Won't play here again
-9:30am tee time-5.5 hour round even after complaining about slow play at the turn.
-Grounds Crew was in our way all day and had no course etiquette.
-1st hole the guy mowing the middle of the fairway waved us to hit into him.
-2nd hole the guy raking the bunkers didn't stop as we hit our approach shots.
-Had another guy raking bunkers with a gator and created a dust storm while we were trying to tee off nearby. Had to wait until the dust was gone to hit.
-They were watering greens as we were putting on them on 17 and 18.
-Tee boxes are trashed. On one hole (15 maybe?) it felt like I was standing in a bunker for my tee shot.
-There are a few trees that come into play on drives which need to be trimmed back. I shouldn't have to play a cut or draw to avoid branches 50 yards in front of me.
-The "fairway" was as long as the rough, and even though they were cutting it while we played they weren't collecting it so there was a nice layer of cut grass stuck to your ball on most shots.
-The only thing this course has going for it is the greens roll pretty nice and are fast which can make for some fun putts.
Great Value for a Legendary Course
One of the friendliest staffs in the STL area. Normandie is a gem and the greens are in fantastic shape. Would play again. #FreeDotem
Grand Old Course
This is such a fantastic old course. Really brings you back to the origins of golf. I played a bunch of great Scottish courses...and this old design really stands the test of time. A must play in St. Louis.
Worst Course in STL Area
This course flat out sucks. It doesn't matter that it's challenging when the tee boxes are awful, the rough is awful, the fairways are awful, and the greens are awful. Playing this course will not improve your game - it will just damage your equipment (from hitting off dirt), and cause you frustration. To make the experience even more ridiculous - there was a 5 some playing in front of us - no ranger out there to make sure this isn't happening. Also, I probably heard "Fore!!" yelled 20 different times throughout the 5 hour round. I will never play this course again and I will strongly recommend my friends stay away forever as well.
This course is a little long for me. It was in good shape except for the bunkers.
Great Price for this course.
Had the golf bug and found a last minute super deal tee time on a 40 degree day in January. Never played this course before! It is obviously offseason for golf. I was pleasantly surprised!! Nice traditional layout and greens were rolling true. Pretty long and challenging from back tees. Will definitely play again and recommend to friends. Great value!
Tee boxes were rough
Tee boxes were rough. Fairways were rough but there was alot of rain the last week.
Complete junk
Worst course I have ever played in the St Louis area. Bunkers are nonexistent (its packed dirt like the inside of a baseball field with no sand at all), greens are horrible (bumpy, slow, full of weeds), tee boxes hardly have any grass on them and are rock hard to where its hard to even put a tee in the ground (ladies tees are just placed out in the fairway somewhere), and don't plan on hitting range balls. We got there at 930 and they were sold out of the 4 buckets they have and do not sell any more throughout the day. Course and clubhouse are in general disrepair overall. Chances of ever going back, 0.
Old school course
They definitely didn't design the course. But, you get what you pay for.
The Foulis brothers designed this course in 1901!
Good times
I enjoy playing NGC. The course is laid out well and has some good angles and hills and drop offs to make you challenge yourself. The tee boxes are a little beat up and there's some patches of fairways that are getting the work they need but considering our climate and the weather it's not anything to fault the course for.
Would like there to be a cart person that maybe comes around occasionally so you could get more ice or a beverage but the water in the buckets was cold so I could refill my bottle.
Bathroom could use a little love and upkeep.
Cart paths are really the worst part probably.
But for a good price on GolfNow it's worth playing for sure.
Marshall Needed
Course was good except there seemed to be more than the usual # of blind holes. Also course is a little tight. We were a 2-some and had a 3-some of young men in front of us. They took way too much time sizing up their shots on the green. We tried to get ahead of them at the turn but unfortunately that was the one time they seemed to be advancing normally. A marshall would certainly have helped. Took us over 5 hrs. to play 18 holes.
Cut the grass
I am sick of losing balls in plain sight just off the fairway. Big shout out to the pro shop for showing up 2 minutes before my tee time. That was really awesome.
Grand old lady with a number of wrinkles
Excellent course design by students of Old Tom Morris, with wide fairways and large, challenging greens. Most tee boxes need re-work, and 50% of the cart paths are totally inadequate.
Good golf at a grand old course, with a few wrinkles around the infrastructure.
Save your money
Here's an honest review of the course for 2016: it's terrible. Imagine an entire round out of hardpan---in the fairways. How on earth can you not have zoysia in such terrible shape? We literally made a rule that we could move our ball to any grass that we could find. I often moved my ball from the fairway to the rough because the rough was the only grass I could find. Luckily I only paid $24 in a Hotdeal, but my buddy who joined us had to pay $36.
I'd call it a dogtrack if it didn't give dogtracks a bad name. The greens were hilariously bumpy and sandy. The bunkers had no sand. Not sure what that was in there.
If I ever play that course again, it's because they're offering a promotion where they pay me to play it. I wouldn't even play it for free.
the stuff is friendly
the stuff was very nice and enjor playing.
Always a great time
Beautiful course and challenging enough to keep your interest! Always enjoy playing here.
