Pine Hills Country Club
About
Pine Hills Country Club sprawls cross 165 acres of Long Island's protected Pine Barrens. The golf course plays long at over 7,000 yards from the back tees but it is a playable and fair test. It is challenging as well with quite a bit of water and sand coming into play throughout. Towering, mature pines also line narrow fairways. One of the most difficult holes is the par-4 11th. This dogleg left is one of the many holes with water and it also features a green that is severely sloped from back to front. While the golf course is the main attraction, Pine Hills is also known for having the area's best public practice facility. The club boasts a driving range with target greens, a putting green with a 9-hole practice course, and a chipping green with a greenside sand trap.

Golf Advisor: Top Courses in New York (2020 #20)
Reviews
Friendly front and challenging bac nine
The fairway and green conditions is awesome. The staff in Pro shod including starter are si friendly. The driving range and practice green are both well maintained .
Excellent course in Suffolk
This course is very flat, with long and moderately wide fairways. Even areas outside fairways are playable so it is possible to play the whole course and don't lose a single ball. Fairways are flat so the ball is always in perfect positions for ideal shots when on fairways.
The challenge is in distance, doglegs, bunkers and greens which are often deceiving. A player also has to play twice over water hazard.
The course offers yardage book with very useful advices on strategy of the game.
It is possible to ride a cart to the parking lot.
Challenging track with length
Was fortunate to play this hidden gem on a early Tuesday morning tee time. Price with a cart was $45 which is a steal to play a course like this. Only problem is its a bit far for a NYC resident. Teebox and fairway conditions were excellent. Greens were recently aerated but still playable. Layout is great, it's forgiving on most tee shots and it's > 7000 yard length could challenge big hitters. Local golfers are lucky enough to play here often along with other great tracks this far east of Long Island. If you don't mind the drive, this is a must to play for any golfer in the NYC area.
Great course layout
Played in a two round tournament with some buddies and was really surprised by this course.
When you drive in it's nothing spectacular. It's a so-so clubhouse and the driving range looks beat up. I go to the range and realize the distances of the markers are wayyyy off. So I wasn't expecting much.
The course layout here is great. I thought most of the holes were very interesting with tee shots that made you think a lot. The course has a mix of long and short par 4s. The par 5s are challenging but reachable if you hit a great tee shot. The par 3s have a good mix too of easy and hard. Overall I would say the layout was the best part - definitely fair but challenging.
Some issues - The greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and were still really holey. I thought that would have been in better shape by then but normally wouldnt have been a problem. There are some dirt patches near greens which I hate. No one like chipping off rock/dirt.
Overall a fun course with decent value.
Nice day
Course conditions were excellent with exception of the greens which were recently arated I was warned so no complaints will return soon love this place
Pine Hills Late April
It had been about 12 years since I played there, went there 4-27 for a change of scenery. Practice facilities are solid (Range, putting green, chipping area) Played the white tees, but the scorecard is confusing, with two different holes showing Par4/3 and Par5/4 options, with different distances, yet the "total" distance is NOT variable, and there is only one Rating/Slope (72.0 127 on the card, but 72 129 is what shows up when u post online). There is a free course yardage book in the pro shop, with hole pictures and descriptions which I found very helpful.
As for the course itself, the layout is fine. A mix of hole types, inc doglegs, some elevation changes, well placed ponds, etc. Despite the name, not very hilly and walk-able tee to green. But distances between greens and tees are often a hike, and #9 green to #10 tee is a long walk past practice facilities and parking lot. As for course conditioning, I thought there were too many bare areas off the fairways, leading to shots off dirt/hardpan. And I caught the course at a bad time, with greens that had recently been aerated (LARGE plugs) and sanded, and not mowed or rolled. So slow and bumpy! No advance notice of that. Will give it another shot later in the season.
Assuming the greens round into form, a fair test and good value. Nice bar w/ tons of TVs and good food/tap beers in the Clubhouse for post-round bet settling.
Enjoyable Round
Overall a good weekday round of golf. The only issue was they did not honor the GolfNow booking fee, was charged the full twilight rate.
1st time
The course was in good shape. The greens were very fast, many shots that landed short of the green when rolling on seemed to take off and roll off the otherror side of the green. I was not happy with the lack of communication as it was a far trip and wasn't advised that the back 9 would be unplayable due to aeration. The front 9 was nice but likely would have rescheduled had I known I was not getting the whole course experience.
OK
I've played here a few time and it is a good course with a great restaurant, but the greens are always suffering and in rough shape, makes it tough to putt- ball bounces a lot.
Dear Whom This May Concern,
I am sorry that you feel that way, and have not heard that complaint about the green's this year(I have actually heard the opposite). We have recently aerated the course, and would love to have you back in a few weeks to see the progress. We have put a lot of capital to improve the green conditions from the last few years (new irrigation system, and drainage system under every green on the course). Hopefully we see you soon, and look forward to speaking to you soon.
Sincerely,
Joseph Flanagan
Very satisfied
I enjoyed playing here and the guys I played with made the day very enjoyable. Will definitely be back. The gentleman working the pro shop couldn't have be more helpful.
Golf Now cancellation policy.
I have a problem with Golf Now's cancellation policy for Hot Deals. We called the course 8 AM to see if it was closed. It was open. We were the only golfers in the poring rain. The course held up well but we froze!
Summer conditions
I'm always amazed at how good this course looks at this time of year. Greens rolled great tees and fairways were beautifull. Play it!!!!
Great hot deal!
For $23 couldn't beat it. Considering the season, the course was in great condition, especially greens.
February Golf
Can't complain when you're playing golf in February. However the greens were in great shape running fast and pretty true.
Fluke golf weather in February in the northeast!
I played this course 4 years ago. It was in great shape this time around definitely! The cart guy had a attitude towards me. Which rub me the wrong way. He said I won't be able to get in 18 holes. I explained to him I was only looking to get nine in! He wasn't nice to me. Im a guest here you should treat your guests nice! I understand carts have to be in by 530 but other golfers were still out there beyond 530pm! Well I will definitely be back soon . I understand people have bad days. Just wish next time to be treated better when I come here again with me or my wife or both of us.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Dear Whom This May Concern,
Sorry about this miscommunication with your reservation. We did have aeration alerts on all the tee times since we did want to inform the customers of the conditions, but the exact plan was not confirmed till last minute due to the fact we cannot aerate if there is rain in the forecast since it would wash away all of the sand/fertilizer which helps make us one of the nicest public golf courses in LI. We hope that you come out again, and sorry once again for the communication!
