About
Lake Doster Golf Club in Plainwell is ranked as one of the top 25 golf courses in Michigan. The layout has undulating greens and watered fairways that will test even the most experienced golfers. The course is home to the affectionately nicknamed "Little Monster," its third hole, which boasts a reputation as the toughest par 3 in the state. This infamous hole features a tee that sits high above a treacherous green that is surrounded on three sides by water and even further protected with three sand traps. The hole is also completely isolated thanks to the surrounding mature trees. There is another par 3 on the golf course that is almost as equally tough, the 15th. There is a pond to the right that is seemingly out of play but it's still intimidating enough to push you too far left, risking a landing in the sand trap.

Beautiful course. No food available was the only negative.
Nice Course
I really enjoyed playing the course. It's layout is a great challenge. The greens seemed a little rough some spotting. The back 9 looked like it had just been aerated.
Beat the Rain!
We headed north trying to beat the rain. We played in the middle of the week. The club house was very nice. We were met by the owner/club pro who was very friendly and helpful. The course was in excellent shape. There were holes that required some fun shot making. Enjoyed putting on the greens. They were in great shape! Would enjoy playing again!
green bigger than most courses
greens were being airraded, the fairway were in rough shape. the course is a fun course to play.
waste of time and money
I play all over this golf course wonderland we live in and I feel very justified in saying that this is worst golf course I have ever played. Extremely poor conditions. Yes we had a dry, hot summer but I never saw a course in the shape this was in. All the pin placements were in the middle of the worst areas of the greens and appeared as if they had been there for quite some time. The greens were very good sized with lots of better areas for the pins. Poorly laid out. I have never stood on so many T-Boxes and wondered what they were thinking when they did this. The back 9 is slightly nicer and more playable and actually has a couple nice holes albeit still bad greens with bad pin placements. I waited a couple days to write this thinking maybe it really wasn't all that bad but after playing Heritage Glen the very next day it seemed even worse. Now that is what a golf course should look and play like. Would rate it worse than poor if I could
Enjoyable
always enjoy playing this course
Lake Doster
Course is in fantastic condition right now!
Slow play
The course was nice. The pace of play was way too slow.
Wooded serenity
I liked the course layout and the greens were in pretty good shape. I also liked the fact that its out in the country with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere away from the city's noise. I will be going again.
Great place to golf!
The staff has always been friendly but when a car stopped by us in the parking lot and the driver thanked us for coming and playing on a hot day it was obvious it starts at the top. It is so nice to be told they appreciate our business. I guess that is why we travel to their course to play. We have played there before and will again. The course is in great condition and is an excellant value. Hope to play again soon!
Nice course
I enjoy this course. The proximity to Kalamazoo is convenient. There is an "up north" feel to this course. The many elevated tees as well as the sweeping fairways into larger greens makes this course feel and play like some of the nicer courses in Northern Michigan. I will play this course again soon and would recommend it to anyone.
Busssssyyyy
I've played this course dozens of times, heck, I live within two miles of the course. This course is so slow it took a threesome over 4.5 hours to play 18 with carts on a Monday teeing off at 1100. I've also bought all day all you can play passes, it was so busy I got in 27 in 5.5 hours and had to give up. No matter what they do the members and the players that play there slow things down. It's terrible. If you are going there plan on 2:30 per 9 and drunk people everywhere.
Nice course
The course was in great shape, friendly staff. Will definitely play again!
Fun course
This course has an interesting design. I agree with past reviews that say the course would benefit from some tree removal or trimming. Otherwise the conditioning was prety good.
Don't tell them you used Golf Now.
Used Golf Now and received an excellent rate for golf and cart for 18 holes. Paid online when the reservation was made.
Arrived at the golf course, (Lake Doster, Kalamazoo, mi.) and informed them that we had paid online via Golf Now.com.. They seemed like they could care less, put us off on the back nine, they had an outing on the front. We completed our front nine only to see two foursomes of ladies and a 2 some some outing on the front nine.
They could care less, no "sorry", no nothing.
Nice place...sic.
Course isn't that bad, other players where very friendly. Just expect to be dissed if they know you saved money via Golf Now.
Lake Doster
I have played this course on and off since the early 1980's. Quality dropped a few years ago, but the course has really improved the last couple of year and is in tip top shape again. The greens have always been the highlight. They are large, ungulating and very true.
The last four holes make for a very tough finish. Glad to see the course back to original form.
Mipeik,
Thank you for being a loyal customer to us over the years! We appreciate the feedback and thanks for the 4 star rating!
Lost in the woods
I've played this course off and on for the last 15 years. The course is never in perfectly manicured condition, however the price is always right. The layout is interesting having the feel of an "up North" course . There are elevation changes, woods, wetlands and water hazards.. Over the years the trees have begun to overgrow some of the fairways and make a couple of the holes sort of unfair. The greens have a lot of pitch to them and make putting quite a challenge. The only saving grace is that they are not particularly fast. I always enjoy playing Lake Doster. But just not too often.
Pizarek,
Thank you for playing the course and being a regular customer over the years. We really appreciate the feedback about the trees. Hope to see you back soon!
Good Time
Played on my way to staying at the Yarrow Golf Resort. Weather was difficult with wind and some rain but the course was in good shape and we breezed through the round in about three hours and 15 minutes. I played it once before which helped. I recommend the course.

Thank you for coming and playing through the rain! Thanks for the feedback and 4 star review!
Decent coarse
The layout of the coarse is nice and somewhat challenging but the condition is pretty chopped up! The tee boxes were hard as a brick yet the greens were soaking wet? A lot of in-coarse OB and hazard areas.
Biggeejack,
Thank you for coming and playing at Lake Doster. We set our customer service standards as high as we hold our course conditions standards, and we are sorry if your experience didn't reflect that. We also apologize if your round may have taken a little longer than planned. I hope you will come back and give us another shot. Thank you for the feedback.
