Woodland/Meramec at Tapawingo National Golf Club

It pains me to leave this review but I have to be honest. While the tee boxes have bounced back and are in much better shape than the last time I played, seeing the greens in the state they’re in is more than disappointing. This used to be one of the courses my group would be excited to play and now…even with the discount the course provided, I’m afraid it isn't worth the drive or the price paid for green fees. Really hope they’re able to bounce back from the fungus plaguing the greens next season but we will not be returning until next season.

It’s been sooo hot the last couple of weeks that the greens on Woodlands and Prairie were pretty burned up. Hard to putt on reliably. Lots of burned out spots. The greens were aerated around Aug 1st. and a fungicide applied to help kill a fungus. No telling how long before the greens are back to their usual condition.

This review is specific to the weekend of 8/3/25 - we've came off of two brutally hot weeks in MO and the course is showing it. Half of the greens were punched, some partially punched, brown dead spots on them as well. Fairways were in good shape it seemed, but tee boxes were not very flat and had some weeds growing around them. I am glad our rate was on a hot deal because had I been part of the group behind us during the 5+ hour round that paid full price I would be pretty disappointed.

To be fair most of the public courses in the area are also dealing with similar conditions just since it has been so hot up until this weekend. The staff was good, although they police the front nine with marshalls we never saw anyone on the back while we waited on each tee box. Beverage prices seemed steep too.

Greens on Woodlands were in terrible shape. Easily worst I've played in last year anywhere.

Played this weekend with some friends. 2 ladies, 2 gentlemen. The starter made a comment “hey ladies, we’re giving 3 mulligans for a $1 for the ladies.” We all were offended.

The clubhouse was very rowdy and both of our female guests didn’t feel welcome or comfortable in the environment.

The ladies had to push their way to get into the ladies room because the line was so long for beer and food.

This place gives a bad rap for golf. Certainly works against the premise of trying to be open for all players.

Every hole was beautiful and the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were top notch. 35$ for 9 holes is an exceptional deal for 9 holes.

Always enjoy Tapawingo. Just an awesome layout—-although I’ve still never played the par 5 ending the nine which is narrow and then downhill to the green. Eats my kind every time.

Returned to Tapawingo and played the Meramec-Woodlands nines. Course was in excellent shape. Tee boxes were solid and fairways were well kept. Rough was tough but not too difficult to play out of. Greens rolled great and only a couple had a few pitch marks. Plus, we got a last-minute twilight rate of $48, which was a bargain!

The one ding was the the first half of hole #1 on Woodlands was “closed.” Not sure why. So we ended up dropping our balls at the 150-yard mark and played it as a par 3. The staff service was top notch and friendly.

Feel like it is a rather challenging course with a couple of very difficult holes. No. 4 on Woodlands is a monster to play as it is all uphill. The closing holes on Meramec are also exacting but interesting to play. A number of holes have major elevation changes that will challenge picking a club.

Overall course is in very good condition. Only thing that could use some attention are the bunkers. They are overdue to have additional sand added. Some are so compacted that it’s like playing off hard pan. I guess the lesson is stay out of the bunkers. A very enjoyable course.

I have been casually golfing for about 10 years, between Memphis, Florida, and STL mostly and this is by far the nicest course for the best price ive played. I paid $55 to ride 18 here which seems like a steal compared to what I have paid elsewhere.

The course conditions were excellent and the courses are very challenging but beautiful. The elevation changes make it unique and fun to play.

The older staff kind of gives the typical country club pretentious attitude but oh well you don't interact with them much outside the clubhouse.
