The Golf Club at Middle Bay

This review is for the course management and policies. During a time where there is so much uncertainty, they have a "strict 48 hour" cancelation policy, only giving a refund for your prepaid tee time if someone else books it. How is that acceptable right now? I fully intended to play until I found out that I need to quarantine for my safety as well as others. I called 18 hours ahead of my tee time to cancel (remember you have to PRE PAY) and was not given any flexibility. That's honestly a joke. I'm likely going to be out $60 because of it. I've played here bunch and mark my words, I will NEVER come here again. You shouldn't either!!!

I live on Staten Island. I normally go to New Jersey to play as it s easier then going over Verrazano and then the Belt Parkway out to Long Island. Decided to give it a shot after hearing about Middle Bay. Verdict, Well worth the travel and traffic to get there and play the course. Not many courses offer golf by the water. Wind was whipping on the first nine , not as much on back. Greens are fun and Difficult. Fast , undulating greens make it a great challenge . Wide fairways allow forgiveness. I have played many courses in the try state area, as well around the country and for the money , this courses has great value. Definetly more challenging then a lot of the public courses due to the wind. Overall 8/10. Enjoy

Incredible course. I mean the fairways were more like a carpet. Simply lovely to play. Greens were a bit fast. Pace of place was great. All in all this place is a great manicure course. Simply amazing. I can’t say enough. I will definitely be playing here again. And the water views were great.

If I could only play one course, this would be it, because it is like playing 2, down by the water or more towards the mainland, you must have all aspects of your game on to score well, wind challenges, quick greens that roll true, tough rough to reward shots in the fairway and a beautiful finishing hole. This course survived Sandy and while it's clubhouse was devastated, work has begun to replace it, so the only negative is not having a 19th hole on the grounds, great staff also at the clubhouse so there it is, I'll be back next week!

I was confused about why the architect of this course had several short par 4's (under 350 yards) and yet 3/4 of the par 5's were over 525 yards. The fairways were in nice condition but the rough was in dire need of being cut; they were so overgrown that it was difficult to find your ball if you were a few feet off the fairway. Many of the par 4's felt repetitive, the par 3's were unremarkable, and the par 5's were ridiculously long. No need to go back.

We had to prepay and when we arrived we were informed that it was cart path only but we decided to play anyway. The first fairway was covered in goose droppings and I mean covered. The other ones weren't much better. The rough was high which made finding your ball difficult and slow. The temperature was around 90 and the horse flies were hungry. We quit after 9 holes and won't be going back, all this for $78 (senior rate no less) and they refused to give any kind of discount considering the conditions.

Played Middle Bay for the 4th time this year. Course continues to impress me. Seems to get better and better every year. Greens were a little slow. I met the superintendent who said he had no electric to water so he wasn’t cutting greens until he could turn on irrigation. Makes sense. Sounds like he’s protecting the grass. Conditions were great in my opinion for the crazy weather year we have been having.

Course layout is great. You can spray it around and pretty much find your ball everytime. Got held up on a few holes but overall pace wasn’t too bad on a Sunday morning. Lot of staff sitting around the makeshift pro shop. Not sure if they were workers or just hanging out. Ball machine at range was empty so I grabbed some balls I saw laying around.

Plenty of ice cold beer selection in the beverage cart. She came around multiple times which was important to my foursome.

Overall great experience! Highly recommend playing this course.

This was my first time back in a year. Got a walking rate with 3 friends for $50. This time last year I played this course 5x. This summer they jacked up the price by $20 with no cart included. Last year you could get a round for $50 with a cart. Therefore, I tolerated the horrible pace of play and all the geese droppings throughout the course bc I was able to just sit in my cart. I loved this place bc it’s a nice course layout by the water and the staff is really friendly but at this price point spending 5.5 hours at this place is not worth it. I can play Bethpage Red for less money, not worry about geese droppings, play a nicer/harder course and save myself 30 minutes of driving to Oceanside.

Played on 8/9/2020. I play here a couple of times a year since it is almost impossible to get times at Bethpage. We just had a Tropical Storm come our way last week and maybe that is why the conditions were not that great but the greens are...terrible. They are verrryyyy bumpy and very slow. Putting on the fairway would be my best description. I would avoid this course for a couple weeks.

In desperate need of TLC! This is a solid and challenging track that has obviously not been kept up this year. I try to play here at least once a year, and really enjoy the renumbering of holes (that has been in place for several years now) that allows waterfrontage on both front/back. Wind adds length and generally small greens demand fairways. Guess you need to cut some slack due to COVID but seems like they have OVERABUNDANCE of proshop/ranger staff and no grounds crew. In their defense the greens were in fine shape, but everything else, woof! Isiais storm or not, needs help. Wasnt expecting fresh mow or leaves / branches to be cleaned up yet just a couple days after storm. (Giant swaths of damage that need repair.) Pace was very slow and the rangers tried their best, only so much that is in their control though, no fault there.. During these tough times especially hard to say much to anyone, anywhere ;-)
