Golfer Reviews
Good course
This was a good course in very good condition. The only negative is there are a few holes you need to look for the signs to the next tee box.
Great Greens and Fairways
This course used to have a reputation as a dog track with a bunch of hackers tearing it up. It is not that way anymore! The new owner has cleaned up the clientele and everything else that made this course one to pass on. New clubhouse, great greens and fairways. The beverage cart was seen at least 6 times on 18 holes which was great since it was hot the day i played. Don't let the yardage fool you. Long par 4's and some tough par 3's make it a challenge.
Thank you very much for the great review! We've put in so much work to get the fairways into the best shape they've been in for the last 15 years, and really appreciate such great feedback. We want to know how we can get that perfect 5 star rating from you! We hope to see you again soon.
Great landscape
The par 3's are quite challenging, even got a triple bogey on 1 of them. Very nice greens and fairways, rough was thick. Like the layout, nice rolling hills and some layered tee boxes.
Thanks for taking the time to review our course, we put in so much work to keep it looking great. Some of those 3's can be tricky! We hope to see you again in 2016.
This course has great features
This course is one of my favorites ... I've played 7 rounds there this year.. It's got some challenging holes out there .. But the greens are in great condition ..... Can't beat the price with the golf now app... If u haven't tried this course yet it's a must ...
We're glad to hear you're a frequent player, we work hard to keep the greens looking great. We'd like to know how we can get that perfect 5 star rating from you!! Thanks for the awesome feedback, we'll see you again soon!
Hard course
Some of the hardest par 3 I have ever played. Pin placement and trees. Overall a decent course.
Justin,
We like to hear a little more feedback from our golfers when we receive a lower than normal rating. Could you please tell me when you golfed at Whispering Pines to make it a better experience for everyone as I dont show that you golfed at the course on that day?
Justin,
Can you please tell me what time you played on Tuesday at WP. When we receive a rating lower than our 4.1 average I would like to find out what we could do better to make your experience a better one.
Regards,
Mark
challenging course,
Hilly and wooded ,fast tough greens. Beautiful course .We had a great time and will play there again.
We really appreciate your great review!! Looking forward to seeing you again in the coming season.
Cant believe it was busier
Played Whispering Pines for the first time. The course has some of the best greens in the Greater Twin Cities area. It is truly a 'hidden gem' of a golf course. Excellent greens, well-maintained fairways and a test for your golfing abilities. You have to think about your shots and then execute to get a low score. A great course to spend an afternoon of golf with friends. Very friendly staff how make you feel welcome and appreciate the opportunity to make your round fun. There is not much of a clubhouse, but I am not there for that, I was there to golf.
Thanks so much for the review, coreymeyers. We work really hard to keep the course looking great to hopefully get feedback like yours. We are REALLY looking forward to the coming season, hope to see you again!
Decent course, sub par admin
We booked at hot deal with Golfnow and played for a really good price.
Our Tee time was right after a tournament which we were not told when we arrived early. The gal at the front counter, after realizing we paid on line with Golfnow, made it very clear, and not very nicely I might add, that we would have to wait for our tee time. There were no keys to give us to get our cart either. We waited until 10 minutes after our tee time to get our cart so we could headout. The twosome who booked with us waited an additional 10 minutes after us. All of this would have been fine if we would have been notified when we got ther e that it was a bit bakced up and this is the deal....that didn't happen so we got a sour taste in our mouth right away.
The course was actually in pretty good shape overall. Not my favorite stye of course but OK.
Hello Nancy,
We apologize for the delay in that tee time -- it's sometimes harder to communicate the wait with Golfnow bookings. Whispering Pines holds it's staff to the highest standard in customer service and were surprised to hear you received less than; your review has been discussed through our staff.
We work really hard to keep our course looking great and to deliver an excellent experience for our golfers, and we hope you would give us another chance in the coming season. Thank you for the feedback.
good course
Course was a little beat up. Lots of brown grass. If I didnt have a coupon I would have been mad paying over $40 to play there.
Thanks for the feedback. We wanted to let you know that we've put so much work into the course in the last year -- massive tree removal, and have the fairways looking the best they have in the last 15 years. We hope you'll give us another go in 2016!
