Ka'anapali Golf Resorts (Maui)

Friendly staff, nice layout for a 20 HC; some of the island courses are too difficult unless you’re a scratch golfer. The condition I rated 4 because of areas of burned, or no grass in some of the fairways, but the greens were ok. Very nice views from the holes on the upper elevations.

I booked my tee time for Aug 4th at 2pm through GolfNow at a total cost of $144. A large fire closed the highway that afternoon so I was stopped in traffic and turned back, unable to make my time. I did not want to cancel as I would lose my $24 deposit, but just move my time forward to Aug 5th. I called several times to move my time which the booking agent was able to accommodate. However, I was charged a full price of $156 over and above the initial $24 deposit, so my total cost was $USD180. This was extremely frustrating as the fire was out of my control. Kaanapali said they could not adjust my $156 fee and that GolfNow would be able to credit back the $24, however they refused to honor the original price. I would NOT recommend using GolfNow!

This is the nicer one out of the 2 coureses. Much more scenic. Course was in great shape and we did our around in 3 hours 14 minutes. It was not the cheapest course in Maui but worth playing

Clubhouse staff ,range staff and starter were friendly and awesome but cart attendant acted like this was the last place in the world he wanted to be

Played the Royal yesterday and it was great. Will definitely play it again

You have to catch the Kai on a slow biz day, it’s a known course for tourists that haven’t played golf before and are looking for an activity.

It’s a nice course to play when you can play at a normal pace.

No beer sales offered, I haven’t figured this out yet. You buy beer at the restaurant next door and they have you buy some mandatory chips. Even Utah has evolved on beer policies past this.

Great long course, conditions were excellent and the greens were challenging.

Only complaint was the nats. There was about 6-7 holes that there were a lot of nats. I found a ton of dead nats all over my clothes and body going through them.

The views are spectacular the courses of challenge. The people that worked there are very friendly and very helpful. I’d play here again.

Decent course, but definitely not worth the money. The amenities aren't great, the staff isn't friendly, and worst of all, they don't sell alcohol on the course, nor can you take hard alcohol to go from the restaurant.

The golf course sucks. It’s short, the greens were extremely slow and grainy. Extremely overpriced for conditions. Course offers zero alcohol, the course has one bathroom. The tee boxes are not flat. Brown dead spots all over. Save ur cash

Beautiful... Getting out of the rough took some adjustment. Greens are protected by sand traps. I will try the Kai course next time we are in Maui..

Excellent golf course with panoramic views. When makes it very challenging for the afternoon. Traps make you think on every shot. Challenging but very playable. Very much enjoyed my round!

I had a good time on this course because it’s a little bit shorter and more reasonable for a high handicap player. The staff was very nice and handled everything very quickly. Golf carts were top notch with good GPS tracking. The only criticism I have is that the greens are very bumpy. There are a lot of weeds on the greens that make it very impossible to make any putt over 15 feet. Other than that, it was great.

I played course before but not again. This is how the day went from beginning to end. The attendant at the bag drop greeted and unloaded the car that pulled in behind me before he came to me. 2) The attendant at check in initially could not find my reservation (840am) commenting that GolfNow reservations generally start at 11am. She found it after I showed my phone verification.

3)cart attendants busy holding very extended conversations with people they seemingly knew thus ignoring others. I was told about the location of the driving range by one and given instructions (walk to range with a few clubs) by another. 4) The greens had sand on them from necessary top dressing (players should be notified on booking). 5)Signage for the direction to the holes across the street was not clear and worse and most dangerous is the lack of a stop sign for car traffic on the street. 6) The beverage cart did not show up until hole 15 green! Beverage cart attendant was pretty laid back, even for Hawaii. 7) The was no one greeting players at end of round. No club cleaning or unloaded to the bag drop. 8) Needless to say, This was not a nearly $300 experience.

I played 4 other $300 golf rounds in Hawaii over the last 2 weeks. Royal Kaanapali was not up to snuff.

The Kai course is simply not worth the price of admission. Nearly every green was sanded, yet no one on staff made us aware of it, nor were any discounts offered. There is no food at the turn, and you will be lucky if you see the cart girl more than once — so beware. Pack your own lunch and drinks. Or better yet, avoid the Kaanapali courses altogether and head down to Wailea Emerald or Gold (Blue not recommended) or up to Kapalua. Yes those courses are expensive, but you will get what you pay for.
