Old Orchard Country Club

About
Opened in 1929, Old Orchard Country Club has a classic design with challenges that stand up to modern golf courses. Throughout the course, you'll see traces of the site's former use as a farm. Ancient apple trees from the original orchard frame many of the holes. The diverse layout will test you with a variety of different shots but the gently rolling terrain makes for an easy walk. Skill and strategy will be generously rewarded but it's not an overly punishing layout for the high handicapper. Old Orchard's greens play true and fast and they are often flanked with strategically positioned bunkers. A stream wanders through the golf course, coming into play on several holes. Golfers will face a tricky island green on the par-5 seventh hole as well as an almost-island green on the par-4 13th.

Not worth the money
The course is in terrible condition. Cart paths and bridges are in disrepair. The fairways are overgrown with weeds. The greens were in horrible condition. Many greens had bare patches. Most of them were covered in ball marks and divots. This used to be a nice course.
Dissapointing
The greens were in terrible shape. Although the landscape is beautiful the course was in very bad shape. Many Ts were just crab grass
We were told it is the last season-land was sold to a developer and new homes/condos are to be built
Very sad because with a lot of TLC this would be a great course. Especially since there is such a need in Monmouth County for more courses. It was definitely not worth the cost. No wonder there were only a couple cars when we showed up for our 10:30 time. 🙁
🤮
Sorry to hear it’s closing, explains the condition .
Old orchard
The course is probably the worst kept course in the state of NJ.. the putting greens are in horrible shape.. lose lots of balls.. find lots of balls.. course layout itself is great.. that’s why I keep coming back as is close to house and it has 18 holes.. but otherwise would not be playing this course!! It is what it is!!
You gotta play this at least once.
This is considered the worst course in New Jersey.
It is.
The greens are patchy, it’s overpriced and I can’t tell you the difference between the tee box, fairway or the rough. The cart paths remind me of hiking the Appalachian trail.
But it is FUN to play these conditions. Appreciate the course for what it is. Be grateful for when you do get to play a course with impeccable greens.
I had the time of my life experiencing it.
The course design is amazing, and I will absolutely to return if and when they rejuvenate it.
Wow
I think that they’re just waiting for a developer to come and buy that land. What a disgrace to charge that much for the condition of that course
Closing in September
It’s a shame the course is closing soon. This explains why the greens are not rolled and practically unputtable and the fairways are all rough and brown.
NEGLECTED TRASH
This course was in absolute awful condition. The fairways are rough, the greens are not greens. It was empty on a Friday morning and I realize why.
Did some research and found out that the course was sold to a developer years ago. They're trying to build condos on the property and havent been able to get approved. In the meantime they are operating the course just to pull some $ in.
If i paid $5 for this course it would be too much.
STAY AWAY
The fact that this place is still charging $70 is the most insane thing in the golf world. They clearly haven't done a single ounce of work to this place in years. Employees show up late, are not friendly, and have no respect for the game.
Bring a ton of balls
Course is not worth the 70$ they charge you to play. Cart died before we could get to the green on first hole. Had to push it back to clubhouse. Grass overgrown everywhere, no fairway on any of the holes. Greens were absolutely horrible. Very poorly kept. If it was 40$ with cart I would play again. But for 70$ I’m one and done here.
Feel a bit cheated.
Not sure if I'm more upset with GN or Old Orchard. To be honest, I knew this golf course was a dump. I've been there before so I knew everything about it was horrible. But a friend was in town, hes not a good golfer, and it was more about a feww beers and catching up. HOWEVER! I am a more than a little bit upset with GN! I booked a "hot deal" on Friday afternoon for $65 is for 3. The next morning I had a 4th that expressed interest in joining us, so I went back to the site to see if I could add them and noticed the "hot deal" that I bought for $65 was now $38!! WT It was less than 12 hrs apart. I feel taken advantage of. Anyway, this is supposed to be about the course. It's absolutely awful. It's almost like your playing at a construction site. FYI, all the bunkers are grass, and all the greens are dead with crabgrass coming up. We played hit the green, then pick up and take 2 for the putts.
I really feel like I deserve a refund, but know that will never happen. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
Horrible
Very very poor conditions. From the golf cart to the tee box fairways, sand traps and greens. Worst course I’ve ever played by far…. They just don’t take care of it. I was unaware of the conditions prior and paid $60 for the round. I would not play there again for free
Take you money elsewhere
Driving up you would think the place is abandoned. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are not take care of and have never been cut. Greens are full of dirt patches and dead grass. Fairways and the ruff is the same length. Avoid playing here it is not worth $70 it might be a $10 course.
Like a set from a horror movie
After using golf pass to sign up for 18 holes for a party of 4 with a 2 pm tee time, we were informed the course was closing at 4. When we asked for a refund, we were told no as golf pass had already taken our money.
We attempted to play but:
The carts either had no charge, we had to leave one in the middle of the first hole or; only steered right
The fairway, if you call them that, was weeds and dirt.
The greens unplayable. We didn’t putt as we didn’t want to destroy our clubs.
The sand traps were weed traps
Unkept and quite scary.
Due to this experience, will never use golf pass again due to the lack of refund issue.
