Bruce Hills Golf Club
About
Bruce Hills Golf Course is located in the north metro Detroit area near Romeo. Mature trees are scattered throughout the course, providing shade and a peacefully secluded feel. The par-70 layout is relatively short at only 5,630 yards form the back tees, making it an ideal round for beginners but it still provides good practice and a quick round for more advanced players. The golf course sprawls across a diverse terrain that allows for downhill and uphill approaches to the small, round greens, which are often sloped from back to front. Keeping the ball below the hole is the key to scoring well on this golf course. Bruce Hills' player-friendly layout only has four bunkers but water comes into play on 12 holes, providing the bulk of the course's challenges.

forgettable
We've played here before, course is never in "great" shape. Yardage markers are off if they even have one. Green are small and undulating (some far to much for size of green) then the pin placements on some of them are laughable. The price was right so we gave it another shot, probably not again.
Nice course, tough greens!
Greens are bowls, I don't like that. But it is a nice course. Friendly staff
4th of July 18
Course was a bit soggy in spots but generally in very good condition. Played behind a very slow foursome on the front passed them at the turn after a quick hot dog and drink. played back 9 very quickly with no one in front of us.
First time golfing here. Won't be the last.
I really enjoyed this course. Golfed with a four some. My group all enjoyed the course. Enough challenge to be fun but not enough to be super frustrating. Course was in surprisingly good shape after significant rain the day before. Even better than the course conditions, I was able to book a hot deal on golf now and got a fantastic deal. The staff was great both in the pro shop and club house.
Course is in great shape
The course is in great shape, and the staff seem to appreciate your business. Only drawback was paying the online booking fee when I could have saved that by calling the pro shop myself. The price online was the same as the rate at the course but the online booking fee was extra.
Rainy day at golf course.
Course was well kept but there was standing water all over the place.feet got very wet. Course is pretty easy. You will shoot several scores lower than usual. Lots of rolling hills but fairways are very wide. Fun course but not if you are looking for a challenge.
fun course for the money
There are quite a few water hazards. I would make sure to goggle earth it prior to playing. You have to use the right club on many holes. Still a very fun place to play for the money.
Great Bang for the Buck
Overall, great course for the price. Lots of nice scenery and wildlife. Greens are on the fast side and tend to be challenging. Lots of hills and change in elevation relative to the area. Fairways ranged from narrow to wide with holes ranging from long Par 3's, short and long Par 4's, and some monster Par 5's for the average golfer. All in all, great experience with great pace. This truly is a hidden gem for the price.
Pleasantly Surprised
I was a little unsure about this course after reading the recent reviews; however, I ended up having a nice round (even though I didn't play very well). Everything was great, except the tee boxes could use some work. Very uneven. Also, the course measurements might want to be re checked. Minor complaint: It's kind of a short course so if you drive it from 250-270 you will consistently use your wedge as your second shot. Anyways, for 15 bucks, you can't beat it.
Great staff. Great course
Very nice course. And even better staff will play again. The course is not long but very challenging great course for the price
Overbooked a lot so avoid if you can.
I have been to bruce hills numerous times and it has been getting worse everytime. The pace of play is about 5 to 6 hours for 18 which is ridiculous. I could because of the quality of players coming into a hard playing course but i doubt it. I would give it 5 stars across the board but the thing i hate most about golf is slow play. People who take 5 practice swings just to hit a shot 50 yards. Or those that pull out their 3 wood on a par 5 thinking they can get on in 2 from 250 out.. just pull out your 7 iron and hit a wedge for your 3rd. Besides the slow play the course was in great condition. Greens were solid and the fairways were dry. Only go here if you can get a deal. Don't pay premium price and NEVER go on the weekend unless you enjoy spending your entire day standing around.
Bruce Hills, Tuesday Afternoon
Decent course for the price. If you are wanting a pristine course, this isn't for you. If you are looking for cheap golf, this is the one.
