union hills under new owner- Great Promise
this course always has great promise-back in the day when the teamster money flowed in, this track was private and looked it. Great layout, quick greens and sand in many of the bunkers(inside joke)- but it was, at a time, well taken care of. Then the money began to dry up from the teamsters and it has now been sold. The new owner seems to be making many changes with the facility in general-not so much that can be seen on course, as of yet, but it is only February. Great Promise!
New name, old course.
Oak Valley is the new name for the former Union Hills course in Pevely Mo. Being that the new management group just took over and the area got 3 + inches of rain over the weekend the course was in decent shape for this time of year.
I’ll try it again in another month.
Winter golf
We played on a warm day in January. It had just rained the night before. The course was a bit wet but played very well. The greens rolled nice and appeared to be in good shape for the most part especially for January. I am looking forward to coming back once things green up this spring and see what the course really plays like.
A good 18 for the money
I have now played Union Hills 6 times in the past 9 months. This course has great potential. They need to address several sand traps that are lacking sand and the sand that they have is tightly packed, even in the summer. When I played this time, the greens were cut higher for winter play which made them considerably easier to putt. In the summer, their greens have been among the fastest I've played on public courses and they keep them pretty well maintained.
I know this course is off the beaten path but it's a challenging layout that has bettered me several times.
With public courses, I think St. Louis metro area has a top tier like Annbriar, Pevely Farms, Stone Wolf (and when it's not flooded) Tapawingo. along with Spencer T and a few others. Then there's the middle tier courses like Birch Creek (a true gem), Crescent Farms, The Orchards, Country Club of Wentzville and Forest Park to name a few. Then there's the courses you play when you're playing on a budget and among all those courses like Mystic Oaks, Normandie, Columbia Bridges and Sunset Hills, I would put Union Hills at the top of that list. Do a little more work on the course and it could easily rise to that middle tier. If you haven't tried this course, give it a shot (or several). It's more than worth it for the price you pay.
If you like rough
If you like rough and losing balls this is the course for you !
Great place
Greens were in great shape considering the time of year. Looked like they had been aerated recently but came back nicely. (BTW: Shot an 86 which is great for me.)
Sorry but I feel tricked by the reviews...
Based on reviews I seriously thought at was at the wrong course. Someone said it was good for the beginner golfer.....what!? I’m fine with tight tree lined fairways - that’s a great sign of a mature course. This place was clearly back in the day a destination, but the vibe has turned to something more “Camp Crystal Lake”. Fairways are beat. Fairways and tee boxes were like playing from the ruff on many holes. Steep up hills, side hills , tilted fairways that dogleg left and slope right, and blind shots all over the place. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH THE DRIVE FROM SCOTT AFB / BELLEVILLE AREA.
Awesome!
The course was in beautiful condition fairways were plush greens were easy to read and nice and fast with a challenge course layout is beautiful amazing views from Teebox is very hilly which is nice for St. Louis too many flat courses this is a nice change also can’t beat the price hot deal on golf now awesome awesome awesome can’t wait to play again
You're crazy if you don't play this course!
Even with all the hot weather and even less rain the course was in excellent shape from tee to green! Couple that with the awesome price on golf now and I will definitely be playing this course as much as possible!
great track and value
we really like the layout and elevation changes, you can make this course as tough as you want by choosing which tee you play
would like to see a little more water on the fairways, otherwise course is in good shape
Nice challenging course
Nice challenging course. I play here ever so often and would like to play once a week at this particular course. It is a fun and challenging course. You really need to be on top of your game. The layout is beautiful and the scenery around it. I recommend this course and bring my friends here to play at times.
Great day on the links.
As hot and dry as it has been, you wouldn't know it playing here. The course was in fantastic shape. The staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
Great Value for the Money
Course was fun, challenging. The fairways and greens were in great shape, especially for a week of almost 100 degrees. Tee boxes were in fair condition, but very playable. I've played this course twice so far this year and will definitely be playing it again. Being able to shape the ball helps on this course, but if you find fairways, you should find plenty of greens.
Could be a Terrific Course with some Changes
The front nine is goofy, up and down, sort of a makeshift layout. The first seven holes are amateur architecture. Holes 8 and 9 are decent and the back nine is a great layout (Gary Kern design). If they strengthened the first seven holes, this would be a fantastic layout in the countryside. Greens were not perfect, but consistent and acceptable for a public golf course and the money I paid, certainly would not throw rocks at the geens. The fairways are not mown close enough and the ball pretty much stops where it carries on the tee shot, not much roll. It had rained hard as there was still water in most of the bunkers. Some bunkers have not been maintained. If the back nine were like the front nine, I would probably not make the drive again. However, I would consider playing here again for the right price. The last 11 holes make this course a golf course.
My GO-TO course
What a nice course at very reasonable rates, even without GolfNow. There have been rumors about whether the course will survive a new ownership. Based on the amount of workers on the course, and the type of work they were doing, I'm convinced the course is on the upswing. Supposedly a driving range is being built as well, although I have not eye-balled that.
Great value.
The fairways, greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Carts were clean, had fresh water in the club/ball washers. To top it off, we had a late round on Friday after work hours and were late getting back to club house after finishing our 18 holes. And the staff waited for us without any reservation or negative comments about us finishing late (near dark). We had an awesome round (despite my score) and I will be back to Union Hills Golf Course in Pevely, MO as often as my wife will allow.
Course in bad shape
Overall the course was in horrible shape. Roughs were hard to hit out of; fairways were all dirt - no grass
I played the course in the beginning of May as well and cannot disagree more about the shape of the course. Actually had conversations on the course about it being in great shape. Not exactly sure what type of condition you were looking for in a $30 course?
