The approach shot over water on #10 Photo submitted by Michael4721223 on 11/27/2017
Winter Rules
This is a modest Tillinghast design. The conditions were good for this time or year. I enjoy the layout with some interesting holes. #6 a long par 4 with the green fronted by a stream. #7 a short par 3 over water. #10 is a lay up hole par 4. And #17 par 3 which in the old days was an island green
Average layout with nice freens
Golf played through abandoned military homes is a little depressing. Worth a golfnow price, enjoyed the day. Course in good condition e cost the. Inkers haven't been raked in a while. It is Nov so that is to be expected.
SunEagle
Great value and very convenient.
Paid $21 per golfer to walk 18 holes in late afternoon.
The bar was closed at 4:30
Good course with some challenging holes.Conditions were good considering the hot weather
Worst conditions
I can't believe any management company would let a course get in this bad of shape. Some holes you couldn't tell the difference between the fairway and the rough with the amount of crabgrass. Answer from staff was that the people taking care of the course are landscapers and that the course is in better shape than last year (scary). On a positive note the greens are ok but for the price I can play a lot of other courses in better shape. What a shame that they have let this course get in this condition as it looks like a total lack of pride and caring by this company. Not sure why FEMERA is not ensuring that upkeep is being done as it is supposed to go up for bid soon.
You get what you pay for, and maybe even less than that
There was more crab grass in the fairway than in the rough. Tee boxes were mix of mud and weeds. Greens were below average. On half of the holes there was no distinct visible difference between the fairway and the rough. Thankfully the pace was above average. Oh and don't hit into a bunker - there may be 1-2 inches (2 if you're lucky) of loose sand in them with a mix of mud and clay underneath.
Hi there, my name is Liz and I work with the team at Suneagles. Wanted to touch base with you because we are so sorry you did not have the best experience at Suneagles recently. We have experienced incredibly trying conditions this past July and August resulting in less than favorable playing conditions. The 50+ year irrigation system has challenged us as well. And pairing all of that with the high heat and humidity has produced sever strains of goose grass and Klylinga. These are different strains then crab grass but nevertheless, just as annoying. Know, that our crew is lead by our Superintendent with over 30 years of experience. Our crew is well experienced and professional. We have had a tough time staying ahead of these conditions. The recent aeration and impending growth season will go a long way to restore the course to optimal playing conditions. We thank you for your input and trust that you will visit in the future with a different experience.
Staff/Starter
Staff should treat guest with respect. Starter is not that accommodating.
Good course, poor maintenance
This could be a really great course and I'm sure at one point it once was. For $66 it is not worth the price at all, I will say that the greens are in very good shape but the fairways and pretty much everything else is in poor shape. If this course was $30-$45 I would play here much more because it's not THAT bad and I really did like the layout. A lot of tough but fun and challenging holes. But just not worth the price of playing at a county course.
First timer
First time at course. Very forgiving, though long par 4's. Rough was a bit long, some fairways under repair. Tee boxes and greens need some weeding. Having said all that, will definitely return to course.
Long in the tooth but fast play and good value
Hadn't played here in perhaps 20 years so I booked a round for nostalgia purposes. All the trees and native growth plants are running rampant and could use some real pruning back. It seems that lightning strikes are the only form of maintenance done on the trees. The first few holes on the back were soaked and borderline unplayable. From the tips there are some TOUGH par 3s to play so it does challenge golfers. We played right after an outing finished so it was a nice 3 hour round! Wahoo!
Great place
Great layout challenging greens very friendly staff and members. Got paired up with a member that was very knowledgeable about course and how to play each hole. Definitely going back to play again
hit em straight
not an overly difficult course....just need to hit your fairway irons straight. The long par5 15th is a great challenge....keep your drive to the right side of the fairway!
Average
Played here few times in a past. Average condition with poor bunkers and slow greens. Not worth for full price for green fee. This day I played, starter must have been in grumpy mood...no so friendly. He got upset my tee time wasn't on his list even though pro-shop gave me a receipt based on confirmed GolfNow tee time reservation. Not my fault he didn't me on his list. He gave me an attitude after....course was pretty empty and I don't know what was his issue.
suneagles
course in decent shape except the traps were in poor condition.
Good course
This is a good layout with a great amount of variation. I enjoyed the course and look forward to playing again. Greens are a little bumpy due to recent aeration, but nothing to deter me from playing again soon.
On a side note... The only downside I really found is the elder generation of players who are quite rude. Pace of play fell to a hole behind and my foursome was only a 1/4 hole behind (basically playing on the backs of the group ahead before we hit a long par 5) and once we hit the par three the two elderly groups behind us told us about the time behind and with no courtesy told us to speed up. No Witty banter, no hello, please, or thank you. Last time I checked this was a gentlemens game. Basically the pace of play was slower thank normal and we did not see a ranger all day. This didn't bother my 4some as we were there to enjoy the day, but the seniors behind us were truly rude and extremely annoyed at the pace. Beware the elderly players as they are a plenty and for some reason have shown themselves to be extremely rude.
Eh
Staff was really cool. Pro shop guys were nice along with the starter. Unfortunately the course was not in good shape. Bunkers were really wet, some fringes were poorly maintained. Greens were also kinda in poor shape, putts were bouncing like crazy.
Looks like it used to be a really nice course, but once the fort closed it looks like they started to care less.
I would rather play an hour away at twisted dunes for the price I paid for SE. Or anywhere else.
Average right now
Course was in good shape with the exception of the greens. They are still bumpy from their aeration. If you like smooth greens I'd wait a couple weeks before you golf there. Otherwise, hit your putts harder and beware of inconsistent roll. Will be back in a few weeks.
Golf on May 14
Staff very friendly, unfortunately they did not tell me that the greens were aerated and very difficult to putt. Otherwise it was a nice track to play golf with my wife.
SunEagles at Fort Monmouth
Nice course in good shape early spring round. First time playing this course when we first arrived there were two employees in the bag drop area they were talking to each other but did not greet us and once we found our way to the parking lot we had to ask them where to check in. Then when we came out from the pro shop we loaded the bags on our cart and I asked my buddy if there was a score card on the cart he said no and then one of these 2 employees finally paid I bit of attention that we were there and that we might need some assistance with regard to the score card and where the first tee was located. Once on the course we enjoyed the lay out and the conditions. Pace was very good we finished our round in about 3:30 hours. The only difficulty we had was on the 6th hole the stone hole markers had the 6th marked as the 9th we figured it out and then the 7th is across the driveway but does not have any signs to tell first timers where it is located. Others holes that are easier to locate do have signs to point you on the right direction? Over all the course is nicely laided out the greens are very nice and the slope of the greens are challenging and interesting. We enjoyed our round and would certainly return for future rounds and would refer friends to play here.
Tough course...
Played here several times...course was in great shape Wednesday.
Not an easy course, challenging greens for sure...
