I do not like the greens at all!! They are small and most of them are elevated, (built up on their own little hill).
I do not like the greens at all!! They are small and most of them are elevated, (built up on their own little hill). If you hit the ball 1 yard short of the green, it could roll 20 yards backwards!!
A good day of golf ...
Avoid trouble to score well. Some hazards are easy to get into. Shots to green must be accurate and high or with spin on the ball to hold. Greens putt true and somewhat fast.
Deceptively tough
Elevated very fast greens and some hard ground due to dry conditions had me shooting about ten strokes higher than normal. Short holes with very challenging greens. $24 hot deal for 18 w cart was totally worth it. Woman in clubhouse was very friendly. It's a 40 minute drive for me, but I'd certainly come back. :)
Beautiful large old growth trees, wide fairways, some challenging doglegs.
This course has large beautiful trees and quite wide fairways.
Due to dry weather, some fairways were brown and the rough was very dry.
The fairways were rough to ride on - could be smoothed out
It has some interesting challenges and unique doglegs that
practically go in a circle.
Overrated!
Majority of greens elevated, very small, and FAST which made for a challenge but severly lacked variety and was not tailored to the average golfer. Course was exteremly dry with many bare spots throughout the fairway and around the greens. I managed to get a $20 round w/ cart but wouldn't pay anymore than that to play this course again. Regular rates are priced too high for this quality of a course.
Beautiful course, great value for the money.
The course was beautiful, The fairways and greens were in great shape. The pace of play was good, didn't have to wait until the back nine, and it wasn't that bad. Well worth the trip from the Twin Cities.
Gnats, narrow rock hard fairways, small greens
Thought it would be worth trying it 20$ so made the 45 mn drive from MPLs
704 am tee time
No staff their until 650am
A lot of stuff seemed run down
If someone paid full price for 18 holes then that's a shame
Rough
This course is on of the most poorly maintained courses I have played this year. I was disappointed and I probably will never go there again no matter how good the deal is
good golf course
good course design, good maintenance, nice people and good price. Elk River is a good place to get in a round of golf
Even though the course was well maintained, and landscaping was exceptional(details around t-boxes); the fairways were very uneven, and small greens.
Very small greens, and hard. Very difficult to land and have the ball stick. From this aspect, the course was challenging. The fairways and t-boxes were well mowed and nice to hit from, however they were very bumpy. One had to drive slow on a cart to avoid bouncing off the cart. Narrow fairways, but adequate. Probably would not golf here again unless another super deal through golf now. Pace of play was very good. Frequent visits on a Friday from the cart ladies.
Course is ideally suited to casual golfers.
ERCC is a nice blend of small greens, generous fairways and enjoyable scenery which is a good fit for the casual golfer. Play was swift even by those walking. Overall it's a great place for a family golf outing or prepping young aspiring players.
Greens are rock hard
It was hard to enjoy the round when the greens are so hard. Approach shots wouldn't check and bounced off the greens. You would have to lay up for a chip to get up and down to make par. Holes were pretty straight and there weren't too many hazards so the course was fairly easy if the greens weren't so hard.
A mature course in fairly good condition with a quick pace of play.
Our two-some played in under 3.5 hours with a 7:30 am tee time. The greens were in good shape but some fairways were a little rough in places. It is a mature course with a variety of holes. Not many sand traps and of average difficulty. Overall with the hot deal rate it was a great value.
Good shape - Nice fast greens
Have played out here since 1970's - course is in really good shape - greens as always are small, crowned and challenging and fast. Nice variety of holes (short and long).
poor conditions
although the course may not approve, I'm sure they look the other way when the old timers make back to back tee times for a two-some and a three-some and then meet up at the second hole and pair up for a five-some. real nice when you're behind these groups. the course condition considering a cool spring, plenty of rain and warm nights was dismal. 50 yards of fairways completely dead. too many patches of white paint surrounding ground under repair to count. I have to go back to the chiropractor to fix the back displaced by the washboards leading up to the fairways (and sometimes on the fairways).
no water on the course and no beverage cart on one of the hottest days of the year. probably won't return
very solid golf course
Elk River Golf Club is a solid course. Located right off highway 10 makes it very simple to get to. There is ample room to warm up with a large practice green and driving range. The course itself was very interesting. The layout is great however there were endless areas of dead grass and water/mud collections. Almost all of these areas were marked off though and were definitely receiving attention. The greens were speedy (just how I like them) and the rough was at a perfect height. Opportunities to score are available on several holes but it's no cake-walk. If your a straight driver with solid short game you will definitely enjoy this golf course.
good course for the money, friendly staff.
course in good shape, crowned greens make it tough for my game. Have to hit a higher approach shot to stick and have a better short game. Some par fours are not real long but you still have to hit it straight. Nice track. forty five minute drive from minneapolis.
Soggy Morning but Playable
The course was really wet from the 3" rain the night before but it was playable and going out early made the pace of play very quick. The course was in good shape and the staff is always really good to deal with. The only problem we encountered was at the turn we went in to get a donut and something to drink and there wasn't anyone in the restaurant area to help us so we just played the rest of the round and went on our way.
Crown Greens and Scenic
This course and facility is run down. I'm not sure why members tolerate. The fairways have weeds with dead patches. Some of the greens require maintenance as well.
You can have a good approach shot roll off most of their crowned greens.
"Approach shots wouldn't check and bounced off the greens. You would have to lay up for a chip to get up and down to make par." You can't expect all your shots to check because you want them to. That's not how golf is... you obviously haven't played golf in varying parts of the world. You adjust and play the golf course as it presents itself. That's what good golfers do...
