HOT DAY
Im new to playing so was a little rough on me, but now I would love to go back to play again. Course was in good condition for a very hot day, doing a little work on the course to make it better.A great classic course will be back
Great layout...GREENS rolling true
For December the greens were in amazing shape....rolling true. This course has GRRAT potential. Can't wait to play again in the spring
Nice course
Clubhouse and food were average but the course itself and greens were great. Had trouble finding where the back nine was but overall had a good experience and will be back.
Slow play, okay otherwise.
Round took 5 hrs 45 min. Supposedly there was a tournament earlier, but it was bad enough that two of my foursome left. Tee boxes were brutal - maybe they let them in go in the fall. That said, the course holds up pretty well for being so old. A lot of blind shots and otherwise unique layouts. Worth playing once to say you did.
Classic
I enjoy this classic St Louis course. With a little more TLC it would truly be a gem. Still had a great time.
Gret Place to Play
I would play this course again had my best round of 83 have to try and beat that score missed several birdie chances
Fun round
Fairways were in good condition. Some greens were a little patchy and tee boxes were rock hard. Enjoyed my first time at the course. Stay in the short stuff!
eroding conditions
greens and fairways were good; tee boxes had many bare spots, cart paths are awful, some with massive potholes. This is a great layout and historic course. I hope UMSL will invest in it and preserve it.
Fantastic greens!
For a course that's over 100 years old, the layout is more creative than some modern public courses. The greens are very good with consistent speed. The fairways, rough, and bunkers are a little spotty...but for under $30, Normandie is a wonderful value.
Oldie but goodie
This course plays very long.
Fairways and greens were great but the tee boxes could use some attention . Could use some signage for some hole direction.
Normandie
Course needs a lot of work , but it is a great old layout . Fairways need to be cut. , 70% of the bunkers need to be eliminated and the rough is too high . The greens are in good shape and the bridges over the creeks need some work as does the cart paths .
Show Some Love
It was a nice course and the value was awesome. $25 for 18 with a cart at 6:45am on a Sunday morning. The tee boxes had more broken tees laying around on them than any five boxes I have ever seen put together. There weren't any trash cans to put you broken tees. Just put a little trash can out there and people will clean up a lot of that for you. If you don't give them a trashcan then get out there and clean them up yourself. It looked awful. I could overlook the weeds on the boxes, pick up the trash.
I'm more of an evening player and beer drinker. The early morning tee time was new to me so maybe the old dudes are this way everywhere. We were a twosome and played so fast it wasn't fun at times. The groups (we let two groups play through) behind us kept hitting right up on us. 10 different times we had guys hitting 150+ yard shots with 20 yards behind us. They were ready to hit again before we got to our next shot. It was rude and took away from the experience. I'm sure others would disagree and love that pace of play, but I hated feeling rushed the whole time.
Could be Awesome not in Great Shape
Course has some challenging holes and is a cool layout.
Poor Condition Tees and Fariways.
Unplayable Bunkers needed sand badly
Greens were in good shape.
I did enjoy the course wish it was in better shape.
Poor Condition
I hadn't played this course in over ten years and was very disappointed in the condition of it. The good layout is still the same and I like it as there are some challenging holes. However, there were weeds all throughout the tee boxes and the fairways were full of bare spots and they need watering badly. Greens were full of debris from the trees and need to be rolled to smooth bumpy areas. Sad to see it this way, but the Golfnow price was low so I gave it a try.
Poor Condition
This should be a great course. It's well-designed with a lot of interesting holes. But the condition the course was in when I played it (5/2/2015) was extremely poor. The greens were fine. But most fairways had large dirt patches and other unplayable areas. On most holes, it was better to be in the rough, although the rough on many holes had similar types of unplayable areas. Will probably play again to see if conditions improve later in the year, but that 9-hole round was not worth the $25 it cost.
Great Layout, Course Conditions Need Some Work
Older course, somewhat challenging, hilly, lots of blind holes. Most of fairways in good shape considering the time of year in St. Louis (mid Apr). Some fairways need aeration and lots of reseeding. Greens were well kept but on this day pin placements were not well thought out, such as mid-swells, etc.
Will not return to this course
I was told to start on the back nine for a 2:20 tee time. A group of 4 old men jumped in front of me. It took me almost 2 1/2 hours to play 9 holes behind them. There was a single behind me that was not pleasant. the greens were in poor condition and the cart paths were terrible. I was so frustrated that by the time I finished the back 9 I left even though I paid for 18. Was not happy with the experience at this location. Slow pace and poor conditions. Only positive was that the carts had club cleaner and my 15 year old daughter had fun with that.
plays long when wet
In March fairways are still dormant and when wet course plays long from blue tees. Greens were in good shape and fast. Duffers play later in the day here so pace of play really slows down - way over five hours. Reason to play here is the layout - this is one of the toughest 6400 yard courses in st Louis area. You will use every club in bag and play from all types of lies
Fun Course for the Money
18 holes with a cart for $26 is a good deal even for a course that is not in great condition.
The tee boxes could use a little work and be softer. The fairways and greens were in 7 of 10 quality. The bunkers are hard and do not have much sand, very difficult to exit.
The course layout is great, offering a variety of easy to mid to difficult holes. The course also has good elevation changes and very few water hazards. A few par 5's are reachable in 2 and give a good opportunity for a birdie. The #18 250 yard par 3 is a great challenge and an awesome feeling when scoring par to finish your round.
Will play again, good challenge. The back tees would provide a good challenge even to a scratch golfer.
Normandie Golf Club slightly Disappointed
Arrived about 15 minutes early for a 2:21 tee time and the course seemed slow with a two some teeing off. When in the fairway on #2 I noticed a single on the green and noticed a foursome playing #4 which is adjacent to #2 and wondered if the pace would slow. I took my time and by #4 I noticed another single behind me, I left him play through on #8 cause I didn't want to be rushed.
After getting a stern warning for pulling my cart well off and behind the green on #9 I approached #10 to find the single I allowed to play through waiting to tee off so we paired up. When we got to #11(par 4) the foursome was waiting to tee off and I knew play would be slow. We decided to play #3 and #4 over and the foursome was just finishing #11 when we stopped. We played two holes, including a par 5 in the same time as the foursome played one par 4.
This is the second time this happened this year when I made the turn for the back nine. The last time the course was log jammed on the back side but we finished 18. Today I played #10, then #3, #4, and #9 then went home. Missed playing 5 holes but didn't want to play a 3 hour back nine.
Good luck. Staff lacks tack and friendliness.
