Pine Hills Country Club
About
Pine Hills Country Club sprawls cross 165 acres of Long Island's protected Pine Barrens. The golf course plays long at over 7,000 yards from the back tees but it is a playable and fair test. It is challenging as well with quite a bit of water and sand coming into play throughout. Towering, mature pines also line narrow fairways. One of the most difficult holes is the par-4 11th. This dogleg left is one of the many holes with water and it also features a green that is severely sloped from back to front. While the golf course is the main attraction, Pine Hills is also known for having the area's best public practice facility. The club boasts a driving range with target greens, a putting green with a 9-hole practice course, and a chipping green with a greenside sand trap.

Nice Course But There Are Caveats!
My foursome has played this course regularly twice a week since the season started. We recently became a threesome when one of the group had season ending surgery. Herein lies the caveat...They do not respect the integrity of threesomes. We were forced to accept a total stranger and have him join us. Now you true golfers know exactly what I am talking about. The starter absolutely refused to let us play as a threesome even though the course was not crowded. ( weekday early AM) This guy was the obnoxious type, and insisted on playing from the tips. Sound familiar? But wait, it gets worse. On the third hole I found out he was a smoker, so I was forced to play 16 holes with someone in my cart who was jeopardizing my health and well being. We will not be returning to Pine Hills, even though we do like the course.
Good experience
Golf course was in great shape, can't ask for more on fairway and greens. Pace of play was SLOW. Got stuck behind about a half dozen groups that were part of some men's club and they were clogging up the entire golf course. Backed up from holes 8 through 18. On 12 tee we watched a golfer hit a ball straight into the woods, did not hit a provisional after his five minutes of looking he came back to the tee box to hit a second ball. They lingered on greens and moved with zero sense of urgency. They have also removed blue tees from the course set up. As a single digit one of the reasons I like to play here is the length the course offers. When they remove this set of tees it takes the variety out of the course for me and I wind up only having wedges into par 4 greens. Like the place but prob won't go back. Can go down the road to Rock Hill to play a longer more varied round.
Great course.
Back nine totally different from front nine which makes it interesting as well as challenging. Water hazards basically ponds, but strategically placed. One of my most favorite courses! Well groomed course!
Almost a perfect experience
The course offers free range balls and offers dedicated chipping and putting greens in addition to a grass range. This is pretty much unheard of on Long Island. My foursome teed off on time and finished in just over four hours. The course was in great condition and the greens rolled very true. The course was a bit wet but there's nothing that can be done to fight mother nature. The only drawbacks to mention have to do with the availability of food, or lack thereof. Their restaurant wasn't open when we teed off at 8:10am. When we got to the turn we went in to grab something. The restaurant wasn't serving hot food yet but they did offer stale pastries and rock hard rolls provided by a very curmudgeon man who clearly did not want to be there. Aside from that, the golf, which is the reason why we were there, was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely go back.
Pine Hills
This was an excellent day on an excellent course and I enjoyed it very much.

Excellent condition. Pleasure to.play.
Pine Hills
Course in good shape. Pace of play was fine. Very enjoyable round.
Great time
Definenetly would play it again
Best value so far
Recently moved to Long Island and played several public courses and this one is the best value so far. Good conditions, fair greens(speed), well conditioned greens, fairways and tee boxes. Fun layout! Only issue was pace of play because of so many playing from tee boxes they had no business playing from.
Will definitely go back to Pine Hills
Course maintenance
A few months ago 5" of sand in the bunkers, today 1/4-1/2" of sand in every bunker. Ridiculous!!! Was like hitting off the cart path from green side bunkers. They need to fix immediately. A bit on the pricey to have maintained bunkers like these. Hopefully someone from there sees this and makes appropriate changes
Fun course
What a treat! Fun, challenging course with different looks at every green. This will challenge the fairly long hitters to shape your shots off the tee for good looks at the green. Moderate to senior hitters will need to position your drives for good looks at birdie and par.
Pro shop staff very knowledgable, courteous and helpful.
What a great day!
Aeration
Back 9 were being aerated, causing sandy , sloppy green conditions, otherwise excellent shape
Dear Customer,
I am sorry you had such a bad experience at our course. That day we were not aerated, but deep tinning which is smaller holes done to let the green breath. I would love for you to come back, and have a better experience at our course. If you do want to take me up on my offer please e-mail me @ josephflanaganiv@gmail.com before you plan on coming.
Thanks,
Joe F
Challenging course
The weather was excellent. The course is challenging and nicely kept. The green was excellent but not cut yet. I used all my clubs in this course. I will play again in the future in this course.
Very Nice course
We had a great day and enjoyed the round of golf. The course was in beautiful condition. The only disappointment was that the greens appeared to be recently aerated which I did not know. Putting was very challenging as we all know when this is done.
Spring is here
So 1st round of the season for me here in Long Island and I have to say the course was in good shape especially the greens were very good for one o fthe 1st days of the golf season in the Northeast.
Summer Greens
Great shape and challanging greens
Pace was poor
All together it was a positive experience. It was amazing to be able to get out in February, unfortunately everyone and their brother seemed to agree. Being that this was my first time I cannot say whether our experience was common or not. We played a late round and never expected to get a full 18 in, however without being held up every hole on the front nine and then the absolute halt we came to on the back nine, we could have easily gotten 15 or so holes in. No such luck, only 11. I will go back though and give it another try.
big bang for the buck
course was in great condition for middle of February. Slow play (almost 5 hour round) due to fully booked day. Fairways were good, rough was deep, greens were firm and quick. Tree lined fairways will cause trouble for both right and left misses. Longer hitters have a definite advantage, particularly when playing from the blues. Staff is friendly and competent. Clubhouse restaurant has good atmosphere, food and drinks. Easy access off the expressway. Always a pleasure to play here.
Good course soon to be even better
Pine Hills offers several benefits that other Suffolk County Courses do not: (1) An excellent practice range, with a great putting green and short-game practice area; and (2) Championship tees that can stretch the course to PGA-like length. It is also part of a condominium complex that for the folks who live there gives them golf, tennis, pool, restaurant and exercise room at a reasonable price.
The course itself plays to par 73. It always plays to a slow start as 1 has a difficult green and 2 is a reachable par 5. Pace of play usually opens after these holes. The course itself comes back to the clubhouse after 9. There are some challenging holes, but also a few that seem a bit redundant. I don't like the par 3s on the front but do on the back.
In general, I enjoy the back nine more than the front and think the back is far more interesting and challenging.
The owners have recently dumped a lot of money into improved drainage and sprinklers. Maintenance is always pretty good here and the staff is always very nice and friendly. They are clearly looking to establish themselves as the go-to golf course for the area.
Prices are reasonable for the area. The course is about 90-110 minutes from New York City off exit 70 on the Ling Island Expressway.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Dear Customer,
I am sorry you had such a bad experience due to our bunkers. We are just finishing on two extensive projects that include a drainage system(to improve greens), and a brand new irrigation system (to improve tee boxes, fairway, and greens). After these projects are finished we plan to do a full bunker renovation. If you could please e-mail me @ josephflanaganiv@gmail.com, and I will make your experience better for next time.
Sincerely,
Joe F