Worst course I've played in last 10 years! Ignorant staff, wouldn't recommend to anyone
This course was an absolute joke, first our tee time was at 2, we didn't get off the tee until about 3:15. Not to mention that we had to play behind a 6-sum all day. Took us 4.5 hrs to finish the first NINE!
The worst part is, before we even took one swing or even moved a cart... We saw them allowing 6
People to play on a busy Sunday. We asked for a refund, as we already waited over an hour past our tee time. The guy behind the desk, dressed almost like a janitor... Proceeded to tell me he wasn't going to give me anything. Id rather spend my time and money at a driving range and putt-putt!
The course conditions were not any better than their service! Would never go back or recommend anyone to play here. Too many other nice courses with pleasant people to greet you in michigan!
The guy behind the desk told us to come back tomorrow to try and get a refund. We drove from
An hour away to play here, worst course choice ever! We are not the only ones, we had two other couples walk out in the same fashion... Not one getting a refund.
AVOID THIS COURSE TO SAY THE LEAST
Fun course
The course is not to difficult but the hole placement did make it very challenging. The course was in good condition considering the time of year which is late Oct.I will play again if I get a chance.
Great Little Course
First time player, went here because of a glitch in Golf Now had a round for seniors with a cart for a buck I have since gone back with a fore some for 15 a piece because it was worth every penny. Nicely laid out with challenging water and sand (real sand, amazing for this type of course) hazards, with a smartly laid out course plan that keeps you interested the hole way. Greens were in excellent shape, with just enough wiggle and wobble to make you work for your shots.
You will need to manage some narrow fairways, and I would have preferred a few more par 5's, but a great course to add to your list of must plays.
Lucky timing
We booked a great deal at Bruce Hills and when we showed up the place was packed. They had just finished an outing so the course would be empty (after waiting 15 minutes for maintence to clean). A very friendly staff made sure we were happy and treated us well even with so many people in the club house! Great course with no road noise.
nice overall choose
I enjoyed this course as well as any I have played this year. . Great value for the buck too!
domed greens
Nice little track, not much room for a big hitter. Once I played the course with placement shots my scores improved. 1 over on the back with a double to finish, oops. Greens roll funny, some missed putts end off in the rough 30 feet from the hole.
Really let downr
I hate to say it but this course is not what it used to be. When I arrived early and saw the golfers in cut off shirts, t shirts, drinking in the parking lot because most of the people blatantly brought there own coolers in front of the staff. No rangers or starters so people did whatever they wanted, I saw a group of six and people driving on greens laughing. I have no idea what happened but I hope it was only that one day and it is not always like that nowadays, the pace of play was so bad it made the round very annoying
Stuck Behind a League
The course was in great shape, however, the pace of play would have made a snail look like the road runner. Our tee time was 5:12, and we were set to go off after the league. With the rain delay, we teed off at 5:30. The back 9 was wide open, and we asked to go off on that, and were told no. However, we witnessed others going off on the back.
Our 9 holes took us over 2 1/2 hours to play (should take less than 2 hours). The last two 4-somes in the league were unbelievably slow. It makes for an aggravating round. To put it in perspective, our 3-some golfed the back 9 in 1 hour and 10 minutes (although we didnt get to putt on 2 greens because the sprinklers came on)
How could the course have helped? Tell the league to keep pace of play. Leagues make money for the golf courses, but, word of mouth from players delayed from extremely poor pace of play loses money.
As the General Manager and Head Golf Professional here, i would like to apologize for your recent bad trip here to Bruce Hills. The Sunday you were talking about was a busy day for the 60 degree day but we did have an Hour and Half Frost Delay in the morning which did back up the tee times for the whole day. With the six some in front you there is no excuse for this continuing on out there. I have dealt with the staff situation personally. I'm sorry again for your recent unsatisfied round. Our course as many others in Michigan with the previous 2 winters that we had, had trouble coming back to life this early in the spring. I do apologize for the rude mother nature spring weather we have had. I also will be reaching out to you personally and giving you a free foursome to come on out and play us again. I sure hope you accept our apology's. Thanks and please enjoy this great game and remember that everyone early in the year also is knocking off all the rust in their golf game.
