Spruce/Dogwood at Middle Island Country Club
About
Located almost in the center of Long Island, the aptly named Middle Island Country Club is one of the area's most popular public golf courses. The 27-hole layout is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Spruce/Dogwood begins with a front nine that underwent a major renovation in 2008. An island green was added to the par-4 seventh and another major addition was new tee boxes to accommodate women, seniors, and championship play. Middle Island Country Club's Spruce nine boasts generous fairways and large greens where there is plenty of room to grip it and rip it. Take advantage of the scoring opportunities on this nine because the Dogwood nine gets much more challenging. The back nine is a formidable test with narrows fairways and greens with surprising breaks that will have you wondering how you "just missed" it.

Good condition
Good conditionThe course was in very good condition and the greens were in excellent shape playing time was under four hours
Great condition
This course is in great shape from tee box to green
Overall a good experience.
We played Spruce/Dogwood and moved at a nice pace on the front nine. When we arrived on the back nine, the starter put a single out in front of us who had to wait for the foursome that was in front of us to clear. We waited 20 minutes to finally hit our tee shots.
Other than that the course was in great shape with the exception of some bunkers that had little sand.
So much potential wasted
MICC is the type of course where there is a lot of potential built into it. Fairways and greens are green, and the setup for holes allows them to challenge both the amateur and lower handicapper.
However, this is where the potential ends. Greens are HORRIBLY inconsistent. Some are lightning fast while others are pure carpet. This is also happening within some individual greens. The lack of ball repair shows the incosiderateness of the players here, but the unmown repairs show the lack of care of the course keepers.
Forget any chipping or pitching if you are over the green. Pure dirt. No grass. Makes it near impossible to score.
Staff is very friendly, however as many have stated, pro shop and clubhouse can be described as dilapidated at best. Felt so bad for poor woman in restaurant as there was no AC and it was 80 degrees with 90 percent humidity.
The fact I can get a better course at Eisenhower for $25 less than the deal I got on GolfNow shows where the condition of this place lies. A little money and care into this course could make it a gem. Until then, no thanks.
Ladies tee boxes
The course was in excellent shape. My only recommendation is making the ladies tee boxes fairer. On 2 par threes the distance was over a 175 yards. I shouldn't have to pull out a driver to reach the green. Also on 3 par fours the distance was over 350 yards. Again that distance is long for a woman golfer to get on the green in two.
Not too bad
Fairways were damp from recent water had some bare spots . I am amazed that so many people don't repair the ball marks on the putting green . They did have a cart girl check to see if I needed anything. Also the ranger let me play the back nine on oak instead of following the slow group I caught up to on 8.
Good value
This course was in very good condition. I haven't played here in quite a few years but I wouldn't hesitate to play here again. Just wished the cart girl would have showed up more saw her on hole 5 then not again to hole 17.
Great Value
Its now one of my favorites. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape. The course plays very long on some pat 4's and 5's but the large greens gives some relief. Some fairways are wide open and others a touch narrow with trees on both sides. The course provides everything a golfer would want. There was a cart girl but only surprise was the bar closed at 5:00 pm on a Friday night. A bit odd
I'd recommend
Not a bad course to play with a decent layout, there are some spots around the course that could use some work but the greens were decent and true.
Good value, fair condition
This course is in need of some repairs but the value is very good. It's a shame they don't renovate and utilize a potential great clubhouse
Great way to spend the 4th!
Friendly staff. Great service! Excellent pace of play in the morning.
Course is little dry and old gas engine smells bad
9 hole (spruce) was ok but other two is swarm of tree moth flying all over and bugging you whole time
Horrible
Worst course I've played on in a long time. Don't waste your time.
Nice Course
Nice course. Good value. In great shape for this time of the year.
Not bad for the money
Middle Island golf course is a tight track. The fairways are in good shape the greens putt slow and fast making for some frustrating comments. I would play again but not for $75.
Course was in good shape but staff not very friendly.
Staff members had issues with my wife riding in the cart with me even though she was not playing golf and no one was at the course.
Enjoyable round
We played Oak and dogwood
Both courses were in great shape. Challenging with some narrow fairways water hazards and side hill lies.Greens were true but a bit slow. We had slightly over a 3 1/2 round which made it even more enjoyable. Staff was great and will look forward to playing this course again!
Great lay out & well groomed.
Fairways are well manicured, but the greens are very slow ,maybe needs to cut low as the whole experience gets taken away because of the putting surface.
No bang for the buck
Course needs some work. Sand traps were more like concrete bunkers. Greens need to be rolled. Would not play here again for the price.
outstanding value
fairways are wide and plush ! greens are fast. two 9 hole courses are playable for anyone but beginners, I was paired with one. clubhouse was extremely clean !staff was most cordial. course is convenient to the L. I. E. ,worth the trip, you will have fun !!!!
Agreed about the $75.00. I paid $20.00 per person with a cart on Hot deals. 1:52 tee off.
