Always fun
The course was GREAT, I was bad :>)
Always a good time with friends.
Price is a bit more than I would normally pay, but GolfPass benefits keep my rates manageable so I can occasionally play this GEM!
Really good course, but pricy
The course was in really good condition, love the greens. Enjoy everything about this course except the price of food and beverage. It's really pricy. You'll want to eat and get your fluids before you go there.
PACE: I found this weird, but they sent me out as a single as a Saturday morning tee time. Generally on Saturday mornings you can expect to get paired up... but I did not (which is fine). Played behind a 2some and ahead of a 4some which allowed me to hit 2 balls and enjoy my morning.
CONDITIONS: Tee, fairways, greens, and bunkers all in great shape. My only feedback would be to cut back about 10 yards of overgrowth from the tree line. If your ball bounces to the trees there's no chance to find it, or play the "hero shot."
STAFF: Got me paid and out on the course.
VALUE: Other courses I played at this price have balls on the range for you to hit, or provide a warm-up bucket. Also, the GPS in the cart did not work. The course conditions were great, but given the (lack of) amenities I think the rate is a bit high.
LAYOUT: More blind tee shots, tight fairways, and forced carries than I care for. I'm sure this course is someone's "cup of tea," but it's not the kind of golf I prefer.
enjoyable experience
pace of play excellent. twosome no waiting. took 3 hours. Challenging layout. with difficult greens.
Friendly staff.
Hidden gem in Central Lower Michigan
The Medalist never disappoints. The layout is unique, reasonably challenging, while also fair. A couple of holes (notable #4) feel somewhat gimmicky, but overall the course is excellent. When we played (6/19/21), the course was in excellent condition and the greens were quick (which I prefer). The course is narrow in several placed, so control over aim and distance is paramount. To borrow an overused phrase, The Medalist has an Up North feel to it (tree lined, most holes stand apart from the others) and has some trick green complexes. The icing on top was that we played in 4 hours!!
Friendly staff.
Without a doubt this is absolutely the friendliest most customer service driven course I've been on in a few years.. Every employee we encountered was ultra friendly and accommodating. I couldn't have asked for more. I've had worst service at many country clubs I've been to. 5 stars.
Poor experience
Group of 5 playing at extremely slow pace in front of me. Was assured that groups above 4 were not allowed but played behind them. Wouldn’t recommend it.
Spring for
Conditions were pretty good for this early in the year. Staff andd fellow golfers were friendly. Nice track for the money!
Course Conditions (Greens)
Given the greens still have signs of aerating, the ball would not roll. But they were still charging sub~premium money to play. Should be charging less until the course conditions match the money charged.
Thank you for taking the time to rate The Medalist and we are sorry that our conditions didn't meet your expectations. We hope the next time we exceed your expectations and if not please reach out to our owner and we will definitely make it right for you.
Beautiful course, seemed crowded with leagues each time I’ve been. Witnessed inappropriate behavior between female staff and members of the mens league on a Tuesday evening, and heard very vulgar things being said at the clubhouse amongst the same group with the staff. Distracting and unprofessional and overshadowed the great round of golf. It was disappointing and substandard for such a beautiful course. Will give it another shot this year, hoping for a better experience.
NancyUP, Please reach out to our owner Lowell Weaver regarding your experience. We have spoken to our entire staff and the entire men's league and haven't been able to verify any misbehaving. If you can help us figure out the culprits they will not be allowed to return to our league, and the staff will be relieved of their duties. We pride ourselves on our atmosphere and will strive to make sure we keep that atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and safe. Thank you.
Thank you for reviewing our facility and we are glad you enjoyed your time at The Medalist. We hope to see you again soon.
Great course conditions, layout, character, price!!
This year has been a fantastic year golfing going into semi retirement and with 88 rounds since March this Medalists is certainly GOLD. Great layout, conditions, character, challenging, and super greens roll true. Scored $43.59 for 2 on TeeOff, what a bargain! Even $29 medalists websites is a deal for this quality.
Only negatives, don’t like GPS with advertising, and a small crowded pro shop downstairs. Yea between great conditions, swamp carries, and plenty of challenges ( 144 slope from tips!!) this is a must play.
The ownerLowell W was on hands on. My buddy moved to Jackson area so I’m sure we will meet up here. Drove almost 2 hours to get here and was not disappointed.
Good turkey dinner just down road
Thanks Lowell for a great well run course experience with wife and buddy on a nice Saturday 11/6/21!
Thank you very much for your great review. We love it when our customers have a great time. We hope to see you again soon, and after such a great review you have our blessing to take an extra mulligan!
Mr. White
Second time playing the Medalist. Great course condition for frostbite pricing!! $28 can't beat it! Love the challenge.
Plan on losing a few balls.
Thank you for choosing The Medalist to play this time of you and we are glad you enjoyed the course. We agree if you make it around without losing a ball your had a great accomplishment.
Great greens, great layout
A great risk/reward layout. Greens are large, often tiered, and ran true and fairly quick despite drizzly conditions. Mutiple tee boxes enable all skill levels to navigate some daunting carries. Very scenic as mostly generous fairways are cut through wooded and rolling hills.
Have played several times and my appreciation grows with each playing. One of my favorite mid-Michigan courses.
Thank you for the nice review and we are glad you enjoy The Medalist. We hope to exceed your expectations every time you visit us.
