Stay Away ! SLOW GREENS !!!
One of the best weather days of the year so went here for a nice late afternoon round. They had a bunch of high schoolers there and no ranger. Round took 5 1/2 hours and all the other groups out were twosomes and threesomes waiting.
That's not the worst part. The greens were slower then anything I've played in 10 years and I play over 50 rounds a year. Everyone was cursing about them. The cups were stale and rounded over like they had not been changed in days.
This is not golf. Go to Bethpage.
Long round but at least the people there know how to manicure a golf course.
Nice course but Sooooo slow
I played on a weekday afternoon and the pace was so bad. We were waiting at least 5 minutes on every tee. They definitely need a ranger and I didn't see one at all. The course is really nice and can definitely be difficult. The greens are very small and the back nine has some tricky holes where if you miss right your second shot can be from the bottom of a cliff. Overall nice course but the pace really killed me.
A nice public course with beautiful views
This is a public course. It is a simple layout that is made a little more interesting by the hilly terrain of Long Island's north shore. This was a beautiful day, and the views of the marshland and of Long Island Sound are really beautiful. The tees, and fairways are in very nice shape for this course. The greens, were not in bad shape but are slow and long, as they normally are. If you are used to short, fast, rolled greens you will have to make an adjustment. Overall it was a great day. $27.00 with a cart through Golf Now was a great value.
Home Course
The reception desk and Stephan could not have been any nicer. The course is in great shape and very challenging. A shot off the fairway could easily land behind a tree, so one is penalized. Most of the greens are very small so accuracy is key. We had waited at most tees but the pace of play was decent and a 4 1/2 round. The only issue I had was the greens. They are in great shape but they are extremely slow, probably the slowest I have played this summer.
Great staff Value for money
Only one issue. They need to roll the greens. Very slow & bumpy.
This course needs maintainence
This course was in bad shape. The green were not clean and not properly watered. The fairways had too many rough patches, overall a useless course.
Great staff and venue. Awful greens.
Would have been great if the greens were even slow. They are slow slow. No fun when you have to hammer the putter.
I have been playing Crab Meadow for 45 years. It's a great public course right along the LI sound. My only complaint is the new course management put in the GPS on the carts that constantly ping and shut your cart off if you don't stay on the cart paths. It is totally annoying and unnecessary . Everyone I played with was complaining about it. Get rid of it is my recommendation .
was my favorite course on long island, now that i live in Syracuse. Haven't play there in three years and the course was in fantastic shape and as beautiful as ever. Great view of the north shore on the 16th hole.
Nice course
The course is nice and well kept. The only thing that I didn't care for is the constant "dinging " sound from the gps on the golf carts. I found it annoying. When preparing for a shot the other cart in your foursome pulls up and hear the "dings" from that cart or even from your own cart. There needs to be a way to mute the annoying gps "dings" on the carts. Also it seems that the course is short on carts.
Pace of play
This is a fairly easy and wonderful golf course. Unlike other courses in the Long Island, pace of play is very good. We completed 18 holes in under 4 hours.
Mainetience Staff
The course was in beautiful shape. Pace of play was acceptable. The biggest complaint would be the grounds crew didn't show much courtesy as we played and made it seem like we were annoying them. This seems to be a growing trend. A little education about etiquette might go a long way.
Nice course
Nice course, I would play it again. They have new carts with GPS which is a nice feature but when looking for my partners ball came over a ridge and ended up near a green. Cart warned I was too close to a green. Instructed to put in reverse and back away. Was unable to do it because I was facing downhill and the only way to backup was closer to the green. Had to call for assistance because cart would not respond due to electronic override. This cost me time and the hole waiting for assistance.
Day at the Beach
It is always a pleasure to play Crab Meadow with the Long Island Sound as a backdrop. The day was overcast and cool but the course was in excellent condition. A few too many Canadian Geese and their collective droppings were a small problem on a hand full of holes but overall the course is enjoyable. Nice practice facilities and the snack bar has a fair amount of offerings of both food and drink when you finish the front nine. There is a bar and restaurant for after the round that I have not tried yet but it seems to have a decent crowd whenever we have played.
Great HOT DEAL
Play here often, great course, greens were slow due to the rain but otherwise good. No way I could pass up a 25 round with a cart!!
Will be looking for it again.
the crab
front nine a little tight, I liked the back nine layout better, overall nice scenery along water, small greens, excellent fairways, good bunkers, need some sand in some bunkers although season just started, new management Steve Dietz and Mike Gaffney running pro shop, new electric to a cart, must stay out of restricted areas or cart turns off, 19th hole and hot dog refreshments staff very friendly, only negative was deal of day didn't include range balls. also deal if day is none refundable and can not be cancelled only if weather or course closed....the day I played was mid weekday and greens weren't cut but in nice condition...best value if a Huntington resident $21 to walk, my guest paid $39 with cart average value. I paid $30 for deal of day...no cart for soda on course which I liked...use half way house for refreshments...
Fun Course
Been playing for 30 years. Always enjoy the challenge. New operators have made the course much more playable the last 4 years or so. Only thing that is always not so good the greens. Generally slow and bumpy. Know they have a roller, need to flatten so the ball rolls. Has always been an issue.
