The Club at Shepard Hills

About
Located in Waverly, the Club at Shepard Hills is one of the region's finest golf courses. Its central location in the Finger Lakes region is easily accessible from Binghamton and Ithaca, N.Y. as well as Athens and Sayre, Pa. The golf course first opened in 1914 but its traditional layout has withstood the test of time. The course has several holes that are known for both their scenery and the level of difficulty. The layout features undulating greens and some fairways that are tight and others that are wide open. A total of 57 bunkers are strategically placed along the landing zones and you'll also encounter water on several holes. Accuracy is essential on this tough golf course. You'll most likely find yourself using all the clubs in your bag.

Overall good course, worth the money.
Shorter course (playing from blues) but still has it's challenges with blind shots, dog legs, sand protected greens and water. The back nine takes you pretty far out into the hillside with great views and some very fun holes. Staff is always very nice and humorous. Some groups that regularly do play there are not too keen on pace of play, however, enjoying the views while waiting for a group is not an issue for me: Greens tend to be on the slower side, but not always. Fairways roll well and are well kept. Rough is challenging in some areas, forgiving in others. Just a middle of the road course with good views and a good atmosphere.

Course
This course has went down hill ever since new management took over. I remember years ago you wouldn't even be allowed on the course without a collared shirt atleast. Now you see guys wearing tank tops. I can count the number of decent tee boxes on one hand, the rest are like either hitting out of a sand box because there is no grass, or on a hill. If it wasn't for the cheap rate we found on GolfNow to just get out and swing the clubs we would have never went here.
Very Good Value great Views...
Picked the course at the last minute due to questionable weather. Course was much better than we had envisioned. Long for us off of the white tees, some great views of of the tee boxes with lots of terrain change. Course was in good condition considering the amount of rain that fell the day before. Staff was very helpful. One area that could be improved is the directions from greens to next tee box especially going to 10 and then coming back to clubhouse after 18. Otherwise a great day.
Pleasantly surprised at how nice and challenging the course is. Beautiful views and elevation changes
Good value using hot deal
The course was in good shape for the middle of July and as little rain as the area has had. The only negative is the sand on the course. In my opinion, the course should get rid of all sand traps or put some money into them. This has been an issue for several years. Real good deal using hot deals for $10.
An old course with charm...and some quirks
Shepard Hills is a throwback to the turn of the century (early 1900's) country clubs. It went public after the economy tanked in 04' (much to the chagrin of many of the members) and has seen many changes since then. The layout seems a little unusual because the front and back 9 were flipped around and then re-routed to bring you back to th clubhouse on the turn. As such, hole #10 is a LONG WAY from the clubhouse and through a horse farm. Course conditions are usually pretty good across the board and the carts (gas) are well maintained. The restaurant/bar has decent food and the pro shop is adequately stocked. I don't really care for the "pro" here but the rest of the staff seems ok. If you can land a decent rate, its definitely worth a play.
schedule
They did not tell us about their club Championship going on the same day, all they we concerned about was we didn't hold their players up! Thought they should have told us about it!!! We could have gone somewhere else.
Decent course
Was probably impressive in its day. A little landscaping would go a long way. Virtually no difference between blue and black tees. Back nine is more fun than front. Greens were in nice condition. Bunkers decent but sand is very course. I'd wait for a hot deal to play here.
hot deal is the only way I'd play
if it were not for the hot deal, I would not have played. I would never pay full price to play at this course. The layout of the course is fun, but the staff is snooty and the greens are pretty bad on some holes. overall.. 2.5/5
Dry
Very dry. Greens were at least okay. Awkward set up. Decent for 19$. Could use a bit more upkeep.
Greens were in great condition
Enjoyed the round and pace of play. Great lunch menu. Target course and challenging shot making.
