NOT included. According to the staff, they recently updated the contract with GN and the website has not updated the correct information. It’s $72 total. I was paired with another threesome who ran into the same issue. As did the group behind us.
As for the course, it’s in pretty good shape. Greens we’re fast and true, fairways were cut nicely, rough was appropriately punishing. Long enough for the big hitters and scoring chances for those who keep the ball in front of them.
Pace of play was deathly slow. It’s a semi-private course where the entitled members feel this is Augusta and they should be treated as such. Some of the staff tries to be very accommodating and some make you feel like you’re bothering them.
Overall, the course is definitely worth playing. Once.
Great chance to play private course
Found a tee time on GolfNow for a public slot at a normally private course. Very friendly staff and a great rate ($50) for a Sunday morning tee time in June. For comparison, I paid $69 last week to play a public course on Cape Cod.
Greens were punchy but a friend told me afterwords that Halifax last season had the nicest greens on South Shore, so I’m guessing they were recently aerated.
One note: I forgot cash and the cart girl didn’t take cards (still waiting for courses to gets some Squares and start letting us debit beers and snacks), plus the snack shack at the turn was closed and the clubhouse was not convenient to the 10th tee. Made for a hungry back nine.
Great course
The course was in fantastic condition and can’t beat the price for anything like that on the south shore.
South Shore Gem
Besides the punched greens, course was n fabulous shape, as always for t his early in the season. A must play. Staff always courteous, friendly and helpful
