Hillsborough Country Club

About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

Good Bang for the buck
Always could be a little improved but much better than before. Will go back for sure.
Interesting Layout, Poor Conditions
Cheap round, but you get what you pay for, tee boxes were mangled, and bunkers, if you can even call them that, are unplayable.
Expensive w/ a side of bad upkeep
Over priced and bad upkeep mixed in with very slow play. The course would be okay if there was any good upkeep whatsoever. Poor greens, crappy over grown rough. Course needs better upkeep.
What happened?
This was always one of my favorite tracks in NJ but I won’t be returning. Greens are always in good shape but the rest of the course has really gone downhill. Tee boxes are in bad shape and bunkers are unplayable. Rough needs to be trimmed and fringes and green side areas need to be manicured. Very disappointed.
Good shape
Hadn’t played Hillsborough in a couple of years
Course was in good shape
The greens were a bit slow but tee boxes and fairways were fine
Storms shortened the round but we will be back
Never again
First time playing this course, got a decent rate online so thought I’d give it a shot. Course was in nice shape, greens were well maintained and leaves were managed which is nice for fall golf. Upon arriving at the course I was berated by the gentleman in the pro shop for attempting to put a few beers in my bag. Pretty sure guy was stalking me from his office window as I took my bag out of my car. Yelled something about his “no beer” sign and their liquor license. Fine, no problem, I’ll follow the rules. Keep in mind it was freezing and nobody was out there on this day. You would think they’d be happy to have 4 customers. NOPE. At the turn at 9 the bar/restaurant was empty, no staff. After 18 the shop was closed, locked, restaurant off limits. No bathrooms, no food, nothing. And it was 4:30! Stalk me, yell at me, then lock up the place when we’re still on the course. Cool move golf shop guy. Never again.
Hillsborough Country Club - not a country club
Not worth $60. Club house was probably a chicken coop. Tee boxes chewed up. Greens were ok. Golf carts are probably 50 years old, had to pump the gas pedal several times to get it to work each time. Seems like a converted farm and they forced in 18 holes with limited thought. I see this place closing soon, its hurting for sure. One and done course, you move on and don't return.
Tilted
First time playing here and course was in decent condition for this time of year, although some tee boxes and greens need some care.
Layout is quite challenging at times with too many trees (like most courses of its era) and no long string of par 4-s like a lot of courses. The funniest thing I experienced was wet/soft areas where I wouldn't expect them, like on slopes near the top of ridges. Go figure.
The greens were fast downhill and very slow uphill, and while there wasn't much undulation, there were ridges that were steeper than they appear and a lot of natural slope. Some bunkers were unplayable, and the course is also very poorly marked and, hence, touch for first-time players like me. And the fairways needed a cutting.
It's fine for a casual social round, with about 8 solid holes, 4 OK holes, and 6 dogs.
