Great value
The website does not do whispering pines any justice. This course was in great shape even considering the insane amounts of rain this year. Everything was green and healthy. Greens were in great shape, not lightning fast but fast enough to run a few downhill putts by pretty good. I was very pleased with the layout, tough course for the short yardage. Very undulated and challenging. Over all it was a great experience and most definitely will return. 4/5 stars.
Very good value and greens
Played 18 holes on Independence Day. Pace good, 3 hrs., 45 min. Greens were in great shape, Tee boxes could use some help. Fun course with easier holes on front nine and some challenge and length on the back nine. Starts out with some fun par fours, with the 3rd and 8th holes being quite challenging. The back nine opens with three straight par fours, eleven and twelve are both 400 yards and difficult. Finishes with three par fives mixed with three par threes, the last hole a quite challenging and difficult 215 yards from the blue tees. If you stay away from trouble (mostly trees and small water hazards), you can score well here. My good friend and I play at least one round together each week, and we sometimes travel well outside the Twin Cities metro area to find bargain courses. Whispering Pines certainly fits in nicely, well worth the trip from Saint Paul. Have played this course in the past and conditions were not as good as this time. The staff is very friendly, the only complaint we had was there was no beverage cart and not much variety of food and beverage available in the clubhouse. We believe Whispering Pines is a good NW Metro destination for great golf and friendly, courteous staff. We will return to play again this season.
Beautiful course.
Whispering pines is a fantastic golf course!! The course is well maintained. The last 2 times I played there we had to yell "fore" to the deer on the course. For the money, it is absolutely my favorite place to play. The only drawback may be the clubhouse. It is pretty small. I've played bad courses with fantastic clubhouses and this is a fantastic course with a garage sized clubhouse. You can get a good beverage and a roller dog to eat. The staff is very friendly as well. If you come to play golf then great. If you come to hangout in the clubhouse, maybe not the place for you.
Conditions
For as much rain as we have had the course we in very good condition.
This course is a fun challenge
This is a hilly course for my experience (which is little) but fun non the less. The only reason the course condition got 4 stars is because we ran into three mowers and it was a little flooded due to rain. Otherwise I think this course is well maintained they try to keep carts in certain areas so not to rip up possibly wet or "weak" grass areas. Overall it was fun and I will return when I have a little more experience.
Upgrades are a real plus
Course has new management and it really shows. Tee boxes are now taken care of and have level grassy surfaces. Most have flowers/shrub to add definition. Fairways are mowed and green.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
I'll be back again. Great value for your money.
Worth the trip
I played Whispering Pines with a friend on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Due to the weather, we were two of just a handful of players on the course. Like all the courses in Minnesota, it has been saturated by our rainy spring, but actually was in really good shape overall. After having a five minute conversation with the owner before we teed off, I could tell he really cared about the course and was eager to get feedback on what we liked and didn't like. I thought there were some really challenging holes with narrow tree-lined fairways and some holes opened up to accommodate my nasty slice. My advice would be take the drive and give it a shot.
There's more to this track than meets the eye.
Whispering Pines is named accurately, try aggressive play and the trees subtly coax your ball into trouble. This is a shot-maker's course that dares you to break concentration. A missed fairway usually demanded a shaped approach to some very intimidating greens. The greens had been recently verti-cut & top-dressed but rolled very true. The beautiful weather, hidden gem of a course and friendly manager/owner made a great day of golf, indeed.
Whispering Pines
A cute course with twists and turns that are creative.
A Hidden Gem in the West Metro
Played Whispering Pines for the third time since last summer. The course has some of the best greens in the Greater Twin Cities west metro area. It is truly a 'hidden gem' of a golf course. Excellent greens, well-maintained fairways and a test for your golfing abilities. You have to think about your shots and then execute to get a low score. A great course to spend an afternoon of golf with friends. Very friendly staff how make you feel welcome and appreciate the opportunity to make your round fun.
This course is better than you would anticipate.
I was very pleased with how they managed the leaves that had fallen on the course. There are trees throughout the course and for the two rounds I played the past week the only golf ball I lost was one I put into a pond. I had expected to lose a number of them because of leaves. That was part of the reason I went a second time.
what a great little track! Lots of fun.
This is a lovely course with lots of diversion - woods, marsh, hills, and interesting holes throughout. Really a fun track to play. Greens were a bit bumpy after aeration, but all in all a very nice golf course.
Fun course in great shape!
Challenging course with a lot of mature trees. Much work has been put into the course the last few years and it shows. Two thumbs up
not worth the drive
I had not played here in several years, I was told the greens had improved so I went back to check it out, the greens still need work
Great improvements from 5-6 years ago!!
Great variety of holes. Doglegs, Wide open links style, Big huge trees lining the fairways, precision aiming par 3's. Greens in very good shape.
Thanks for the improvements!!!
Fun for price
Maintained pretty well, relaxed environment, fun course for beginners. Staff could have been friendlier. Didn't seem to like that we got a deal online.
Good golf, Great Prices
Historically this course has been the minimum maintenance/minimum green fee course for my area. There is new owners though, and they are tackling some projects that I like. It appears they are cleaning up and redoing a lot of the flowerbeds/landscaping so it looks pretty good where it used to be shabby. The biggest thing though was that the greens are in super good shape. They used to be pretty patchy but now they're trimmed short, and roll real nice. And they're green!! Generally looks like they got the sprinklers turned on and are giving a regular dose of fertilizer.
My favorite thing about this course though is the layout. Its fairly tight with large mature trees, tons of water hazards and swamps, tall fescue etc etc. A lot of fun for the guy who enjoys working the ball, side to side low high in order to stay in the fairway.
Nice surprise in the countryside!
Whispering Pines demands accuracy on tight wooded fairways on a shorter, more challenging front nine that opens up a bit more on the back nine. The greens were generally smaller in size and in very good condition, receptive to shots while maintaining good putting speed. The previous reviews on cart paths being in somewhat tough shape and difficult to navigate are somewhat accurate but that doesn't impact playability, and directions to hole locations are now clearly marked. Definitely a course I would refer to a friend and play again.
Always a good time.
It is definitely getting better then a few years ago. Fairways are great, greens are fast and challenging. T boxes could use a daily cleaning of debris. A better container for broken tees maybe.
Beautiful rural layout with great greeens & great value.
I've been playing this course for 20+ years and it is still my favorite course in the Wright County area. Greens are well maintained, and there is enough challenging holes for any golfer. Rates are low and this is the best value course in the area. Give Whispering Pines a try!
