One of many scenic holes at Spring Meadow Photo submitted by Cory3302115 on 06/23/2014
course has changed
Spring meadow used to be in very bad condition but they have made a lot of progress with the fairways. Some of the greens are still sub par but they have done a great job considering they have no irrigation
public course with a lot of use but
It was a great weather day. Greens were not kept up as there was not much consideration for divot repair. Though play time was reasonable there was no enforcement or ranger to ensure "slower or inexperienced players" kept pace. other than that water stations were available and it was enjoyable.
Great time at Spring Meadow
Really enjoyed this course. Booked through GolfNow for around $40 a person (18 holes, cart included) for me, my dad and brother. Paired with a local single who had some knowledge of the course, which was very helpful. Played on Memorial Day weekend and thought course would be packed but we got out earlier than our tee time and finished 18 in a little over four hours (had a very slow group walking in front of us). Course was in great shape aside from a few tee boxes, which were a mess because of rain. Was able to reach the green on the elevated par-4 with my drive (after sailing my first ball into the woods of course). Lost a nice amount of balls that day but course sets up well for the intermediate golfer. A couple of really memorable holes with nice views. Greens moved fine, not too fast or slow. 100-yard par-3 was fun. Front nine is wide open and sets up for scoring, back nine gets a little more woodsy. Staff was friendly and little bar/restaurant next to clubhouse was very welcoming. Would like to play some of the other nearby courses but wouldn't hesitate to come back to Spring Meadow, especially with the GolfNow deals.
Staff
It seems like the staff doesn't appreciate your business if you come with a GolfNow coupon, they acted like you were beneath them. We went to the front desk at 11:30 for our 12:05 prepaid tee time (the desk was clear and no one was waiting) , we were told to come back in about a half hour ???? 12 o'clock??? Not much time to load up. When we returned, at 11:55 the cart key was thrown across the desk at us and were told to start whenever !
layout
Interesting holes but the layout is dangerous, double back into shooting groups !
good test
Course is in very good condition.. greens are consistent (can't say this about every course), the rough reasonable (not too long, but present a challenge if you are in it), and with the exception of a real bad drainage problem on the 18th, the fairways are in decent condition. I was also pleasantly surprised by the pace of play yesterday, considering the beautiful weather; we finished in under 4 hours (unusual for central New Jersey courses).
Poor fairways
Not in great shape. There are many tight lies in the middle of the fairways. Around the greens not any better. For the $$ I guess it's worth it.
Average course
Course conditions were decent for March, but too many players slowed the pace. Carts should be required on days that are heavily booked.
Unhappy customer
Course was in terrible shape. Fairways were chewed up on almost every hole. Also they let out a 5 some ahead of us which made our round take forever. We waited on every single hole. It also cost us $3 more a person than the booking said. There were no rangers on sight all day to get the pace of play faster.
Coures was in good shape
!st time playing here. Coures was in good shape and fun to play will play again here
Great Place
Many good holes mixed between par 3 to par 5
Great Course to practices turning shots
Not to many Water hazards to work around
Great layout, needs better upkeep.
Overall for a $15 hot deal, this course was well worth it but I wouldn't pay more than $30 to play it. I believe they charge close to $60 regularly. The course has a great layout with some notable holes with elevated tee boxes and driveable par 4s. Most of the greens were in good condition but each hole had a different level of maintenance. Not sure if the management is working on improvement or some holes weren't being taken care of. The course layout has some potential they just need to improve the conditions and it would be a gem.
Decent Round
Four of us played a round this past Saturday for a pals birthday. The course was in decent shape for being so late and we enjoyed it but we had one real issue - the staff person in the clubhouse was pretty rude. We showed fairly early (about 25 min or so before our tee time) and noticed there was ZERO back up. We stated we were early and she bluntly said, "come back at 2". When inquiring why we couldn't just get an early start we were told, "We don't allow golfnow specials out any time BUT the scheduled tee time." No sorry or tactful explanation. Felt like because we booked through GN and didn't pay the full $70 (which the course is NOT worth btw) we were taking money out of her pocket. I don't know, maybe they had a bad day. Overall, the experience was fine and the course is worth it for below $40.
good price
good price but needs work in the fairways. greens were just being aerated so in a couple weeks greens should be great
this course is a nice test of ur skills
the problem i had was there was no starter on the first tee people just teed off when they felt like it and later at the sixth hole here coms the ranger say the course is all backed up behind well maybe if they started at the correct interval they would not have that duh and there is a problem with holes and tees being so close and most of the golfers dont give a hoot they just yell and talk all arround the course (not much edicate there) would be a pleasure without some of the idiots.
This course is not kept well.
The fairways and greens were atrocious. This used to be such a great course and it is clear that management is not investing resources into the upkeep and maintenance of this course.
Most Greens well kept
Staff friendly, they are constantly improving course if you compare ti to two years ago its like night and day. They have a lot of play and it shows on tees they could use improvement but all in all especially with discounted price I'd recommend to a friend.
Needs work, but has potential. Staff friendly and they try.
Negatives::The fairways and tee boxes are filled with crabgrass and bare spots. The cart paths are hard to find and finding the next hole can be a bit of a task. If the cart paths were visible and easy to find the grass would take a lot less abuse. If you played on the weekend I can see this course being a cluster-mess. The grass areas around tee boxes and greens need to be roped off and new grass planted.
Positives:: Besides the first hole the greens were actually in pretty good shape. The course is fairly easy and very wide open, if your drive is bad you can still hit your second shot off of adjacent fairways. Staff was friendly. Played on a gloomy/overcast weekday so the pace of play was fast.
To be honest the nicest looking hole on the course is the 19th hole. I would play again at a golfnow discount. 25$ or less is about right for this.
Course needs upkeep
From what I understand this used to be a course in nice shape, but whatever happened over the latter part of this summer needs to be fixed because it is rougher than Colonial Terrace in Wanamassa right now, and that is not a good thing.
Faster
Rangers think it is Liberty National... We played about 2hr 10 min front nine... Ranger told us we were playing to slow pick up the pace...we explained we were waiting for the group in front... To which he replied "hit into them... Don't wait... We played a 4.5 hour rd on a Sunday morning at a public course. How much faster can a foursome play... I will not be back!!!
