I LOVE Normandie
The old girl was looking splendid when I arrived in the early morning. Yes, she was rough in places and needed sand in her traps. Undulating greens were challenging. Long narrow fairways will test you. The staff is awesome. This St. Louis gem is one of the best deals around. She's close to the airport and not far from downtown or Clayton. Normandie, oldest course west of the Mississippi, is a treasure. Please fix your divots.
Lots of hills and long
Course was very hilly, and some of the holes were long with narrow fairways. The greens were in pretty good shape, and the fairways were just average for blue grass. No sand in the bunkers!
Don't waste your money
The layout of this course is really great. I only wish that they would put some $$ into the place. The tee boxes / Fairways / Greens were in terrible condition. The Bunkers were nothing but mud and hardpack. This course has the potential to be a really nice course, but I at this point there are better value/$ course selections in the STL area.
Not a bad course at all!
Played this course yesterday. The fairways were in great shape. The greens looked a little rough but they rolled true. There are lots of terrain changes and blind tee shots but still a fun course. Definitely not one to walk though!
The staff was very friendly. The pro shop is almost non-existant, which is why I rated the overal facilities as average.
Normandy is still Normandy...lots of potential..
Normandy could be a premiere public course. The layout is awesome. The fairways were good. The tee boxes and greens need some work. The bunkers are horrible. A lot of the bunkers had standing water. None of them had been raked. Looks like they haven't maintained the bunkers at all...a little tender loving care would go a long way to making Normandy a really nice course...
Good up and down course
Long Par 5's. Many of the greens are not visible from the T-box. Score card doesn't have course layout, but the course is smart phone friendly with full GPS information
Golf Course Conditions
I would like to say that I thought the course was in good condition, considering I played in wet conditions because of rain for the past 2 days. I can tell management has made great strives at making this course a jewel again. Fairways and greens in great shape. Tee boxes and bunkers are ruff in a few area's. Overall, on a scale from 1-10... I would rate Normandie, a 6-7. Please keep up the good work... I would like to see a better clubhouse and more refreshment and a few more accommodations...
A Pleasant Surprise!
Having played Normandie Golf Course many, many times in the past, I was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions yesterday!
The greens were in excellent shape. Smooth and fairly fast. Fairways were plush and mowed appropriately. And the bunkers have had a lot of work done to restore their condition.
Overall, this was the best condition that I have ever seen Normandie in. Nice to be so close to another excellent course!
St. Louis 2014
Decent layout but poor conditions. Most tees were chewed up, fairways are made up of some sort of crabgrass-like grass which is brown underneath tufts of green. Sand traps are awful, standing water, mud, or hard pan if dry. Greens are okay albeit slow. Several greens have severe slopes and missed putts from above the hole roll all the way off the green. Cart paths are bumpy. Tree roots are pushing up the blacktop. Some potential here, but course needs a lot of work.
Needs Work
Good:
1. Pace of play - tee'd off at 8:45 on a Saturday and was off the course by noon, no waiting
2. Greens were in great shape. Rolled true and were fairly receptive while still quick
3. Classic layout
Bad:
1. Condition - tee boxes, fairways, rough and especially the non-existent bunkers with grass growing throughout were unacceptable. It's a shame they don't keep it up
2. Rack rates - way overpriced, but you can always find a deal on golf now for $24 or so. I think that's about what it's worth
3. No idea why, but there were range balls scattered throughout the course, probably found 10+ during the round on various holes. Just odd.
What could be a good, fun course is declining quickly
The original Bellerive Country Club?
Normandie is always a challenge. #10 is my nemesis. Missed a 4 footer for par. Walters has done a nice job of bringing the course along, but still has a ways to go. Did you know Normandie was the original "Bellerive"?
Needs investment
This use to be one of the premier public courses in the area, but 30 years with no investments in upgrade and/or major upkeep is showing. The layout is awesome and could be a real fun challenge if some work would be done on the fairways.
Something around every turn.
Perfect day for golf. The grounds were in great shape. Lots of interesting greens. Loved the wide fairways on a number of holes. Just enough challenge for a weekend golfer.
Decent course
Need to play this one again. A lot of blind fairway shots.
Sunday afternoon with my son
Played with my son who is a beginner. I was a little disappointed that the range wasn't open because he would have benefited from hitting balls before we played. (That was one of the reasons I chose this course.) Tee boxes were hard and dry; fairways and rough were ok; greens were receptive and in pretty good shape; bunkers we average to awful (greenside bunker left of 16th green was hard as a rock with weeds growing in it). We went out as a twosome which was preferable; we got pushed a little by a twosome behind us who we let play through at about the 6th hole. Otherwise, no real issues. I still think is was a good value for what I paid
Course Condition
Course condition was not as good as it could have been. Tee boxes full of weeds & crabgrass. Some fairways not good either.
Normadie
Besides being the oldest course west of the Mississippi, it has nothing to offer. Tee boxes were rock hard, literally broke a tee trying to put in ground. Fairways were super rough....the greens were nice though. Super fast n hard but won't be playing this course again especially for 48$
Classic course layout
A few dry spots on the fairway, greens very good. good.
