Picturesque
Great, challenging track right at the foot of the LI Sound. Intermittent showers kept the course pretty open for a Sat. 12:15 tee time. Only hiccup was the automated carts which often shut down despite following the cart directions on the video monitor. Added minimum 20-30 minutes to pace of play going 2 mph in reverse many times to get cart back in normal acceleration range. Threw off tempo between shots.
Crab is very good
Always a very good course with water views, nice layout, some very tough holes, in very good shape.
No Leaves!
Have played course many times, but this was the best condition, especially the geeens, the course was in. It was also nice not having to deal with leaves - an issue with many other LI course during off season.
Great Value
Course was well Maintained and definitely a great value for what we paid. Love the layout of the course. Keep up the great work and will see you soon to play another round.
You get what you pay for
played here on a whim because of a cheap hot deal. the location is very nice, right on the long island sound. arrived early and the very nice gentleman let us tee off 20 min before because it was empty (or so we thought). first 9 holes went by in about 90 minutes but the 3 older men in front of us started slowing down on the back 9 - took about 2.5 hours to finish out.
no marshal present, didn't see one once and the course was filled with grounds crew which got a bit annoying towards the end. one of the 3 in front would take 4 shots to go 100 yards which became infuriating. a few yells and close shots but nothing changed.
the rough is extremely quick with many hard dirt patches so expect to lose a few balls. shots that should be just off the fairway became ventures to try and find your ball. some sand traps have gigantic rocks inside so try and avoid those at all costs. small greens as well but not too challenging once you're on. would've left after 12 holes because of the pace but i was having a decent round so we finished up.
most likely won't be returning to this course but if you find a cheap hot deal then why not? give it a try
This course reminded me of Connecticut Golf
The fairways were tight, greens were small and undulated, lots of rolling hills throughout the course. The course was challenging enough were pulling out you're driver when you walk into every tee box wasn't an automatic, which for me, makes play better. There were also a few scenic views of the LI Sound. We got a Golfnow hot deal, but as a town course with a non-residence fee upgrade, I wouldn't have played the course at the regular price, because I don't believe in paying high prices for golf.
Slow
I really like the course itself, however every time I have played here I have had the issue of slow play. It seems that most groups are out for an experience, not necessarily golfing. Groups tend to focus on the social aspect and smoking cigars rather than playing ready golf and having fun doing that.
Potential
1st time acting this course. Layout and all is nice with shots that have to be accurate into smallish greens . Greens extremely slow maybe they were aerated recently I dint know. Also fairways inundated with clover but oh well. It defiantly has potential
Pace was good
I played this course before and it took us 5 1/2 hours to play 12 holes. We gave up. I booked this tee time with trepidation. This round took only 3:40 minutes. It was a nice pace and the course was is in real good shape. Greens were true and rolled nice. Nice scenic course.
Nice Course
Played from the tips and the course still played fairly short. Fairly wide fairways with lots of elevation changes and small greens. Conditions from tee to green are good, but there are some hardpan dirt lies if you spray it too far left/right. 7:30am tee time and pace of play was good overall. There was a slow down towards the last three holes that made us finish in 4.5 hours.
Very nice
Well maintaned course. Tee boxes that were green and didnt need a hammer to set your Tee. Fairway in great shape. putting greens smooth and consistent with a well defined second cut. many holes are cart path only this contributed to the great conditions.

Enjoy playing this course. Pace of play very slow, did see a ranger, but didn't change things. Group in front of us very slow, group behind us kept hitting up on us all day, with no apologies. I love this course, first time so slow .
Great Course
Crab Meadow is my go to course on Long Island. Very friendly staff, great conditions, beautiful scenery and the greens are in impeccable shape. Love this place.
A Good Day of Golf
Enjoyed the course. The holes were routed well.
Nice view along the water. The Greens were in excellent condition.
A day of golf
As far as the weather no one could have asked for a better day. The course was in excellent condition.
The only thing is as a bow hunter I had seen several sign of deer. With that comes ticks so you have to be a certain amount of careful. Let the ball go in the woods and tall grass. Your better off taking the stroke.
I'll play this course as often as I can
great time, great staff
course was in good condition and challenging. great views from all around the course. staff was extremely friendly and concerned with our golfing experience as we were from out of state. very helpful. was pressed for time and did not get to use the dinning facilities.
Customer Service
I play Crab quite often and there appears to be an attitude problem at the front desk. Jim was the front desk guy, Typically the fee paid on GolfNow means no payment required at the club. With Crab Meadow you pay the full fee. I questioned if already paid and he got very snippy with me. There is no room for an attitude when providing customer service. I don''t appreciate this before I step on the course. The starter was terrific and offered us an earlier tee time. The course is challenging and the greens are quite small
