I have played this course off and on for 30 years and it is falling into disrepair and inattention
Unfortunate that such a previously good course is failing
A beautiful course with character .
I love this course . I play it every time I'm in St. Louis . The par 3's are really challenging when club selecting . The greens were in great shape . Be sure to pair up with someone who knows the course because there are a few surprises .
Oldest course in St. Louis and presents a great challenge.
Normandie is said to be the oldest course in St. Louis dating back to the late 1920's. Its seen it good and bad days when it comes to conditioning in the several past years but, now under Walter's Mgmt. it's returning to its glory days. If you're a walker be prepared to get a good workout. Normandie has enough hills to test your endurance while also testing your shot capabilities with long irons if you're not a big hitter of the tee. Undulating greens continue to challenge your putting skills sometimes even within 2 ft. of the hole on several greens. If you think you've got a good game, by all means try Normandie to see how good it is.
Cool old course
A different course. You will use every club in the bag.Wide fayrways ,narrow fairways and tricky par threes. a GPS helps.
In need of TLC...
Great layout. However, tee boxes in need of clean up. Fairways are very thin. Greens in pretty good shape. This course has a fantastic layout despite a few too many blind tee shots. Some $$$ is needed to get this baby in shape. Dead trees need to be removed. Chemicals and grass seed are needed for the tee boxes and fairways. And the bunkers are a complete mess. The workers are trying their best but a real investor is needed.
Great course for the price.
Greens, fairways and rough were in great shape. Bunkers need some serious TLC.
Old course,good course
It was nice to play a course with some history.great par threes.
Greens in great shape.
Left after 9 because of rain and they issued us a coupon for 9 later.
Great rate... fairways need some work. Greens and tees are great.
Got a chance to play Normandie mid-day on a Monday for $12. Can't beat the price no matter the conditions or weather. Having said that, the conditions were marginal especially the fairways where the zoysia was very thin in a bunch of areas. We haven't had a lot of "heat" yet in the area which helps make the zoysia grow, particularly at night, hence in a month or so, the fairways should be a lot better. Contrary, the greens and tee boxes were in some of the best conditions ever, plus the rough was thick and full in most places.
Only 15 minutes from anywhere in St Louis
Fairways are coming in nicely. Greens will challange anyone. Staff are super nice and good deal for your buck.
Good, could be better; beware of weekly leagues
The course was in pretty good shape but needed a little more attention. The first cut of rough was extremely long and it was difficult to find any balls that were not hit into the fairway. It was especially difficult because I was playing by myself. I've played here before and that usually isn't the case (an employee actually told me, due to the rain, its been hard to maintain the grass without ruining it). I was playing very quickly for the first 12 holes but ran into a league on 13. They apparently had not placed their priority on playing with any pace and I was left waiting for them, at times, for 10 - 15 minutes on any given hole. So beware of leagues if you are playing in the evenings.
The layout is great But
that being said the bunkers are not playable the rough was way to rough and the tee boxes are bad course has great potential hope something is done
Had its better days
The course layout was fine, and the Par-3's are especially scenic and fun to play. The staff is friendly and professional.
Other aspects of the course are lacking. Most holes did not have ball washers. The sand traps were un-raked, often filled with standing water, and rock hard. The clubhouse is pretty barebones. None of the water holders were outfitted with water jugs. This course would need a lot of maintenance to justify its $30 (with cart) greens fee.
Very Poor Condition
Entire course was mud, dirt fairways, sand greens, tee boxes were as long as the rough, bunkers filled to the brim with water. It's sad because this course has a lot of potential. I will not be going back.
Course needs work, definitely neglected.
The course needs work. It is losing it's fairways, very clumpy, with nut-crass, the tee boxes appear to have been abandoned. The cart paths are in really bad shape, they simply have not been maintained, as well as the rest of the course. Normandy has always had very well kept greens, and that was the only highlight of the round. I would not recommend this course.
Very slow play, but it always is. Course was ok. Staff was wonderful. Good deal.
Course just seemed to have drainage problems. It had rained the previous day. There was quite a bit of standing water on the course still. Course is always challenging. Very slow play, but you know that going in there on a Sunday morning/afternoon golf outing. All in all, very good value for the price.
Front 9 greens had been aireated without enough sand fill.
Course seems to be undergoing a lot of work. For some reason part of the fairways appeared dead or not greening up as normal as other courses.
old course in poor shape
Thankfully the greens were in good shape, because I had something to tell my friends positive about the course I picked. The fairways are in awful shape and the tee boxes are even worse. I appreciate the history of the course, but it needs serious work OR a serious reduction in fees. I reserved a foursome at $39.50 per person on golfnow.com but found out after we left that my friends had all been charged $48.
Don't Go Here
Hands down the worst course I have ever played at. The greens are the only part of the course that has grass. Even if you're in the fairway you are basically hitting off of dirt. The staff was fairly friendly but the lack of attention to maintenance at the course was appalling. Don't even waste your time looking at this course.
Good Play, Good Location
I can't wait for the weather to improve because I know that I will always be able to get a good round in at a good course at Normandie. Especially early in the season when this course is in really good shape, it is one of the best kept secrets in St. Louis.
I really like this course and hope that it continues to improve. Even nice in the off season.
Fairways are bermuda grass, not zoysia.
