Old Orchard Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Opened in 1929, Old Orchard Country Club has a classic design with challenges that stand up to modern golf courses. Throughout the course, you'll see traces of the site's former use as a farm. Ancient apple trees from the original orchard frame many of the holes. The diverse layout will test you with a variety of different shots but the gently rolling terrain makes for an easy walk. Skill and strategy will be generously rewarded but it's not an overly punishing layout for the high handicapper. Old Orchard's greens play true and fast and they are often flanked with strategically positioned bunkers. A stream wanders through the golf course, coming into play on several holes. Golfers will face a tricky island green on the par-5 seventh hole as well as an almost-island green on the par-4 13th.

It’s a shame
It’s a shame what they’ve let this course become. Crab grass. Burned out fairways. Bumpy greens with patches of missing grass.
Bad Course Condition
It was my first time here and honestly my last. For the price they charge for 18 holes they could spend it on maintaining the course. The fairways were almost as bad as the rough. Crab grass on most fairways. The greens were in awful shape. Dirt patches on green, and we’re long causes slower putts. There is one very cool hole with the island green and the next hole tee box was nice. The rest of the tee boxes were moved and high grass. I know sometimes there are repairs to tee boxes but this was every tee box.
Waste of money
Course is in horrendous shape. Tee boxes don't exist. Fairways or rough, there is no difference.. Never saw bunkers with weeds growing in them, first time sight. Fairways, if not like the rough, have dead patches everywhere. Greens are dead and rotten. Never coming back here. Never coming back.
Needs work
Good course but not kept up in any way. Tee boxes not mowed at all. Bunkers overgrown . Greens ok.
Not worth what I paid
Not for the money anymore
Been here a bunch of times but they have completely forgot to maintain the course. Greens had a ton of brown spots, a ton of crab grass all over but I’ll tell you what I had a good lay or 2 in the sand trap....cause there was grass in it!
For $70 it was not worth the money. Staff was very friendly but that was about it. They’ve given up on this course, you should too.
Rough shape
This course was in very rough shape. The tee boxes and temporary tee boxes weren’t even mowed. The greens were in bad shape. The area around the greens had grass longer than an out of bounds area. Lost a few payable tee shots and approach shots. Signs saying stay on cart path, when the cart path ends and it’s just the grass. Crab grass and weeds all throughout the fairways and around the greens. Definitely not worth $70 a round. I’ve played much nicer courses for half the price.
What They Charge Is A Crime
I played this course every Sat morning the first tee time 530am with the same four friends for nearly a decade back when it was a golf course. Now, it’s just a cow pasture posing as a course that claims to be worth the same price as a real 70$ course like colts neck or one of the muni courses around here. I felt like I’d been victimized when I realized the whole course hadn’t been maintained once the entire summer to where I might as well have burned a 100 dollar bill after hitting my shag bag walking around an abandoned field somewhere. I demanded my money back and when the owner who happens to also runs the cash register told me to bugger off in a Scottish accent -I punched him in the face for being a thief.
It’s going downhill here...
Played this course less than 2 months ago prior to this time. Things are markedly worse. Greens are patchy at best, fairways are filled with divots- adjust your lie as you see fit. Tee boxes are a joke- they are making things up as they go. Crabgrass is everywhere on the course. And what’s this thing about hitting a ball in the rough and not being able to find it? So frustrating. My half decent shots in the rough should not lead to me loosing more money when I’ve already overpaid to play. There are patches of insane rough within close distance to reasonable rough. No consistency. This course used to be a reasonably high standard for a fair price, now it feels as if everyone knows the place is doomed and does nothing to push against it. I’ll likely play again with friends, screw around and have a few beers- this course is prime for that, but if i’m trying to have a serious round, not a chance. Hard pass.
Great layout poor conditions
not sure if its because it isn't peak season anymore but it seemed like it wasn't taken care of. The grass was very long in the tee boxes, fairways, and greens and it was very spotty on the greens as well.
Fair value
Well laid out course but needs some TLC some greens were good but most in poor conditions same for fairways tee boxes and bunkers
Overall fair value good practice round
So sad
Let me start by saying I love OO. The course offers a great layout, challenging holes and a signature par 5 with hole #7. Now the review...so sad to see what they have let the course become. It's an unmaintained mess. Weeds and grab grass as fairways. Greens that are loaded with bare spots and unwatered. Tee boxes are non existent with the amount of very tall weeds. The cost to play here is disproportionate with the quality of the course....way over priced.
Please invest in this course. It has so much potential.
No grounds keeping
The worst course I have ever played. Mini golf courses are kept in better condition than this. The layout is good but there are no fairways because no ones cuts the grass.
Terrible playing condition
Most tee boxes were under repair, but the temporary “tee boxes” were not mowed at all and mostly tall crabgrass. The fairways were almost all crabgrass, making it impossible to find even a good tee shot. Lost several balls that were in play and should have been easily found. Greens were in terrible shape, inconsistently cut, dried out to the point of cracking, and/or riddled with unrepaired divots. The grass that was cut was caked onto the cart path or piled up in the rough. Our first cart the battery died on the 8th hole and second cart had a broken windshield. Luckily the bar at the turn was open and staff was nice. Not worth $70 round.
Grand old course on last legs.
Have played this course for over 40 years and this is the worst I have ever seen it, Greens were not bad but tee boxes didn't exist, traps were full of weeds, and general condition was poor. I think the staff is doing their best to keep the course playable but there are not enough people playing and money coming in to let that happen. Nobody and I mean nobody was on the course. Saw about 6-8 players over 18 holes. Still a great course if you can ignore the conditions .
