Poor Course Upkeep, Terrible Staff, Always Over Booked
What used to be the go-to affordable course for years is easily the biggest waste of time and money now, and it doesn’t seem to be changing for the good anytime soon. Riverside is one of the worst managed courses in the area now. The last few times I have gone, I have booked my tee time through GolfNow and when my group has gotten to the course, they either change our tee time to 30min or and hour later, or send us out along with 4 other groups at the same time. Every tee box you will be waiting way too long, followed by a choppy tee box, teeing off into unidentifiable fairways, riddled with goose crap, tree limbs and scattered trash.
Lastly, I knew I was never coming back to this course after I booked my tee time through Golf Now, same thing happened where there pushed our tee time back 40 min, we played the round, and 2 weeks later I got an email from GolfNow that I was being charged $90 for failing to make it to my tee time, that we were there for, but Riverside claims we weren’t there. We pay at the course when we book through GolfNow with Riverside, so they basically made us pay double for a round. When I called Riverside they had no interest in looking into the situation or helping in anyway. The rudest staff I have ever dealt with, consistently. We played here strictly because it is close, and affordable, but if they are pulling that scheme it’s not.
I cannot emphasize enough how much I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. Save your money, or pay up a little to play elsewhere.
Eh
Interesting course layout, but lots of debris in the areas surrounding the fairways (which had no clear or obvious shape). Trash all over the course which was sad to see, and the tee boxes had grass as long as the rough which was also not great. For $35/person for 9 holes, probably won't go back, even though I played the best 9 holes of my life.
No staff member present on the course or at 1st tee
Group came around 18 and drove to 2nd hole to continue playing.
People jumping around groups
Very slow pace of play
6/18/22
6 groups ahead of us stacked at the first tee. Wouldn’t let anyone tee off the back side. We teed off 40 mins after our tee time and played 12 holes in 5.5 hours. Will never come back!
Terrible Course
Awful course. Rude staff. Even worse pace of play.
Get what you pay for
Fairways really aren't fairways but basically unmowed grass you'd find in your backyard. The greens, surpringly, were in great condition.
If you come to the course make sure to bring plenty of bug spray depending on the season. Came back with tons of big bites.
Starter and staff were friendly and nice.
Good Old Riverside!
It’s a fun little “dumpy” course. Walt the owner is super nice and is always trying to keep the place up. RSGC is a Fenton mainstay. You get what you pay for but you gotta love it!
Worst course I’ve ever played on
The course is terrible. Isn’t maintained. You can tell they put the bare minimum into maintenance. Staff is not friendly at all. They walk around with arrogance for some reason. The cart guy was pretty nice. And the hot dogs weren’t terrible but everything else was just sad
Waterfowl
No one gave me a heads up, but there are a lot of geese on the course. They didn’t chase me or anything just a lot of them around. Wasn’t an inconvenience by any means just putting it out there.
Terrible Management
Do not waste your time or money here. Right when we pulled up the starter (which we now found out is the owner) was extremely rude and disrespectful. We had a threesome and a twosome with back to back tee times. We planned on playing a 2v3 scramble. We teed off separately but we were backed up by a slow foursome in front of us so we combined and stayed right on pace with the foursome. When we came around the turn the starter put himself in front my my cart and continued to cuss us out. I had to physically leave my cart because I felt threatened as he put his finger in my face and yelled at me. He then paired one of our groups with a single golfer and put him in a very uncomfortable situation. He forced us straight to hole 10 without the option to stop in the club house to get food, drinks, or even use the bathroom. In addition to this, my sister in law who I was golfing with is pregnant. As we looked back (waiting for the foursome to tee off in front of us), the starter then turned to a father and his 7 year old daughter and yelled at them for reasons unknown. It is absolutely unacceptable for someone, let alone an owner, to speak to paying costumers in such a disrespect way.
Once again, do not waste your time or money if you don't want to deal with this drama.
PS The conditions of the course was also horrid. They to not keep up with this course at all. The fairways and tee boxes were mostly dirt.
They don’t check their golf now reservations
Got to the course and no one was there. If you are going to advertise a 630 am tee time and allow me to book it you should have staff there. Not the first time this has happened. I would just stay away.
