Another Great Value
Overall the course is moderately challenging, mostly flat, with fairways that are close together. Although the course was in rough shape, I played fairly early in the season and on a day that followed 3 days of rain. Fairways and rough areas were fairly wet, however the greens were dry and fast. I would return for the value and location.
Just Average
One can tell the layout of the course was good but it came through winter in rough shape. When we got to the course the person manning the golf shop was not friendly just threw us our cart keys and told us we were on the tee. In the middle of the summer, I would recommend this course because the layout is good.
Course is maintained well
Was windy when we played, so it made some of the holes more challenging. Some blind approach shots. Would play a little different after playing the course and knowing where to hit.
Wind always blows, blind tee shots, good layout.
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Tends to stack tee times sometimes. Tee shot from elevated tips on hole 15 must be played.
Good hacking practice course
In genera, the course has a wide open design. One can enjoy hitting long. The course's biggest issue is that there are many blind shots, which take away excitement. (Meadowbrook like?) This is a windy course, always, so when the wind goes against, this course seems a lot longer than the yardage shows. The worst hole may be the hole no. 18, par 4, of which design needs major changes - two hidden ponds guarding the fairway at 250 to 280 yards out and then you may need a fairway wood to hit to the green. For a short hitter, this hole is a guaranteed 5 or more. Not fun. These being said, this has a good value if a hot deal is offered, and I encourage interested golfers to try this course. People are friendly there, and this could offer you very good practice rounds. If you pay for a regular price, you may question if this course is worth it. This depends upon your skills and preferences.
Course is in rough shape
Played 18 holes today -- course is still relatively wet, greens are still brown and the bunkers are unplayable. Might be worth a shot later in the season but for right now save your money. Many of the holes have either a blind 1st or 2nd shot -- fun for a couple of holes but if you aren't familar with the course it can be a struggle.
Just Terrible
This course is no good, don't waste your time or money. The first time I played they had to give our foursome free passes. I went back and had the worst experience ever at this course. Slow play and disorderly staff, who were playing the course causing the slow play. Hands down the worst course in MN.
mostly average. bad 3 finishing holes
as name would imply, mostly linksy. trees on some holes but not what i would call wooded. This course has some unique holes,. a couple border on gimmicky. biggest problem is last 3 holes are laid out badly. 16 has not 1 but 2 chances to hit blindly into hazard even if slightly off line as terrain slopes to them. 18 is blind off tee with water on both sides forcing safe shots to leave 190-200 yds to elevated green. i would only play this if a really great price.
This course has improved over several years
I rated a great value because this course is big into marketing on several sites including Golf Now, email sign up and others. They run specials often and when you can get their specials it's a great deal. I do not think the course is worth their regular green fee's. I have played this course several times and only once did I encounter slow play, usually everyone keeps up and on this day I played in 3.5 hours, NICE! Maintance should keep ball washers filled with water, and carts can be dirty. The fairways and greens have improved over the years. On this day things were very dry, but it has been dry weather throughtout the Twin Cities. It's an average S. of the river course, with great deals and available tee times.
Over booked.
The course was great, but there were way to many golfers on the course. Instead of paying attention to golfing, we spent the entire round paying attention to where everyone was so we didn't get hit.
You can find better
Course was in pretty good shape. Pace of play was reasonable and the staff was friendly. Lots of blind shots. Distances not marked well at all. How tough is it to put a distance marker on every sprinkler head? If you don't have an outstanding golf GPS, don't play here. You'll be guessing all day. If you can't find anywhere else to golf, this is OK. But many other better courses out there at this price.
A neat track with a variety of looks
I've played Heritage Links three times. I'm not from the Twin Cities area, but I visit often. The reason I like Heritage Links is because it offers a good amount of risk/reward scenarios. I've played both the blue and the gold tees, and my favorite hole is easily number six. It's a relatively short par 4 with a green completely surrounded by water except for the left side. Meanwhile, hole 17 gives me fits because I just have no idea what to do off the tee. You really need a perfect tee shot.
The course is bisected by a stream that cuts many of the fairways in half. There are quite a few holes where the decision has to be made...do I hit over the stream? Or do I lay up with an easy seven iron and play for a long approach?
For the price, this is one of my favorite courses in the Twin Cities Metro Area. I've played a couple that are much nicer, but I don't think I've played any that are more fun.
Fair Course
Heritage Links GC is a nice course and kept up fairly well. Definately could use some friendlier staff in the clubhouse though.
Scenic
Course is in good shape, however the bunkers are pretty rough and some are unplayable due to mud and/or gravel. Greens were recently areated, but are usually in good shape. It's a good deal when you get a discount price. It's close to home and I play there several times a year. There are several holes with outstanding scenery.
Cheap is about the only thing going for it.
Unfriendly staff, not in good shape, and VERY slow play. I think because they are so cheap they shove as many people out on the course as they can. Greens need a lot of work. The holes are very tightly packed so if you don't hit it straight you'll still be hitting from the fairway, just on a different hole. It does have a few fun holes to play. The whole place could be much better than it currently is.
