Narrowest course ever
I would not recommend this course to anybody. It is insanely narrow, has very slopey fairways, and you can barely use driver on any holes. Absolute waste of money might as well go to the driving range instead while you're at it.
Course is an afterthought
1. Course is a trap for walking. It is insanely undulating, like not one flat area ANYWHERE in the course. Then, they'll charge you $30 to cart it up. So it's a trap. Don't walk it. I did, felt it for three days.
2. Club has this air that the housing development came first, then added the golf course to try to make it more "private". Club screams that it wants to be private but financially can't.
3. If you are going to allow walking as a GC, then at least give them a guide. I had probably 4-5 tee shots that I thought were perfect, but were OB/Red stake/Lost because there is NO HOLD IN ANY FAIRWAY. I get difficult, but this wasn't difficult fun. This was difficult for the sake of being difficult. Course needs water BAD. I only had all pars, three doubles (thanks layout) and two bogeys.
4. Greens are like playing putt putt. Too fast, not consistent, and impossible to read because of the inconsistency. So you just tap everything and hope for the best, even uphill - 14 stemp easy. Par 5's have such extreme dog legs that you have to hit irons off the tees. There are two drivable par 4's on the back that should have probably been designed as a par 3 and a longer par 4. It's like the architect didn't know what he was doing on some of the holes. All the holes are risk and no reward for the risk except the short par 4's.
5. If I am putting the 50+ minute drive from northern Manhattan to go play, I will go to Bethpage, Van Courtland, Hudson Valley, The Garrison 100x before coming to this course. It just simply isn't a lot of fun. Why make a 500+ double dogleg par 5 and make me hit iron off the tee?
Good experience, but I wouldn't play this course again unless I really had to.
Nice course
We played today 6/20 and they course was in good condition. The tee boxes were torched due to volume but everything else was good. The greens were extremely fast, extremely! Staff was great and friendly. Only suggestion would be to clean up areas off holes but that’s being picky. Would play again.
Not a Designed as a Golf Course
I have played this course several times over the past three years - mostly because it so cheap. But I will no longer come back because it is a real estate development that added a golf course that was designed course solely so it would fit the grounds. The greens are ridiculous with most having a 15 - 20 degree slant because they didn't have the money to properly architect them. How do you hit a perfect draw shot on #10 tee, hit the middle the middle of the fairway and have the ball roll downhill into the woods and lose it? Also the course has passed through several owners and the conditions have gotten worse. There is construction on #7 with no GUR markers. I am done with this course no matter how cheap - I will pay up for a real golf course - no more real estate development courses for me.
Don’t go if you don’t like undulations
1. Crazy to walk it. Up and down all day. That’s why the walking rate is so low. There is no flatness on the course or greens.
2. Hudson Hills and The Garrison are much better for the money and drive from NYC.
3. Pretty sure this club would not be open to the public if they had the choice. But, they need the money.
4. Greens were rock hard and needed water bad. All pins were on the credits of hills. Even had a member in my group putt 3 feet past the hole, roll back past the hole and end up ten feet on the other side of the whole. That’s not fun challenging. Had no confidence in any putt because it was a crap shoot how it would react.
5. Design is weird. Can’t hit driver on any par 5 because lay of the land and design won’t let you hit it further than 250 at most. It’s all risk and virtually no reward. And if you’re going to make people walk, give them a guide. I hit 5-6 great shots off the tee and got penalized for it because I simply didn’t know the distance or what the course looked like.
Great experience but probably wouldn’t drive back there.
Dog track
A Cornish course that’s gone wild . A classic set up that’s just bad taste and no appreciation for the game. Simple adjustments would make this classic a beauty the 3 rd hole sand trap has never been touched and if you’re ball rolls in you might get Covid a fair amount of goose droppings too finish off your round will complete your outing. The best part of the experience is the new shirts on the starters.
Course is badly beaten up and overrun with trees
Tee boxes are not level and completely beaten up. The greens are also kind of ratty. The worst is the wild forest feel of the trees which see like they have never been cut back or cleaned out. Its very hilly and ball will roll-off consistently into wild wooded areas even though the shot may have been good. YOU SHOULD NOT WALK THIS COURSE AS IT IS MORE HILLY THAN YOUR TYPICAL MOUNTAIN COURSE. This course is a $20 with cart round not $50/walking
Challenging and fun course

Great for practicing all variety of golf shots
It's a Course Begging for a Review by Stefon
If Bill Hader's SNL character "Stefon" were writing this review, it would go something like this:
"It's got everything: Doglegs left, doglegs right, a double dogleg, water, cart paths out of some third world country'where you have to crawl along to prevent stuff from flying out of your cart from all the dilapidated pavement, fairways that have more moguls than the average double-black diamond ski slope, greens that need repair, impossibly narrow fairways off most of the tees, and did I mention doglegs?"
This is a very difficult course that needs some serious maintenance, and,, even then, would not be enjoyable for the average golfer with a handicap in the teens, unless, of course, that golfer is a masochist and has a dozen or so balls to lose. Staff are very, very nice and the clubhouse, were it open, looks like it would be a nice venue.. But these don't come close to making up for the numerous design deficiencies.and shabbiness of this highly over-rated course.
Interesting Course- Good Value
Interesting course. Narrow with a number of doglegs- player must be accurate to score. Some definite design “quirks”- some short and easy holes and then out of nowhere a 635 yard double dogleg par 5 with a green guarded by 25 yards of water. Course can be scenic but elevation changes are painfully dramatic in a few locations. Greens have limited undulation with average speed for public courses of this tier.
Could see this course being pretty difficult for higher handicap golfers, but definitely not unreasonable.
Conditioning about average for public/muni golf. Not an insult- more than playable, but some tee box/fairway/green issues scattered throughout. Rarely interferes with play.
Friendly staff with modern carts and and a nice clubhouse for when outdoor dining reopens.
Pretty good value for this area and would recommend.
Glad to be back!! As challenging, yet as fun as ever!
Glad to get back to Somers after a few months away. As the title states, as challenging yet, as fun as ever! Staff was excellent (as they always are) and course was in great shape. If you haven't played here in awhile, I highly encourage you to get back. The team has made some fantastic upgrades and the experience is as enjoyable as ever. These last few months haven't been easy but thank you to the Somers team for your continued communication/updates through social media. I was always informed of course conditions and measures being taken by your team for a safe, enjoyable round. Look forward to getting back out for another round!
