Madputter
This is one of my favorite courses, the greens are in excellent shape, the course is a little narly but we had tornadoes and wind storms recently. Great course for the value.
Disappointed
I was curious to try this course, and I'm not impressed. When I got there, we had to wait because they didn't have enough carts, and we had to walk the first 2 holes before they brought us some. The course was jammed packed with holders and the pace of play was rediculous. Played 15 holes in about 4 1/2 hours before I left because I was tired of waiting. Course was is actual decent shape and it was cheap, but now I know why.
This course has good staffs.
I used this golf course several times and I like it. But recently the course condition is not so good.
Oldest Course west of Mississippi
The oldest course has time honored shot values with the lowest prices in the Saint Louis region Scot Robert Foulis built Normandie and original Forest Park 18 with mules and a scoop shovel
Getting better
I can tell work has been done to bring this wonderful track back to it's original beauty. On a possitive note, I will say that the greens are in better shape than in the past.
Some concerns at this time are the tee boxes needing attention, the cart paths needing resurfacing and the sand traps needing work on drainage. I would also say that the fairways need work however most do at this time of season. the carts are old and in need of replacing as well.
Historic course with an outstanding design
While there are some bare spots here and there in the fairways, the greens are in outstanding shape. There is a ton of history in this course, including a hosting of the Western Open and a St. Louis favorite of sports legends such as Babe Ruth, Pepper Martin, and Babe Zacharias, among others. I've played most of the courses in St. Louis - Normandie has the best combination of challenge and classic design of any in the area. I wholeheartedly recommend that any lover of golf experience Normandie.
Excellent classic layout requiring strategy. Worth every minute and dime.
Players and staff are courteous. Welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
Normandy is Normandy
I've been playing there for more than 30 years and Golf Now got me on for the least amount of all that time.
This course needs attention
It would be easy to dismiss the condition of the course if the staff was friendly. I have played at many courses in St Louis and this has been by far the most unpleasant experience I have had to date.
Great course for the money and very challenging
Very big course and very challenging. If you miss fairway, good luck finding your ball!
Great old public course, just needs work on sand traps
Course is in very good shape except for sand traps. Traps need work. Staff is great
The course was in great condition and perfect for our group that contained regular golfers, casual golfers, and a first timer
Normandie Golf Course is always in good shape and the staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Will definitly return.
Overall pretty good course
Nice tree lined course, could stand a little TLC. The holes are picturesque and challanging from the back tees; which I'd recommend playing. Watch out for hole #4, a dogleg left par 5 where missing the fairway leaves a delicate layup to 200 yards... anything more and you risk being wet. The Tee boxes are nothing spectacular, the fairways are okay and the greens look like they are played quite a bit and the patrons don't always repair their ball marks. Also, most of the greens are the size of a postage stamp, so the not only does the course play long, but you have to have good approaches the score well. Overall, I enjoyed my round, as I was able to pull out my driver and still be asked to make shots coming in. I would recommend this course if you could find a good deal, as I thought the regular price was a bit much for the conditions of the course.
The greens are the best thing about this course, very true.
I had a great time at this course. It was very challenging playing from the tips, used just about every club in my bag, and shot a great round. The sand in the sand traps was a little pebblely, not quit soft sand, and some of the tee boxes could use some help, but over all, great for the price!
It was fun playing the oldest public course west of the Mississippi.
I played it late in August and for that time the course was in good shape needs a little bit of attention but it is a great course for the price I paid.
If you can handle Normandie, you can handle any course.
Commonly thought of as one of the tougher public courses in the area, Normandie is presently in great shape relative to its condition several seasons ago. I play there several times per week. It's playing short and fast given the lack of rain recently. Yesterday, the greens were soft and a little slow, I believe in an effort to keep them wet and lush when in past years, by this time, they'd lost 1 or 2 completely and portions of others. In that context, Normandie is probably in as good shape as it's ever been in this decade, for this time of year. Some tee boxes are pretty rough (14, 15, & 16, particularly) and some of the bunkers are almost devoid of sand, but these are traditional Normandie hallmarks. Given the quality of the layout, its current condition, and the great online prices, it may be the best bargain in town. Be advised you do NOT want to pay the "regular" rates. Their late afternoon rates are steep-ish ($26.50 until 5 p.m., then $21.50 after that), and you have little chance of finishing 18 if you tee off after 4 pm. You can easily find more reasonable and fair rates online. Other than that, my one complaint is late afternoon play bogs down with league play, and god-forbid those goof balls ever feel its necessary to let anyone play thru. All-in-all though, one of my favorite venues.
Bring a lot of balls
Course is very narrow. A lot of blind shots and very hilly. Not the course for a slicer. Very tight layout. You'll be yelling fore a bit.
Worse Experience Ever
I've never witnessed a more rude staff than here, or at any type of business for that matter. Tee times were over 30 mins behind at 9:30am. Course was in horrible condition. And it was $12 more than the two other course I played that weekend; Tapawingo & Stone Wolf. I've played around 20 courses in the past 12 months and this one takes the cake for worst ever. Completely ruined my morning/afternoon. Those on here that review this course positively, either have some biased attitude or do not play many other courses. I created my account today simply in hopes of saving as many golf lovers I could from wasting their precious golfing time here.
Course looks better than it has in years but price is still too high for what it is
I have played this course several times over the last 5 years and it looked better yesterday than I have ever seen it. I'm sure a big part of that is because of the mild summer.
At least all of the greens were usable and not just circles spray painted into the fairway in front of the actual green as it has been in the past.
I only play Normandie when I can get a better price on Golf Now than any other course in the area. Their normal rate of $48 is way too much for this course.
