South/West at Tanglewood - The Lion
About
Tanglewood in South Lyon is home to 27 holes of championship golf that are collectively known as "The Lion." The holes are dived into three nines: the North, South, and West; that are played in three different combinations. The golf courses sprawl across a gently rolling landscape, which doesn't offer dramatic elevation changes but it is undulating enough to make finding a flat lie no easy feat. The South/West Course is tight, offering little room for error. There are creeks and ponds that come into play several times throughout and there are also out-of-bounds in play on most of the tee shots. The sixth hole on the West nine is called the "Michigan Hole," since the green is shaped like the lower-peninsula of Michigan, accented by a geographically correct replica of the Mackinac Bridge. The South/West combination is the club's most popular.

great all around course at a great value
Nice tree lined fairways on many holes with some houses.
Top public course
I play this course regularly. Top level public cousre. Fair, ok distance, and good combination of shot making vs power. Today the greens were in absolutely pristine condition. Best I've seen from any public course.
The greens were very challenging and the hazards cleverly placed. A bit more focus on making the sand more fluffy in the bunkers would be beneficial.
The staff was friendly, the beverage cart girls were very nice (and cute too), the bartender was enthusiastic and customer oriented. I arrived at the course early. It was much appreciated that the starter matched me with another group so I could tee-off sooner.
Others Day Golf
Was way to cold to play in high 30's /low 40's with sleet towards the end. The course was in great shape though I judge that the rough was deeper than I remembered last time I played Tanglewood.
Its a nice 27 hole layout... very friendly
Played in 4 hours on a Sunday. I played SOUTH and WEST. Well maintained. I like a lot more elevation change in a course though. You can run up most shots and the greens were in good shape. Wouldnt drive from Lansing to South Lyon to play there again, but if I was in the area I would definately be back.
27 beautiful holes that have a northern feel.
Driving range is nice
Putting green is nice
Chipping green is nice
And even a nice practice sand trap!
Once you hit the course you realize you are playing a nice course and you can just sit back and enjoy the round!
Play was quite slow, we waited on almost every hole.
We play ready golf, even though we were a twosome, it shouldn't have been backed up so that we were waiting every hole, sometimes for two groups. There was one group about 4 groups ahead, that was really slowing play down, but we didn't see any rangers out of the course.
Not going to get a much better course for the money
In summary, I REALLY like this course. It can be a bit short from the white tees but it is tight and will make you pay for a bad shot. Course was in great shape and the rough is thick. I'll definitely be back.
great course
had great round little cold the day we want out, the par 3's are fun and over water
Very nice parkland course. 3 nines offer lots of variety.
3 challenging nines with lots of doglegs and some water. Very enjoyable round with a 4 hr. pace.
Wonderful track...challenges your thought process with plenty of options for shots
One of the best bargins in Metro Detroit with immaculate greens and a beautiful club house.
Hidden Gem
Course plays fair, but challenging. Well maintained, beautiful.
Easy to play
Wide fairway.
rare case for lost ball
27 holes
driving range
Each fairway is good condition.
I like this course fairway due to good maintenance.
GREAT TRACK
We played an 18 hole round for only $15 on Golf Now!
GREAT DEAL!!!
Good course
First, you should allow a sliding scale rather than middle or one extreme or the other...having said that, I used GolfNow.com and got a great rate on greens fees at the last minute which was a great value. I played on a week day, by myself in October so pace of play for me was excellent. I did play through a number of foursomes who all seemed to be very slow. Course was in very good condition for this late in the season. I have played this course many times and always find the staff a bit stand-off-ish.
