Do Not Play
We booked thru Golfnow for the Oleander course 3 days in advance. When we checked in we were told in the pro shop that we would be playing Pine Lakes. Got to hole #2 and there were temporary greens for the par 3 at 50 yards. The pro shop nor the starter told us about the temporary green at #2. We called golfnow on hole #3 and all they could do was refund our booking fee which was very nice of them. The greens were in very bad condition. We only played 9 holes and left. We were told by the pro shop that they could give us a rain check but since we were on vacation and not coming back that did not work for us. No apology from anyone. Do not play or at least confirm ahead of time that you are playing the course you booked for. Pace of play was good because not many were playing the course probably for good reason.
no communication
I had reserved Pine lake and was advised upon arriving that they had a college tourney that would take precedence and we would be playing Indian Mound.
Did this tourney just magically appear or had they had it on their schedule for more than 5-10 days? they confirmed my reservation 2 days in advance and then had the nerve to tell me of the tourney when I arrived.
Please ask me about my reservation of the 15th, it gets even worse. I have been playing this venue since I arrived in Ga.26 yrs. ago. NEVER AGAIN.
Perfect day for golf
Was suppose to play Indian mound but I was a single and I played pine lakes alone, not rushed cool breeze perfect day. Course was in excellent condition. I'm glad I'm a long hitter the fairways has noooooo roll whatsoever. Fairways cut nice and ruff was ruff lol. Greens where rolling true but slow nice greens tho. Staff in club house was very friendly and starter as well. Starter and I are from same stat MICHIGAN and lived closed to each other while there. Food in club house was good and had cold beer. Wings and fries where good. I suppose to play LPGA ON MONDAY but may return to Jekyll to play Indian mound. The course was not busy at all. I played a single in 230 mins. Nature was very fun deer would come tote box as you tee offandeould not run when you approached them. Warning if you hit ball in trees don't go looking for it Mosquitos will eat you alive they will actually follow you to the green. Lol overall all perfect day with nice cool breeze and played as a single. Will return very soon maybe even monday. ⛳️
Excellent for the average handicapper.
Played in just over three hours. No penalty stokes. No lost balls. No water to avoid. Just fun.
Nice place to play on Jekyll Island
I got a Hot Deal special. Nice course. It was wet after an evening storm. Good course. Very challenging.
Southern Hospitality...not
The course was in good, not great, condition. They typically let the fairways grow a little longer and you get very little roll-out on drives. Not really a big deal if you know this ahead of time. The greens are usually in very good condition and this was the case for our round. They roll on the slower side but very true. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are now rolling the greens. The challenge is to stay in the fairway. Although not real tight if you miss the fairways the rough will eat your ball alive. You may have a hard time finding it even if you are a few yards astray. This penalizes you appropriately and presents the biggest challenge when playing this course.
We were a twosome who played behind four sloppy old dudes. They had a full hole and a half open in front of them all round and refused to let us play through even as was waited for them to tee off right in front of us. We told the starter Lou at the turn and he said THEY WERE MEMBERS and he wasn't going to say anything. This isn't the first time and it really gives the locals (I am one too) a bad rep at this place. The Canadians who come down in the spring are so courteous and pleasant to play with and understand golf etiquette. It's too bad these elderly bubbas, who looked the part and carried all the right equipment, didn't have the class to match. Driving the cart onto the green fringe, putting with your shoes off. Genteel southern gentlemen indeed. Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) had more class than these 'members'.
This course has a good design
I played in the early morning so conditions were wet and greens, while they had been rolled, were slow but putted pretty true. The fairways are some of the best I have played on. Will play here again.
Very Disappointed
Thank god I only paid for 9 holes! Desk did not advise us of temporary tee boxes and greens. Course horrendously wet, was sinking to my ankles in several spots approaching greens. Fairways excessively wet and soft, so you couldn't get a clean shot without your feet squishing beneath you. Should have been cart path only. Greens very slow and bumpy. I quit trying to play after 6 holes. Course layout pretty boring, not much challenge, not much visually stimulating, although it was nice to see deer at several times.
Please Work on the Greens
Play the Jekyll courses fairly often and really like the whole idea and the facilities and the beautiful settings and the challenging courses. However, why can't the greens ever be in good shape. I don't mean excellent shape I mean just get them to acceptable condition and it would be an improvement. Just cut them occasionally or roll them. Just do something because it detracts from what could be an outstanding experience insteadd of one that is frustrating.
Course Not like the other review claimed
This is a municipal course on a beautiful island. Greens were horrible, they had been air-raided awhile back and they never recovered. Many bald and ground under repair spots on the bumpiest greens ever. The greens are unplayable if you're a real golfer. Fairways being mowed with tons of cuttings left in the fairways. If your looking for a well manicured course this is not for you. It is convenient and inexpensive.
Family reunion golf outing
Very friendly staff; course is in good condition for being a state run course.
Golf Course & Golf Now Are NOT Connected
While the great prices offered by GolfNow are attractive, it's "buyer beware" because you pay first before finding out that the course is aerifying the greens, and you will be playing to one or more temporary greens. The par 3 #2 today with both temp tees and greens played to about 48 yards!
Also, the pro-shop, starter and the first ranger we encountered failed to tell us it was cart path only.
Can't you guys do better job at communicating the playing conditions of the course before we put down the cash.
Desperate need for a starter
The course was very nice but it desperately needs a starter.
The course was packed with twosomes which makes it difficult for a foursome to play because you are constantly having to let twosomes play through. We would let one twosome play through and before we could finish the hole another twosome would be right on our heels. Most courses team up twosomes together to even out the pace of play but the fact that this course dido not have a starter meant that the course was full of them.
Course-Indian Mound
This course fair condition for the play, temporary greens and poor greens in general. Long grass in fair way and very wet!
Not what was expected
Greens were in terrible shape
Course is not in a very well kept manner
Course has great potential needs some TLC
Location, location, location (Hint... keep it in the FAIRWAY!)
2nd or 3rd time playing here while on vacation, and have always enjoyed the course. Design diversity allows/encourages you to play every shot.
Greens are generous and hold shots very well.
Biggest challenge is the longish & thick rough that can swallow a golf ball in the blink of an eye. Had more than one the rolled off or through a fairway and took a bit to find.
That said... I recommend this course without reservation to those who want the challenge.
Should be better
Should be better for the money. Greens are coming out of being aerated. Could be a great layout but the state does not allocate the funds to fully support the course. Great potential not being realized
Always enjoy playing Jekyll
Always enjoy playing the Jekyll Island courses. Oleander is one of my favorites. Greens were not in good shape this time though. Very rough and bumpy. I truly understand the frustration of the tour pro's at Chambers Bay. Had a 72 round going but balls would not stay on line, bounced all over the place.
Decent Value
The course itself was in pretty good condition, but the greens had just been aerated. We rented clubs and they were in great shape. We played first thing in the morning, and the course was still wet. We asked the starter if our rental included a towel. He simply stated "No" and went back into his guard shack. Not the most outgoing character I have ever met. So, we played with muddy balls and clubs for the round.
Great Day
It was just a fun day for some friends that have not seen each other for a year. One of the best rounds of golf I have played in a long time.
