Darlington Oct 2017
I have been waiting for the opportunity to play Darlington again as I played it when it first opened. This county course is kept in excellent condition. I walked the course today and it wasn't as hilly as I remembered it. When we started our round it was raining for the first 3 holes so the sand traps were compacted but contained plenty of sand. Greens, tee boxes and fairways are kept like a private course.
The only drawback is the clubhouse which is in the same shape as it was in 1979. The inside is a gutted building with a counter and cash register. The side room has 2 vending machines and that's it. I feel bad for the employees here as its depressing.
So when you golf here, bring your own food, beverage and golf supplies and enjoy the round!

I hadn't played the course in two years. It was in excellent condition. The greens ran fair, though people don't repair their ball marks. It was a lot longer than I had remembered but would definitely play it again. We were challenged on every hole.
Surprised there is no snack stand, only vending machines.
Bergen County's Best Public
This is the course I frequent most and upon the 1st time I played, I was pleasantly surprised. From the back tees, this course will provide a challenge as it is fairly long off the tees. There are no real houses on the course, so you feel like you're playing by yourself in the late season. Course is extremely well maintained for a muni course and I would recommend this for anyone to play when it's not peak hours...I've heard it gets pretty slow in the Summer though.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Darlington Golf Course.
Darlington
Good overall course. Nice driving range and practice facility. Greens are always in good conditions and fairways are above average. Good challenging course.
A very good county course
This is the toughest and best Bergen County course. There is nothing particularly hard about the course, but you must play well to score well. The course starts with an easy, straight par 5 which gives you a good chance at birdie. The par 3 second is harder than it looks, seeming to play a 1/2 club longer than it appears. The par 4 third is an easy driving hole with a beautifully framed green that you don't want to be above the hole. #4 is a straightforward hole, but 4 is still a good score. The par 3 5th is equally straightforward. The fun begins on 6, an uphill dogleg left with a fairway canting left to right. an uphill approach. The 7th is shorter, but easy to drive through the fairway right. your approach must be aimed short and left of the flag. the 10th, again is not an intimidating hole, but a par is a real good score. the par 5 11th is a birdie possibility. as is the par 5 14th. The best hole on the course might be 17. This is a dog leg right that was greatly improved with the redesign. A beautiful green complex. 18 is a par 4 right in front of your. the aesthetics are hurt by the driving range nets, but this is a long uphill difficult hole. A difficult course if you are not sharp, but very playable. A perfect combination for a muni.
Excellent
One of the top county courses in NJ. Some holes are challenging. Very few are boring. Greens are good but somewhat bumpy. Everyone was very nice. Day was beautiful. Definitely will return.
Not a good value for out of county players
A decent layout but the greens are truly horrible. Several memorable holes but most are so-so. They make it hard to shoot a low score by making the fairways about as narrow as Kate Upton's waistline. The rough comes into play even if you drive the ball well. Overall not a good value for out of county players especially is you intend to ride (I paid $62 yikes!!). Even if you were sharing a cart, the conditions and slow speed of the greens make this course not very enjoyable.
Great course; great price; screwed up tee time.
Course was great since the recent renovations. The price is what it should be. Unfortunately, because Darlington was new to GolfNow, their systems were not fully up-to-date. I booked a 3:00 pm tee time, but upon arrival they said it was for 3:30, though my confirmation clearly showed 3:00 pm. Fortunately, we were still able to complete 18. Thankfully it's June and the days are long.
Fine course
The course was in good shape but the staff was not helpful or friendly.
Tree lined and long from back tees!
Greens, bunker conditions vary so check with course, overall a tough test from back tees. Nice to start hole #1 w par5. #6 is uphill dogleg left. Great from back tee. Number 9 will test big hitters with 450+ par4. #10 has a new green, now dogleg left approach to par 5 double tiered green. 17 is dogleg right and long from back tee.
Great hole! 18 is straight away long from back to well bunkered green. Much easier course from white tees! Make your birdies early, then hold on for 6 thru 12. A lot of money has gone into improvements and greenskeeper is excellent, though sometimes constrained by county budget shortfalls. Overall 3 1/2 stars.
