When the pace was good, the game went well
This is the second time I played on the West (red) course. Unlike the first time I played on my birthday a week ago, no dumb players in front of me this time.
I booked the tee time at 1 PM, and when I got to the tee box, there were two players were warming up at 12:57 pm, but they were kind enough to let me go first, since I played by myself.
The game went well when you don’t have to wait for 15 minutes on every hole, so I can play with my own pace, completed 18 holes in 2 hours and 15 minutes. The green was relatively fast but not as fast as the Solheim Cup green for sure. I only had two holes screwed because of putting, with an average 1.9 putts per hole which is considerably good.
The fairway and rough were all maintained well, at least I didn’t lose a ball on the fairway like I did on another local public course, the ball roll to the rough were also retrievable, I found another two without searching more than 3 minutes.
The challenges on the West course are the constant elevation changes and mysterious doglegs, it doesn’t require 300 yds driver shots, because it could cause a lot of troubles in lieu of advantages. I still have issues to find fairways after a dogleg after playing the second time here. It’s not like I can’t hit ball to the fairway, but having trouble to read the course. At least on three holes I didn’t know where the green were located, so I had to take rescue/safety stroke to make sure I can spot the green for my next shot.
Overall, I enjoyed this course especially in a nice day without self absorbed players who can’t even hit the ball straight but wanted to play at blue tee box, and then spent next 10 minutes to find the ball after each shot.
White Tees
I’m a senior, played whites with 19y/o grandson. With this course, today’s tee placement sure made course more challenging for an old guy. Still bunch of fun. Greens still in decent shape in spite of golfers not fixing their divots.
Would not recommend
Booked a tee time after I’d played here a couple times, and they were extremely uncoordinated with league play. Leagues playing part of one course, then moving to another causing congestion. Starter was very disorganized. The thing that turned me off was the staff were totally unhelpful in resolving the issue. I certainly won’t be returning
This facility has never been better
I’ve been playing here from time to time for many years. They have done a great job of turning this into a great place to play.
Fun open course
Played the Blue course today and enjoyed the pace and scenery. Course is in good shape.
Booked during league play !!!
Ok so my round was booked and apparently they had a league booked as well which I’ve never seen especially at peak golfing hours in the morning let alone an 18 hole league with a shotgun start . Was not told of this and apparently they changed the course around so my gripe it’s mostly towards a&$ backwards overbooking and s&@$#y old golfers who think they can talk any way they want want and think they won’t get checked . FAAFO!!!
This course will wear you out!
Nice golf course. Well kept ",,, but!, you will lose balls that you swear were in the fairway! It's like they keep their mower deck higher than most. 🤔 Needless to say, you will have to swing harder
Great Shape!
Three weeks into October and the course is in great shape! Improvements in greens and fairways have paid off. Trimming trees along the fairways is a great addition this year.
Whiteford
I enjoy playing at Whiteford Valley. The course is getting better and better. The staff is super friendly.
People jumping in front of us
Front nine nobody around us we get to the turn and now we have 5 or 6 foursomes right in front of us that decided to start on 10. Again we had to switch to a different 9 or play at a snales pace. This seems to happen every time we are there.
Too many old leaguers
Every time we sign up for a course when we get there we are bounced to one of the other courses.Because these old leaguers take too long to play. This time there was an outing on the one we were supposed to play so they made us change and when we were teeing off they made us change again because they said we cutting in front of somebody. That is where they told us to go. So we had to change to a nine then find a different nine to finish and they always blame Golf Now. It seems as though nobody there knows what they are doing there.
