Jacaranda West Country Club

I have to start with pace of play because I can’t say enough good things about it. As a threesome, all mid-double-digit handicaps, we went around in just over three hours! I asked at the pro shop if this was unusual, and they told me that their normal pace is 3 hours 45 minutes, but 4 hours 15 if things are really backed up. Maybe we just got lucky and the pro shop was humoring me, but that was hands-down the quickest round I’ve played in Florida in the last month, By at least 1.5 hours! I’d give them ten stars for pace of play if I could. Can’t wait to come back!

Not that other factors were unimportant. The course layout makes you think about every shot, particularly when theh wind is up - as it was for our round (and still a three-hour round!!). The course was very well manicured for a semi-private course. Greens rolled true (though not lightning-fast) and were well-maintained. The staff was extremely friendly! No rating for off-course amenities because I didn’t get to try the grill room. But a great value for a well-cared-for and well-marshaled course. Keep it up, Jacaranda! Until we meet again.

Jacaranda West is a good playable course for low to medium skill players such as my wife and I.

Wide fairways are good for all golfers. Very nice layout and greens in excellent condition. A little pricey, but it seems all FL courses have raised their prices.

Excellent course. Only draw back if not familiar with the course is that there is no GPS to get overall picture of each hole, and no picture on the tee placards. You have to purchase yardage book in pro shop. Would have been happy to do so; however, the 1st tee box is just enough far away from the pro shop that made it inconvenient to back and get one, as the next groups were already lined up. Some tricky holes with hidden hazards would allow for more strategic shots so as to avoid same.

Otherwise. Great time.

On a Monday I was surprised how swamped the course was. They had people on the back and front by early afternoon. The starter seemed to sympathize but didn't have anywhere to put me. He said, try to go off the back and skip past 3-4 groups and get as many holes in as you can and then come back after and finish. Well, I tried to find a gap but then there were foursomes everywhere. I found a gap and hit a drive but then the group in front was slow. As a longer hitter, I couldn't hit until they were done so then the group behind caught up and came riding up on me asking what I was doing. Of course I explained that the starter told me to slot in but I could tell they weren't pleased, so I finished that hole and skipped ahead past 3 more foursomes. I finally found a gap big enough to get 3 holes in and then at the turn went off hole 1. I had one group let me by but after that I got 9 holes in fine. Nice course. Greens kind of slow but pure, Fairways were some of the nicest I've played down here.
