Difficult

The course very challenging! Tight and narrow. Have to be accurate and 250 drivers and lay up. Some Fairways were terrible and traps. Some greens terrible as well. Greens very fast.

Hi there, The course conditions are a direct impact of the drought conditions we’ve experienced throughout the summer. It is not due to the lack of attention of the maintenance staff. We're still waiting on that much needed rain. At Somers National, we heavily rely on mother nature to generate enough natural water to feed the ponds situated throughout the course.

During your recent round, you’ve probably noticed the extremely low water levels of the ponds. We are a course that relies on adequate rainfall and we are more vulnerable to damage during a drought. We’ve encountered a spell of dry weather that we haven’t seen in many many years. In cases like this, there isn’t much our superintendent and operations team can do other than try to keep primary playing areas, like the greens, healthy and wait for rain. When grasses are stressed by lack of water, they go into drought-induced dormancy where growth slows and the grass loses color. In most cases, the grass is not dead and will regain its color once rain returns.

We try to make every guest aware of the situation and conditions prior to their rounds. We've noted the conditions prominently on our website as well as the booking confirmation notes.

Again, we are sorry we did not provide a positive experience. We are looking forward to better weather conditions in a few weeks. We hope you will give us another opportunity. At any time, please feel free to contact us at info@somersnational.com or 914-342-3273

Dog Legs

Lots of Dog Leg Holes. Plenty of Hills. Very poor cart paths and hole signage. I suppose if you're familiar with this course it would make it more enjoyable.

DO NOT PLAY-Garbage

This is the worst course I have played in my entire life. From the moment you get there it is terrible. Staff are two rude goons dressed like fools that barely look you in the eye. The range and range balls are garbage. The course condition, layout, design, are awful. Course is burnt, fairways don’t exist, everything rolls OB. Good shots are punished, bad shots are lost. What a waste of land.

Over aggressive ranger

We have never in all of our years of playing golf been forced to skip a hole The ranger told us we had two choices; skip a hole or take a rain check while we were on the heels of the group in front of us the entire time. The group ahead of us was slow which forced us to wait on 6 of our first 8 holes. After we skipped the hole as instructed we never saw anyone behind us for rest of our round.

Overpriced - Under Maintained

The most unfriendly staff you will find anywhere. Immediately upon arriving 10 minutes before our tee time we were chastised for arriving late. The starter acted as if I had insulted his mother when I informed him of our tee time. The entire round we were stalked by rangers demanding we stay on the cart path (we did). Mind you that there is only a cart path on ~50% of the holes. The staff treats this place like Augusta while it’s condition is that of a $15 pitch & putt. Regardless of the course condition, the staff made the entire experience terrible from the moment we set foot on the grounds. If you would like to enjoy your weekend round of golf do not play at Somers National.

Reliable and Always a Good Time

I always like a nice round at Somers. Narrow-ish fairways and a few dog-leg holes. Only played the front 9 but enjoyed myself. This course is a must play at least once every month or 2.

Terrible!!

So I showed up for my tee time 5 minutes before we had to tee off. I did not intend to show up 5 min before but traffic delayed my arrival time. When I arrived, I immediately checked in and the greeter told me that I have 5 min till I tee off and I acknowledged him with an apology and that we are headed right out. Mind you, it was just myself and another, a two some, but the greeter insisted on telling me that you know you should be here 20-30 min before tee time otherwise you will lose your tee time. I apologized again but the greeter did not accept an apology. What the greeter continued to say is give me the exact time it was and count down until we got on the tee box. Super annoying and disrespectful for someone who traveled an hour away to visit their golf course and spent $180 on the round for 2 people after thunderstorms hit this areafor the past 3 days. So we get on the tee box, we can’t go yet because you have the previous group on the fairway. So as we wait, we have the ranger come up to us and ask us questions if we been here before or not, we had a quick dialogue and I went on the tee box to prepare myself for the tee shot. The ranger comes on the tee box and stands behind me while I am mentally engaging into my shot. I had to ask the ranger to please move off the box so I do not hit him in my back swing (small tee box). The ranger is now advising me not to take any practice swings while on the box, so I asked him if he had any dirt in the green box designated for divot repair and he said and I quote, “doesn’t matter, no practice swing on the tee box”. I had to ask the guy what is the reason for all of this attention because I have been to many courses and even a member at a prestigious course and never have I been approached like this before. The guy ignored my question and stared at me as I swung my club for my first shot.

The day gets better, my partner and I brought no drinks because we abided by the course rules not to bring your own drinks on the course. There was no cart girl and we could not get anything before hand because our arrival time. On the turn we go inside to grab a drink and get back out on the course. We were inside the open bar for 15 minutes even though there were 2 staff members hanging up signs on the outside patio connected to the bar that saw us come in and did not stop to ask if they can help us. I had to ask one of them if we can get a drink, got the biggest attitude from one of them and then when I asked for a drink they had no cold gatorades. I had to pay $3 for a warm Gatorade that was not stocked in their fridge.

This course is nice but the staff suck! They should all be replaced with A.I because what’s the point of having real people if they want to act disrespectful to PAYING customers!! I would never recommend this place to anyone and in fact I would tho as far as calling the owner to get my money back because this over priced course is a disgrace to the game and the fans!!

Better hitstraight

The course is extremely narrow with woods everywhere. There are only four holes on the whole course you can pull out your driver...including par fives where you have to hit an iron on the tee and leave yourself over 300 yards on your second shot. The course is fine, would probably be better playing multiple times, but I would play other local courses before this one.

Somers You Win, Somers You Lose

Well run and standard issue public course in a wooded development. Driving range and putting green adds to country club feel. Staff and amenities all above average.

The course itself needs some help. None of these holes are for the faint of heart and ball loss to quality of course ratio is off. Unforgiving to a fault. Needs someone with golfing knowledge to adapt where possible. I realize land at a premium but let’s be serious. This is not a good layout.
