Course is hurting
This course is hurting. 1/3 of the holes are unplayable and the stretched out between the front and back 9. Holes 3, 5, 14, 15, 16, & 17. Tee boxes and Fairwaya are barren. Greens look like a hail storm pellet them.
Clubhouse is still being repaired going on year 6.
Save your money. The rates that are being charged a4e absorb for the condition of the course. 22 dollars for a cart you can't drive on 60% of the course.
It's a shame because this could be a great course.
Course conditions
Back 9 is in horrible shape and Holes 14-16 are essentially unplayable in various spots. They probably should just close the back 9 for the season to make the necessary repairs…
Not anything you don’t know.
The course condition is not the best which I can see is being worked on w several holes. Get people to repair their ball marks. Value was not very good. Paid $60+ $40 would have been the correct price w conditions taken into account.
Waste of money
Greens were terrible, fairways were torn up and the clubhouse was falling apart. Won’t catch me here again until they get this place cleaned up or get taken over by new owners. Don't waste your time or money unless you want to use the pitch and putt course.
Terrible condition
The back nine was in terrible shape frankly is criminal to charge the full price to play in this golf course. The starter was terrible and unfriendly.
Dried
While I had expected wet conditions due to course being below sea level with rain the day before, I was suprised that the first 12 holes were in great shape, disappointed with holes 13,14 and 15 the holes were in such poor condition, I was saddened by it, hopefully there will be a fix on this condition in the future.
Lots of work being done to upgrade clubhouse, course needs work
Review is based on the front 9 as the back 9 was closed this day due to flooding. The course has a nice layout but the conditions of the fairways and greens aren’t great. Considering the price for a round I would expect better.
They appear to be in the middle of an upgrade to the clubhouse and other facilities, which look great. However, it is a shame the course isn’t getting similar investment as it has a lot of potential
Issues!
The front 9 was in decent shape. Greens are a little beat up but this is due to the laziness and inconsideration of the old geezers that play here. They are either too ignorant or just too lazy to repair their ball marks. The back 9 is a swampy mess that is pretty much unplayable 14 through 17. Maybe Kemper should worry a bit less about the clubhouse (which is being redone for the 2nd time in 7 years due to poor craftsmanship and haste) and take up the 15 million + dollar drainage project to make the course playable. I will not be playing here again any time soon and will warn everyone I know about the conditions. Shame as I live in Scotch Plains.
Course needs some TLC
Layout is great. Overall course in ok conditions. Back 9 is like a swamp. Having drainage issues. Paid $72 with a cart. Should be $40 max, in those conditions. Restaurant still under construction. Bring lunch.
Ashbrook GC
Fortunately for union county golfers you can sometimes get a tee time at Ashbrook. Staff is usually very helpful. Joined 2 other good golfers. Clubhouse is being repaired. Course is in average condition.
PS Union county needs more another 1 or 2 golf courses. They closed Oak Ridge years ago and now it is difficult to get a decent tee times.
Tee times are taken up by people with 14 day passes that are no longer available --also 1 passholder can reserve for 4.
Waste of money
It rained and they closed the course after 4 holes offeeed no refund or rain check. Mind you we were willing to wait it out or walk. Was told we could not they were closing . $67 down the drain these guys are money hungry scum bags . Stay away
Good front, water logged back
Ash Brook cannot handle water. The back nine is brutal with literal pumps out in the fairway trying to keep away the swampy conditions. One of the par 4's was converted into a par 3 from the fairway due to this problem. Carts are nice with GPS. No driving range, just a net to hit into. Small putting green, no chipping allowed.
Being the first group out on the day was great at 6am so didn't have a soul in front of us. The location is convenient but overall its a very mediocre course that I wouldn't pay over $60 for. Club house was redone and pretty nice.
Swamp
Same 4-5 holes is a swamp every time, otherwise it's a good course, 14-17 is a disaster
I would not play this course again
I knew there was a reason why I stopped playing this course. The drainage is awful low spots of water in the middle of the fairways and not just 1 hole but the majority. Exhaust all efforts to play other courses if you have to play this one. I live 10 minutes away, and I still won’t play this course ever again.
The back 9 HORRIBLE!!
For the money that Ash Brook is charging you would have expected more, especially on the back 9. It's like looking at a woman from the back thinking she is beautiful, until she turns around. That's exactly what you get at Ash Brook, the front 9 is beautiful, until you get to the back. I played two days after it rained, holes 15, 16 and 17 were flooded. Their drainage system is terrible. There are portable draining systems setup that are not doing the job they are designed to do. Hole 16 which is a par 4 was turned into a par 3 because of the water....smh. Instead of dumping $12 million into the Clubhouse. Allocate those funds into upgrading the back 9 holes. The revenue is generated from the course not the clubhouse. Also tell your grounds crew to stop moving the riding mower when players are hitting their shots from the fairway.
