Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Clubview/Valleyview Course
About
The Clubview nine, which opened in 1963, is the original course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, located in northwest New Jersey, approximately one hour from New York City. Offering a traditional mix of par 3s, par 4s and par 5s, accuracy is key on the Byron Phoebus-designed course. The Clubview nine closes with two very demanding holes, the long par-4 eighth, with an approach shot over water, and the par-3 ninth, which is surrounded by water.

Farmstead, a Great Place to Enjoy the Game
I would give Farmstead an even higher rating, but they don’t have a range. This is one of the nicest public courses in northern NJ.
Farmstead Vally
We visited Farmstead for the 1st time The valley course was the only on of the 3. Courses that had availability, so we tried it. It was great. The only complaint was that they sent 2 singles out begins our threesome and we felt a not rushed. Otherwise the. Purse was great, the.food at the clubhouse was great and the staff was very pleasant. We are returning again next week to try the other 2 courses
Outings are more important than regular local players
Have been playing here over 30 years, a dozen times each year. Staff is normally professional. Never had an issue before.
Apparently a league was sent before us. We were told they are would not be a problem. All the holes had foursomes except the hole in front of us. There were 4 carts, not 2, and 6 players, not 4. The 'sixsome' should have been playing best ball. They were not. The groups behind us were yelling at us.
We told the Ranger there was a group of 6 in front of us and he said "Oh, there is an outing" We said "So. There should not be more than 4 players. He said "But its an outing". He asked us if 'we' wanted him to tell Scott. We said whatever it takes. The group behind us was complaining about slow play as well, they had called into the club house by phone.
I called the clubhouse a day later. They told me that Scott would call me back. He never did. And, they never offered an apology or rain check.
There are plenty of other courses in the area that would be happy to have my money. I'll donate to them.
Excellent layout, challenging greens
Everything was great, pace, amenities, conditions. My only complaint is that the tee boxes on almost every hole were crowned.. there were not many level places to tee off from on the majority of the holes.
Don't forget to eat your Leafy Greens
I understand it's the beginning of a colder season and some leaves are falling from the trees (it was Sept 13 when I played) - however, the greens were covered in leaves and causing a ton of obstructions for putting. I don't know if it was because I was the first one on the course (7am tee time) and grounds crew hadn't gotten to them yet or if this is just normal for them. Everything else was pretty great though. I'll definitely be coming back for more rounds!
Poor staff and course management
Although I have played this course several times, and used to be one of my favorites, I was recently discouraged from ever playing again!
The reservation I made through Golfnow charged me 2.49 to hold the 7:10 Tee-Time I had to play last week.
When I arrived at the course, the starter and clubhouse manager informed me of a fog delay. I mentioned that I could not wait and left, expecting to lose only 2.49 convenience fee. There were 4 other people waiting to play and the parking lot was empty.
To my surprise, when I returned home, I was charged for the full $54! I had only intended to walk nine holes, and they charged me for a full 18 with a cart!
I called the course and they assured me the manager would call me back, but they did not even have the courtesy.
I remember when golf was a gentleman's game, dictated by honor and courtesy, I gues Farmstead forgot that. Too bad, I will surely steer my friends away from a course that values money over customer service.
Nice bang for your golf buck
Great little course. Not difficult but not easy. Water doesn’t really come into play except in a few holes. Good experience every time I play here
