Slow play and aerated greens
We tee’d off at 9:15 on a Saturday morning and didn’t finish until 2:30.... painfully slow. The group in front of us was looking in the wood for balls on almost every hole. Also, as far as I know, we paid normal weekend rates and had newly aerated greens on many holes, which were almost impossible to get a true roll on any putt less than 10 feet. I don’t spring golf with aeration, but 1) I want to know in advance it was done, and 2) I’d expect to pay less since I’m losing 1-2 shots per hole without putting on good greens.
I liked the Woodlands 9
The Meramec 9 was flat with water in play on 7 holes. Water off the tee is hidden on holes 4 & 7. The greens on this 9 had recently been aerified, which would have been nice to know. The Woodlands was a much better 9, imo. The holes were more interesting, and had more elevation changes. The greens on this 9 were not aerified, but had bad poa annua infestation on a number of greens. Course was soaking wet due to recent rain, which led to cart path only and a grinding pace of play. I'd play it again, if I could be guaranteed Woodlands/Prairie 9s, but I don't think golfnow lets you know which 9s you'll play.
Great Time
We teed off at 4 PM and could have snuck in a couple more holes. Great experience and will be back! Only 2 blind shots but for a first timer that will happen.
Best Value
For a round in December we got a great value and had a wonderful round!
Nice Course
Played Meramac and Woodlands. Course in great shape overall. Greens were fast and in good condition. Paid $45 on a Friday which is a good value.
Overpriced For Playing on Halloween & Aerated Greens
We were playing 1 day from November 1, on aerated greens - and they are charging nearly $70. ($69) Ridiculous & absurb!
To tell you how absurb this fee was, the best course in the St. Louis area (Annbriar) charges $70 in the summer months. This course is no Annbriar.
Because of their high fee, the course was not very crowded and the pace of play was great. A good thing for us.
All the greens were punched but it didn't appear they put any sand on them. A little strange. Overall, the condition of the course was good/average.
Another thing this course needs badly is better yardage markers. No 150 yard pole. No red, white and blue stakes. Just extrememly faded markers on the cart path and hard to find markers in the fairway. This only slows down play.
I feel the layout of these 2 nines (Meramec/Woodlands) is very good. I think the Woodlands nine is the most picturesque in the St. Louis area. Besides the opening 2 holes of the Meramec, the other 7 are very solid.
The staff is very friendly and the course did have a ranger. However, this was not needed because no one was on the course.
Great course for the money
Well maintained, very pretty course! Layout is a little confusing for first-timers I think, with a few holes that require carts to double back from the tee to the fairway, but not a huge problem. Had a lot of fun!
Great Facility
This is a great facility and well worth playing however if you're a single player you can not book a tee time on GolfNow.
What a gem!
The course was unique, challenging and the service was excellent! The staff person actually picked us up at our car. This was first class all the way!
Too slow, bunched-up tee times
They booked way too many teetimes to close together. A round of golf should not take five hours. That’s a completely unpleasant pace of play.
Not worth the money
I have played this course for multiple years. The quality of the course has gone down significantly. I don’t plan on playing here anytime soon.
