Stony Creek Golf Course
About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

VERY slow play, management didn't care!
Left after 13 holes... there were at least 3 foursomes on ONE hole in addition to us waiting! And lots of golfers waiting on several holes ahead of us... but there was NO ONE behind us... geez, how close together are your tee times?? Called management to ask for a refund... they came out to investigate but only offered us a few bucks because we "golfed the majority of our game on the front 9".... um say WHAT? That makes NO sense at all! No apology was given either... Sorry Stony Creek, I love your golf course, but the rude treatment by your management staff has caused you to lose a few customers. :(
GREAT SHAPE
The fairways and green where in great conditions. A few tee boxes was in need of some work, but still early in the season. A must play.
Greg golf course
Great deal even with a $10 entrance fee to the Metropark
Thank You for playing Stony Creek we hope to see you again this year.
Stay off this course
Great round on the first warm day. Course is in decent shape for the time of year. Beautiful setting. I you stay away it's all for me.
Thanks for posting a review, we hope to see again this year at Stony Creek.
Need better maps
I'm not one to get lost. If you have not been to Stony Creek, know that you can only get to the course by the main park entry way. Google maps was misleading.
The course was really nice and the people were helpful. :)
Nice challenge
The Golfnow price was not a bargain. By the time you pay the golfnow fee and the park entry fee it is more expensive than the senior rate. If you pay the senior rate you get $5 back on the entry fee. It was $45 for golfnow and $35 for senior rate. The course is in nice condition and the pace of play was not bad. Unfortunately I palyed as a two some and followed 4 women so we waited on every shot.
Too Expensive
This course is one of the more expensive in the area even with Golfnow rates. You have to pay Metro Park entry fee ($7) to get to the course. They usually give a partial refund of entry fee but not if you book with golf now. Course was in good shape, I didnt eat or use clubhouse other than checking in. First two holes were clear, then we ran into foursomes, slamming the breaks on pace of play.
Overbooked.
I used to love stoney creek golf course but now it has become jam packed every time i go. There were 4 groups of 4 waiting to tee off when we pulled up. Idk if it was senior day or what but it was all old people there so of course it takes them twice as many shots to reach the green. I don't mind if the old people want to play but 6 hours for 18 has to be more brutal on them than it is on me. They should extend their tee time gaps to 12 minutes instead of 6 or 8. I would have rated this all 5 stars if they made sure pace of play was kept.
Long
Course is 6500 yards off white. I little long for me. Seniors would be about 5500. Seemed fair for Women.
Very slow round
I was disappointed in the pace of play of the round. For a majority of the front nine, there were 3 groups on the tee box at every hole. Very frustrating and difficult to get any sort of rhythm.I understand it was a Saturday and pace of play may be a little worse, but this was horrible. The back nine was better, but I attribute that to golfers that dropped off after 9 holes because it was taking too long. I did notice a lot of twosomes not being grouped up, including my group. Never saw a ranger out on the course all day. Otherwise, the course was a little long for my tastes, but not bad. If they would fix the pace of play to a more reasonable amount of time, I would consider coming back.
Need to pair players up
The course is very nice and very friendly. Perhaps a little bit too friendly. We were the sixth twosome in a row that they sent out and they put a single out behind us! We did have the single join us after the first hole since there was no sense in everyone waiting. The craziest part was I overheard a guy come into the pro shop just before we went out who wanted to know if how long before a twosome could get out and the cashier told him it would be 2 hours!
Greens
Some of the greens are in bad shape and need repair. Golf carts are in bad shape
Very Nice
I've played there several times over the years. The course is in really nice shape: greens are rolling true & quick, bunkers have plenty of sand -no complaints. Although not listed as a Hot Deal, we got a great discount through GolfNow, plus they, somewhat reluctantly, gave us $5 off by turning in our daily park pass ($7 at the gate). So we played 18 on a Sunday, in 3-1/2 hours, on a beautiful course for under $30. Not bad in my book.
Disclaimer: I have encountered ornery staff on multiple occasions in the past, but hopefully they didn't come back for 2015!
Worthy Layout
This is a great tradition layout the provides all the length you can handle. It's very scenic and interesting.
The winter was pretty tough on some of the fairways and the greens are running pretty slow but it's only the first week of May.
It would be nice if patrons would fix ball marks and rake their bunkers.
Beautiful Saturday
One of our favorites. Nice layout, quick greens in great condition
Good for long hitters
Long course with some challenges. If you can hit a mile it makes it fun.
slow
Staff doesn't care of slow play.
more than 6 hours

Played Stoney many time through the years, good test of golf.
Really nice course in Northtern Burbs
A challenging, pretty course in very good condition, you will definitely enjoy your round here. They need to use marshals more liberally to nudge the slow groups, glad I went during the week.
Thank you for choosing Stony Creek Metropark, we hope to see you again this year.
