Nothing special, but worth a visiting occasionally
The greens were aerated and top-dressed. I'd expect them to be ready in about two weeks.
The rough was deep and penalizing, but the fairways are wide enough to warrant penalizing rough. Most bunkers have decent sand.
There are a few challenging holes mixed in with several easy holes. The par fives are reachable for longer players (even from the tips).
The fairways were a little shaggy.
The tee boxes need work and leveling. There are several bare spots, the grass is too long and it is often difficult to find a flat spot.
The greens did not have any obvious issues and I would expect them to be in good shape after healing from aeration (assuming they roll and cut them low).
Overall good experience
Greens were in very good shape.. The course is not perfectly manicured but not many (public courses) are around here (except for the Monmouth County Courses which are impossible to get on - on weekends).
I would rather play here than - where you feel welcome and the pace is excellent (always under 4hours) compared to Monmouth County courses where everyone is disgusted and it takes 5 hours to get a round in.
So much potential
Suneagles has amazing potential. Truly a great layout. Unfortunately the fairways were not in good condition and the tee boxes needed to be cut. The good news is that the greens were in good shape and although the were a little slow, they did roll true. Also, the bunkers are many, deep, and long - but they also need to be in better condition. Overall the course is worth coming back to and hopefully over time improvements will continue to be made.
Looking Up
I have played SunEagles about a dozen times. I never had the opportunity to play it when it was Military when I heard it was in great shape. The past couple of years conditions where questionable but new owners have taken it over recently and things are changing. The fairways were in the best Condition I've seen there in awhile. The greens were in great shape. It's going to take a while to bring this gem back to it's pristine condition but it's worth playing this challenging course , especially with the great greens fee provided from Golfnow.
Great Time
No one in front of us and with the deal I got at golf now you couldn't ask for a better Day!! Love golf now.com.
Nice Day and A Real Bargain
The course definitely isn't worth everyday prices....we paid $17 so it was a bargain for sure... the course was in fair condition except for the greens...the greens were absolutely perfect !!! Our tee time was 12:07 sunday and there was hardly anyone on the course...took 2 of us 3 hours to play...the course layout is interesting with elevations, water hazards, some very deep bunkers, varying doglegs, and 2 island par 3's... there are some easy holes and a few very difficult holes(#'s 4,6,14,15, and 17)....course could be a real winner with improved groundskeeping...there's a nice bar separate from the clubhouse.
Decent course improvments needed
this course has the chance to be much better with new ownership and some TLC ,,,,not a bad layout has great potential but secondary cuts , traps and several fairways have some drainage issues . cart paths need upgrade. I think if they lowered prices they would get a ton of more people playing
Thanks golf now
For having this course. Very affordable round and convenient to where we were vacationing.
Sun Eagle Golf Course
It was in better condition than I expected. The normal problems 10 Fairway soggy 11 Fairway Sacchi water in the par three bunkers . The greens were a little slow but will pretty good and in good shape.
Worst Golf Experience
I have played this course three times and I always mistakenly come back to it because it is close to where I live. The course is always dried out and the greens are like fairways. Last week I left work a bit early and got to the course at 6 planning on getting a quick 9 in. There was an event going on and I had to park far away and got to the club house a few minutes after 6. The pro greeted me rudely at the door and informed me they close at 6. WHAT?!?!?!?! It was light at until 8:30 and I could have easily played 9 in that time (I could have teed off at 7 PM and still finished). There website does not have any hours posted. Again this is not a one time event. Every time i have played this course i have left disappointed, and now I will never be returning.
Challenging Course
Suneagles is a very good golfing challenge w/ variations on many of the holes. They haven't had a decent Golf Now price in sometime but offered a great value yesterday, so me & my golfing buddy jumped on the Golf Now Hot Deal.
Rough rough
I'm a hacker and I know it. I generally shoot around 88 to 92, but after parring the first hole I proceeded to shoot a 99. On most holes the rough was extremely deep, so deep in fact that I lost 3 balls in it. All 3 should have been found easily.
Pace of play for such a beautiful Sunday afternoon was phenomenal until we caught up to the foursome ahead of us on the 13th. We were only a twosome and 3 of the 4 in the group ahead of us did not move well. I have no problem with that, my mom still golfs at 82 and I hope that I am still playing at that age, but they should have waved us up. There is no ranger out on the course to take care of this. That said, because we flew through the first 12 holes, we still finished up in a little over 4 hours. So I really can't complain.
The course was in decent shape with the exception of a couple of greens and a couple of tee boxes, but that is nitpicking. It's not a long course.....my only advice is to try to stay out of the rough.
Condition
The course was very wet .. you could stock the bunkers with fish - that's how much water was in them . Price should not have been $50 plus dollars
Tilinghasr layout
14-18 on this course are one of the best stretches around. There's a pub on site. Course condition are average, but it was March. I hope management maintains the course as it could be, and has been, a "diamond in the rough".
Winter Rules
This is a modest Tillinghast design. The conditions were good for this time or year. I enjoy the layout with some interesting holes. #6 a long par 4 with the green fronted by a stream. #7 a short par 3 over water. #10 is a lay up hole par 4. And #17 par 3 which in the old days was an island green
Average layout with nice freens
Golf played through abandoned military homes is a little depressing. Worth a golfnow price, enjoyed the day. Course in good condition e cost the. Inkers haven't been raked in a while. It is Nov so that is to be expected.
