Mattawang Golf Club
About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Solid
Considering its late October , all good at M
Pace of play ? It happens. Course was not crowded.
My two some caught up to a slow 4 some
A single behind us then joined us. A few holes later another single joined us
Our now 4 some still had some waiting
It was a nice fall day so no major issue but many times that 4 some ahead of us could have / should have offered to play through .
Never saw a ranger , of course
Fall Golf
The course was in great condition. The tea boxes were receded and grew nicely. The greens were excellent condition and the sand was really new, light and fluffy. Not what I am used seeing this time of the year. It was challenging.
Pleasantly Surprised
Hadn't played here in over 20 years, wasn't expecting much. Conditions were much better than I expected, layout is pretty darn good. Greens a little too slow, but playing on a Monday late morning on a Hot Deal had the course for ourselves. Going back in a couple days.
Gorgeous greens
Fairways dry, to be expected BUT greens were exceptional
What happened?
I use to play here a few times a year. Was never like top shelf but always worth the trip. I paid $65 for the round with cart. Not a terrible price and was thinking great value from my past experiences. Man I was wrong. Fairways beat the heck, many of the greens had so many rough spots. My buddies and I couldn’t believe how much it has changed.
The one positive was the course was wide open and our foursome finished in 3hrs. That alone may be good enough for another shot next season.
Nice layout
First time playing this course, interesting layout and a good mix of scoring and challenging holes! A 223 yd par 3 and Home 17 being ALMOST driveable for me, made for some fun choices. It’s late in the season so some of the fairways were a little burned out and patchy (we haven’t had enough rain!), but the greens were in decent shape and rolled pretty true despite being sanded.
Pace got a little slow on the back 9, but that’s to be expected for a Saturday morning.
Would love to come back here earlier in the season and maybe during the week when it’s less crowded!
Hidden Gem
This course presents a challenge to the most skilled player and is open enough to make the game fun for a beginner. I am surprised how easy it is to get a tee time most days. I would recommend Mattawang to any one who wants to play a fun round of golf.
Getting worst
It used to be considered course but i played today and will never come back as long as they will improve on fairway and tee box
Blue and white tee box was not bad but lady’s tee box is never flat (complaint from wife)
Fairways is worst, many dried grass
Green is very slow
Need more course management
Not worth $80 its more like county golf course around $40
Layout is good
Good layout but…
Good layout with some interesting holes BUT uneven tee boxes and a lot of the greens had bare patches.
Needs some work
Greens surprisingly were in good shape. Too many fairways had burned out patches, and the sand traps were packed with hard sand,
Pace of play was fine
Great time
Always a great place to play, the staff is awesome and the track is great. Play there as much as I can
good old style layout
with lack of rain, rough were pretty beat up and dry. I'm sure once course receive rain, it will fill in.
not a fun track
course was fine, probably max $40 round with a cart.. greens were ok, moved fast
