Stony Creek Golf Course
About
Stony Creek is part of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system and many locals consider it to be one of its gems. There aren't any residences near the golf course, giving it a secluded feel and providing unhindered views from the elevated tees. The course opened in 1976 but underwent a major renovation that included re-sculpting the bunkers and reconditioning the entire golf course. The layout features several doglegs and a surprising amount of elevation changes. The fairways are tightly lined with trees and bunkers are strategically placed along the greensides and landing zones. There are also lakes and ponds that come into play on six holes on the front nine and three on the back. Stony Creek's par-3 17th is the most memorable water hole and the 14th is also notable for its tiny "postage stamp" green.

Bring an extra $10 for parking
If you don't have a yearly pass to the park, you'll pay $10 per car. Not Refundable for GolfNow rounds. I love this course, but won't be booking it through GolfNow again.
Stoney
Nice course. Fast greens. Rough spots along cart paths. Must have been some construction. Can play tough.
UP NORTH FEEL, WILD LIFE ALL AROUND, TREAT TO PLAY
Slow play!
Used to be a nice public course to enjoy. We played a round in weekday morning and waited on every shoot. It took us just over 5 hours to finish our play. Need rangers to keep the play in a reasonable time frame.
Stoney Creek Golf
Pace of play really killed everything. Paired my guest and me with two other golfers, but had a twosome in front of us and a drunk and slow foursome in front of them. The course conditions did not warrant a $36 price tag at all. Took almost 5 and a half hours to complete 18 holes which is insane! Staff was okay, kinda of rude.
The golf course was in great shape for an early spring round. Had an 1 1/2 " of rain the day before so there were some wet spots but was very playable. New cartpaths so there is still about 5' of dirt on both sides of the path, but the paths will be a great upgrade once the grass grows. Really enjoyed the course layout, challenging but very fun and playable. Greens were in great shape . The only drawback for me were some of the tee boxes were a little too torn up and uneven in spots. Overall a great time with my dad and at 14 dollars a round was an unbelievable value.
Circumstantial Review
Hard to complain about playing golf in mid November, and believe me, I'm not! The course just finished upgrading the entire course cart path layout, so as you can imagine, there is some leftover dirt from the project that influenced play, this should not affect play next spring/summer as it grows out. A small problem was with the fact that all of the yardage markers have been put away for the season, so it was a little guessing game. Overall, an awesome, very playable course, highly recommended!
fun round
my son and i got paired up with another two some that also used golf now and had a fun round on a great course.
Course has potential, currently under construction and needs updating...
Today course is not in very good shape, lots of work being done throughout the course and it is all torn up. The layout through the trees gives the course the potential to be a great course to play if they can finish the work they are doing. The clubhouse is outdated, needed to improve and made more comfortable atmosphere so players can sit and enjoy a snack or lunch after a round.
They need to update equipment, pull carts are from the 1950's, most golf courses offer the newer version pushcarts for those that want to walk like golf should be played if you are capable. This should be a safety concern as I believe pushing is healthier than pulling, which is why most courses have already converted. I believe you should be told before you book that the course is under construction so you can decide ahead of time and not be surprised when you get there or offer discounts for future play so you can enjoy better conditions of play next time.
ADVISORY!!!!!
Entire cart path under construction & charging
full price !!!!
Advisory ....please put advisory due to cart paths
Advisory alert will be very helpful to people making a decision on where to play . Most of the course is having the cart paths redone . Should've been advised weeks ago. Would've been much appreciated
Upgrades on way
We played here in the mid-afternoon. Haven't been to Stoney Creek Golf Course in years. Got on the course on time. They are in the midst of reconstruction of the carts paths so it could be a challenge trying to not drive on them. It will look very good upon completion. I prefer the back 9. It just seems more cozy and up north like. Greens for this time of year were typical.
Good test of golf.
Played Stoney Creek for the first time in many years. Overall the course is in good shape. The greens were a bit rough which I partially blame on poor player etiquette (not fixing ball marks, dragging spikes) and partially because many are surrounded by trees which drop debris. The layout is challenging. Many holes are either tree lined and /or have marsh /water hazards. The back nine cart paths are all under repair at the moment. Be prepared to pay the ten dollar metropark daily fee if your not a yearly member. It's a course worth playing.
Challenging course
The course has a good layout and was in great shape. The white tees were a bit too challenging (6500 yds) for my game but the next tee box was a little short (5500 yds) so I opted for the whites. Still managed a good score. Fun course.
Enjoyable Challenge
I used to play here twice a month for 10 years back in the late 90's early 2000's. It is just as nice now as it was then. The only difference is now there are a lot of areas protected with tall prickley plantings. Keep your ball away from them and you'll be okay.
VERY slow play, management didn't care!
Left after 13 holes... there were at least 3 foursomes on ONE hole in addition to us waiting! And lots of golfers waiting on several holes ahead of us... but there was NO ONE behind us... geez, how close together are your tee times?? Called management to ask for a refund... they came out to investigate but only offered us a few bucks because we "golfed the majority of our game on the front 9".... um say WHAT? That makes NO sense at all! No apology was given either... Sorry Stony Creek, I love your golf course, but the rude treatment by your management staff has caused you to lose a few customers. :(