Beautiful trees, open fairways
Beautiful course with a lot of old growth trees, yet open fairways. Rolling hills, loved the feeling of being in the country
Thanks for the great review, we love our course too. Hope to see you again in 2016!
The course offers challenges for everyone
Arrived as a single and paired up with another single. Proved good company and since I hadn't played the course he offered tips and hole features. The course is narrow fairwayed and precision can be a premium as rough is thick. The back nine will challenge even the long hitters as some long par 4's. The greens are true and fast and many offer lots of undulation. Tee to green the course is in fabulous shape and definately worth the drive to play it at least 1 time. If this course was in metro would be highly sought after because of course conditions.
Brian, thanks so much for the awesome feedback. We put so much work into the course so our golfers will leave with a great experience like yours. Come play us again in 2016!
Great value
The website does not do whispering pines any justice. This course was in great shape even considering the insane amounts of rain this year. Everything was green and healthy. Greens were in great shape, not lightning fast but fast enough to run a few downhill putts by pretty good. I was very pleased with the layout, tough course for the short yardage. Very undulated and challenging. Over all it was a great experience and most definitely will return. 4/5 stars.
Very good value and greens
Played 18 holes on Independence Day. Pace good, 3 hrs., 45 min. Greens were in great shape, Tee boxes could use some help. Fun course with easier holes on front nine and some challenge and length on the back nine. Starts out with some fun par fours, with the 3rd and 8th holes being quite challenging. The back nine opens with three straight par fours, eleven and twelve are both 400 yards and difficult. Finishes with three par fives mixed with three par threes, the last hole a quite challenging and difficult 215 yards from the blue tees. If you stay away from trouble (mostly trees and small water hazards), you can score well here. My good friend and I play at least one round together each week, and we sometimes travel well outside the Twin Cities metro area to find bargain courses. Whispering Pines certainly fits in nicely, well worth the trip from Saint Paul. Have played this course in the past and conditions were not as good as this time. The staff is very friendly, the only complaint we had was there was no beverage cart and not much variety of food and beverage available in the clubhouse. We believe Whispering Pines is a good NW Metro destination for great golf and friendly, courteous staff. We will return to play again this season.
Beautiful course.
Whispering pines is a fantastic golf course!! The course is well maintained. The last 2 times I played there we had to yell "fore" to the deer on the course. For the money, it is absolutely my favorite place to play. The only drawback may be the clubhouse. It is pretty small. I've played bad courses with fantastic clubhouses and this is a fantastic course with a garage sized clubhouse. You can get a good beverage and a roller dog to eat. The staff is very friendly as well. If you come to play golf then great. If you come to hangout in the clubhouse, maybe not the place for you.
Conditions
For as much rain as we have had the course we in very good condition.
This course is a fun challenge
This is a hilly course for my experience (which is little) but fun non the less. The only reason the course condition got 4 stars is because we ran into three mowers and it was a little flooded due to rain. Otherwise I think this course is well maintained they try to keep carts in certain areas so not to rip up possibly wet or "weak" grass areas. Overall it was fun and I will return when I have a little more experience.
Upgrades are a real plus
Course has new management and it really shows. Tee boxes are now taken care of and have level grassy surfaces. Most have flowers/shrub to add definition. Fairways are mowed and green.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
I'll be back again. Great value for your money.
Worth the trip
I played Whispering Pines with a friend on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Due to the weather, we were two of just a handful of players on the course. Like all the courses in Minnesota, it has been saturated by our rainy spring, but actually was in really good shape overall. After having a five minute conversation with the owner before we teed off, I could tell he really cared about the course and was eager to get feedback on what we liked and didn't like. I thought there were some really challenging holes with narrow tree-lined fairways and some holes opened up to accommodate my nasty slice. My advice would be take the drive and give it a shot.
There's more to this track than meets the eye.
Whispering Pines is named accurately, try aggressive play and the trees subtly coax your ball into trouble. This is a shot-maker's course that dares you to break concentration. A missed fairway usually demanded a shaped approach to some very intimidating greens. The greens had been recently verti-cut & top-dressed but rolled very true. The beautiful weather, hidden gem of a course and friendly manager/owner made a great day of golf, indeed.
Thanks for the nice review, we definitely work hard to keep great course conditions. Hope to see you again soon.
