Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

Hillsborough never disappoints
Course is always fun. A lot of tight fairways makes it challenging.
Tough Greens
This is a short and tight parkland course with some really neat elevation changes. This is a challenging layout and the greens are quite small and undulated. This course will challenge your ball striking and short game. It was a in very good shape.
Fast greens and side hill lies
Try to stay below the hole as many a green will reward a good approach shot with a chip from off the green. Important to stay below the hole. With that being said a very pleasant afternoon of golf with stunning views of the surrounding valley.
Nice Day
Nice day to play. This time of year if your off the fairway you're in the leaves. Greens were very fast my type. Finished play in four hours never had to wait,
Good value
Had a nice day of golf at a fast pace. Challenging greens . Despite the leaves falling, maintenance crew did a great job removing them.
Great Greens
Course has an excellent layout and great greens. They are in great shape but fast. Need to land the ball short of the green or else it will roll. With the weather being dry the fairways were a little hard but good for extra roll. Unfortunately sometimes due to the slope of the course the ball would roll where you didn't want it to go. Short course but tough especially the back nine/
Fun/Challenging Course, Extremely Friendly Staff Team
My wife and I played 180 rounds in 2018, from coast to coast, and Hillsborough remains one of our favorite "go to" courses.
The staff, Drew and Bobby, are fun, knowledgeable, and very focused on the satisfaction of the golfers.
The pace of play is always excellent, last week we finished a round, while playing multiple balls, in 2:45. Like many local courses, the weather has taken a small toll on Hillsborough, but it is still far better condition than most of the local courses we play.
The layout is challenging, with several side sloping fairways ,elevation changes, doglegs,, and many holes requiring course knowledge to plan the right shot. Every hole is unique and requires thoughtful play to get even a par.
Many of the greens are daunting, and if the greenskeeper had a bad night, it is very possible to hit a four foot putt off of the green, then down a hill, for a 30 yrd return chip shot.
Hillsborough is a course that needs to be played many times before a golfer really understands it. While it is a short course, the layout favors accuracy and course management overr distance in order to score even reasonably well.
I highly recommend Hillsborough to golfers of all levels. It is fun, the staff is great, and it will make you want to come back and try it again, and again. It is an excellent value and should be supported by all.
Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Fairways not in great shape but mostly due to weather. Greens were great just very fast.
Cow pasture with fast greens
Was in the area so we decided to play this course. Meandering thru corn fields to get there was the tip off. The first sign you see at the "clubhouse" is "NO COOLERS, NO BYOB" in very large caps. No beverage cart roaming the coarse, and bottled water on only 2 holes. I will not venture out on a summer day and rely on the course to keep me hydrated!
Course conditions:
GREENS: good shape, very fast, unfair pin positions on at least 6 holes.
FAIRWAYS: tattered, mixed grasses, bare in many areas.
TEES: decent shape. some locations were head scratchers.
LAYOUT: why the course designer would pick this tract (the side of a mountain) is beyond me.
It was really not even worth the "deal" price of $26 with cart. Will not come back here again, and will only recommend it to friends I have a beef with :-)
Greens to go
Hillsborough golf course is a nice course and the staff is very friendly. I like their layout but the course is tough even though it’s short. The greens are fast so when you approach them, hit it short so they run up onto the greens. The tee boxes and some of the fairways are not in great shape but probably due to the crazy weather we had during the summer days. Their greens are great and good to go as long as golfers fix their divots. Good price through golf now.
