Needs work but has potential
For the last couple of years the course has been going downhill. There are a whole lot of dead trees that need to be removed. A lot of the cart paths are in poor shape. Several tee boxes are in bad enough shape that you're teeing off in a mower strip. There are no marshalls which results in very slow play because groups of five are allowed to play and very slow groups fall one or two holes behind and there's no one to enlighten them. The course layout is really nice and it's a beautiful tract... it's just a shame.
Nice enough for the price
This course needs some investment. $48 to ride, a six pack of beer for $12 and a bag of balls at the range for $5 is a steal. The driving range is grass, which is appreciated. There are some patchy spots in the fairways and rough, but the greens are in decent condition. Some of the tee boxes need to be leveled. There are trees that need trimming. It recommend raising greens fees and concession pricing to invest in the property. My Saturday round was about 4:43, which is too long.
Lake of the Woods
Good golf course. Like playing it. It is public golf. Had a group jump in front of us on 10, told us "the clubhouse told them to".
. They did let us play through.
Where was everybody?
We teed off at 8am and never say anyone in front of us. That allowed us to finish in under 3 hours, which is perfect. The course had very few players. It was cool and windy for the first hour or so, but an amazing day for June golf. The course was in good shape and they guys in the clubhouse were very helpful and friendly.
Greens need some help
The course was great until you came to the greens. Some looked like the surface of the moon. That’s not on the course or the staff, players need to be respectful and fix ball marks. I shouldn’t have to fix numerous ball marks just to be able to putt on every hole. Still recommend the course though
Lake of the Woods
Lots of storm damage. Played behind a group of 5 that were clearly playing the wrong tees!
Paid for 18, stopped at 9
I couldn’t take the pace of play. There was clearly no Marshall on the course and whoever coordinated tee times was clueless. I guess 5 stacks are common here. We had three and sometimes four groups stacked up at every tee box and green just waiting on a 5 stack four groups up.
4 Stars
Only removed on star because majority of the experience was positive. 4.5 hour round was not too bad for peak hours on Friday. The course was in good shape but the greens had just been aerated which led to a lot of putts.
