great layout

for the competitive golfer, elevations, doglegs, one of the most interesting courses...needs landscaping staff...too much dirt, some fairways ok and greens generally solid, a few bad ones but the layout is really tough. Ranger seems like hes got an issue with slow play but c'mon...this ain't shinnecock, you can't run a $60 course like a country club...lol

Ranger is out of his mind

I have never had so much difficulty with a ranger in my life. We were told off the first hole we are setting the pace for the day and there would be no one after us for 30 minutes. The ranger then followed us for the first three holes watching our every shot. At the third hole he talked to us about pace of play (still no one behind us) to which we brushed off. Get to the 5th hole the ranger is waiting there to lecture us on how tough the next two holes are (taking up more time). We get to the next tee and notice the tee box is awfully far up for the whites. After we hit our second shots I looped back around to see the ranger moving the tee box back to its original positing (STILL NO ONE BEHIND US). We didn’t have a single group catch us until hole #16 which they waited at most a minute for us to finish up putts on a short par 4. I will never play here again in my life and I suggest anyone looking to play here do the same unless you want that ***hole breathing down your throat your whole round.

Course is poor and overpriced

For the amount of money it costs to play here, I would be safe to say that it is a scam. The course is poorly staffed by Perry DiNapoli, as the tee box conditions stay the same as if I was going back once a month. Yes the course is challenging with the dog legs and hills. But fairways are ugly and beat up just like the greens, and the holes. Somers ever heard of a cart person or someone asking about drinks or anything. I don’t not recommend this course for the amount of money it cost to play here. It’s mainly for the the guys that know the owners and people at the club, or if ur rich and and don’t care about paying 50-100$ for a terrible conditioned course

Good Afternoon, The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.

During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.

We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.

Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273

Difficult

The course very challenging! Tight and narrow. Have to be accurate and 250 drivers and lay up. Some Fairways were terrible and traps. Some greens terrible as well. Greens very fast.

Dog Legs

Lots of Dog Leg Holes. Plenty of Hills. Very poor cart paths and hole signage. I suppose if you're familiar with this course it would make it more enjoyable.

DO NOT PLAY-Garbage

This is the worst course I have played in my entire life. From the moment you get there it is terrible. Staff are two rude goons dressed like fools that barely look you in the eye. The range and range balls are garbage. The course condition, layout, design, are awful. Course is burnt, fairways don’t exist, everything rolls OB. Good shots are punished, bad shots are lost. What a waste of land.

Over aggressive ranger

We have never in all of our years of playing golf been forced to skip a hole The ranger told us we had two choices; skip a hole or take a rain check while we were on the heels of the group in front of us the entire time. The group ahead of us was slow which forced us to wait on 6 of our first 8 holes. After we skipped the hole as instructed we never saw anyone behind us for rest of our round.

Overpriced - Under Maintained

The most unfriendly staff you will find anywhere. Immediately upon arriving 10 minutes before our tee time we were chastised for arriving late. The starter acted as if I had insulted his mother when I informed him of our tee time. The entire round we were stalked by rangers demanding we stay on the cart path (we did). Mind you that there is only a cart path on ~50% of the holes. The staff treats this place like Augusta while it’s condition is that of a $15 pitch & putt. Regardless of the course condition, the staff made the entire experience terrible from the moment we set foot on the grounds. If you would like to enjoy your weekend round of golf do not play at Somers National.

Reliable and Always a Good Time

I always like a nice round at Somers. Narrow-ish fairways and a few dog-leg holes. Only played the front 9 but enjoyed myself. This course is a must play at least once every month or 2.
