Old Orchard Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Opened in 1929, Old Orchard Country Club has a classic design with challenges that stand up to modern golf courses. Throughout the course, you'll see traces of the site's former use as a farm. Ancient apple trees from the original orchard frame many of the holes. The diverse layout will test you with a variety of different shots but the gently rolling terrain makes for an easy walk. Skill and strategy will be generously rewarded but it's not an overly punishing layout for the high handicapper. Old Orchard's greens play true and fast and they are often flanked with strategically positioned bunkers. A stream wanders through the golf course, coming into play on several holes. Golfers will face a tricky island green on the par-5 seventh hole as well as an almost-island green on the par-4 13th.

Honestly Zero stars
I read the reviews and still played because I am not a snobby golfer or care too much about the course conditions. Really just there to have fun. Tee box’s were horrible, greens were even worse. I made it to one whole in two - the lawn mover guy (yes they were moving the lawns at 2:00 PM on a Friday) ran over my ball on the edge of the green. Would never go back.
Still needs work
Tee boxes and greens need help. Always loved the design. Golf Now deal made this day fair, couldn't justify paying $70. which I believe is the standard rate.
Terrible conditions
The source was aerating the back 9 so we had to okay the front twice. The tee boxes looked like the rough. Even the greens in the front 9 were in poor condition.
TERRIBLE
Just awful, the back nine was closed and literally no one bothered to mention anything to me until I was on hole 12 and the groundskeepers told me the back was closed. Last time I came here there was a 1 hour wait for golf carts as well, it’s not even worth your time just go to Suneagles, staff way nicer.
Needs Work
Not one to bash golf courses this needs work. Greens need work and are very slow I mean slow. A lot of crab grass and rough needs attention. Second time playing here could be last
Worst course in NJ
Tee boxes were over grown and had no markings for where to tee off. Greens were absolutely atrocious. Extremely overpriced. Would not waste my money here again.
Tillinghast is not happy
The bones are here for a really nice course. The Tillinghast routing is there, but not much else. Course is in disrepair. Bunkers have grass growing, tee boxes are shot, not much difference between the fairway and rough. Greens are patchy. Major renovations needed to save this one time gem. It’s ok if you are learning the game r just going out to work on a few things. Serious players should avoid this until the course is brought back up. Hopefully better days ahead for Old Orchard. Staff was great,
Abomination
I thought I had experienced all kinds of courses over the years...I was wrong! Orchard Hills is not a links course or a mountain track...it is the golf equivalent of a deserted playground littered with the detritus of a crack house and meth lab. The tee boxes have higher and thicker grass than the rough at the Us Open, the fairways look like the African Savannah and the greens have the feel of a freshly grown Chia Pet. The golf course should be shut down by the DOE, DEP, and probably the FBI as well since the place must be a front for something other than a golf course since nobody in their right mind would charge people to play a round of golf on a course like this unless they were part of a criminal enterprise. Oh, and it took over 3.5 hours to get through 14 holes.

Believe the BAD reviews
This course is terrible and NOT worth the $70 per person rate. Course has a nice layout but, the grass is not maintained, there are mounds of grass clippings everywhere, the greens are infected with mold and bare, the fairways are like the rough and the rough is like the tall grass. In addition the sand traps are full of crab grass and the tee boxes are overgrown. Not to mention that the golf carts do not work and the ones that do work are held together by tape. Do your self a big favor, do not waste your hard earned money. Only play this course if the rate is $25 per person.
What a DUMP!!!
Don’t waste your money....... this place is an absolute dump!!
Bad conditions
Old orchard has some really great holes and is very challenging. We have played here many many times but only when I can get a good deal/price because it is pricey. This visit was the worst condition I’ve seen it in. Tee boxes were so overgrown, some of the ladies tee boxes weren’t marked, and lots of no grass areas on the fairway. But if you don’t mind these few issues and paying a pretty buck, the course is fun.
