Muni really?
I was really impressed with the condition of this course, Tee to green . Definite replay.. if there was one knock, it was the way fairways were cut on some holes, rough was long and difficult. Large greens not what I am used to. Nice layout..

Terrific course. Challenging holes with large greens. Conditions were excellent. Sand filled greens with reasonable rough. New carts. Great deal.

Course is in good condition
Course is in very good condition, Considering the heat wave and lack of rain in the area.. Rough and greens need to be cut more often, though.

First Time
Upon driving up and seeing the Clubhouse and the parking lot, I was surprised at how run down everything seemed. I was pleasantly surprised at the course though and I really don't care about the amenities. This is a nice track with some interesting and challenging holes meandering through marshes and forests. The greens were running at about 8 and were in good condition considering no one was fixing their ball marks. I would definitely play there again.

No carts, not posted on website
I’ve played this course over a hundred times having grown up in Bergen county. Since NJ courses reopened during the pandemic, I’ve played a number of Essex county courses. Each time I book a round though golf now there’s a clear option to walk or ride, or a disclaimer that the option gets settled at the course. Before I booked this round at Darlington, my first here in several years, I checked the weather and we were slated for a 90 degree day, so I checked the Darlington website for any disclaimer on cart restrictions. Their website clearly states their driving range is closed, along with the clubhouse and concessions, but no word about carts. Upon arriving to the course, there were a number of paper signs taped to the windows of the clubhouse stating their walking only policy. The staff, upon my inquiry as to how anyone was supposed to know about the cart restrictions in advance of showing up, could barely qualify an answer amidst their disinterest in engaging me at all. I get the times are complicated, but the lack of communication on this is unacceptable, and frankly the interactions with the staff are par for the course, per my experience. Tends to feel like I’m doing them a favor by playing there. No longer.

Fairways and greens were the best at this course in a long time.
