Good price for West Maui

Great deal for prime time. Great golf partners. Pricey club rentals but probably "par for the course". Wouldn't have gone without GolfNow.

Great resort course

Resort course the way it's supposed to be. Great condition, nice views, and fun golf. I'm a 12 handicap, shot 82 from white tees and had a great time. Single digits should play back tees. Pretty open with easy to hit fairways. Greens are typical Maui grain and good size. Good shot to green rewarded, lot of greenside bunkers for others. Minimum of blind shots, some elevation change and wind does affect shots. A great time, and a good staff.

Great greens

Course was in above average condition, lush, with excellent greens.
Pace of play, especially considering a noon T-time was good (4 1/4 hrs)

Great course design. Fast greens.

The Royal Course has been the host to many professional events. The course design is great and the staff is very friendly. The greens are fast and tricky. A lot of traps make shot making and course management a must. A great Maui golf experience.

Not what it used to be!

I have been playing this course for years as a visitor, but was very disappointed this year mainly because of the pace of play and the fact that there was no ranger to correct the reasons for the slow play!

Had fun at the least expensive option in Lahaina

I discovered that golf in Maui was more expensive than I like to pay, so opted for the least expensive option, the Kai course after one o'clock. Had fun, a medium quality layout. the greens were some type of heavy grass that I was not used to, and I found them difficult to read and putt. I greatly prefer the golf courses in Kauai; less expensive, more beautiful, and excellent fast greens. That said, I'll probably play the Kai again for the same reasons as above

Nice coarse

The only drawback were the bunkers; it's compacted underneath.

A Fair Round

Yes, it's in Maui but they shove you around like a tourist. I've not been here before I have questions, so don't be rude and offer some service. The course was fine, carts were okay - good thing it was Maui and the company was good.

Over priced. Bunkers are LOW on sand. Starter staff (downstairs) are super friendly!

Because this course is in Maui and so close to Kapalua, it does suffer by comparison. That said, it's challenges are primarily the wind. It has 2 reachable par 5's and 2 unreachable par 4's (depending on wind of course#. And that really gives you an idea of how this course will challenge you. The fairways are relatively generous and in good shape #some brown spots). Greens are Hawaiin grainy...fast down, slow up, and will break with the grain significanly--and they're in good shape. The bunkers however, are in terrible shape--so much sand is missing that the felt is visible and will catch your club when you 'try' to hit out. The course is way overpriced for what you get #and can get at nearby courses#--Golf Digest simply stated that with Kapalua so close and Kaanapali's prices, why even bother #I agree#. Conversely, just 2 years ago, this course was a great deal! Green fees were around 40% less AND they offered an all-you-can-play deal for $499 #that was 7 days unlimited for BOTH courses#. It seems management simply wants to raise prices as much and as often as they can. Big turn off and the reason I won't recommend #if you can get a great golf-now deal, then definitely check out#. Staff, especially the boys who set you up and greet you after, are real characters and are the best thing aobout Kaanapali!

No let breaks

Green is tough to read. No breather holes. Must have high trajectory ball flight to score. Too expensive. There are better and prettier courses at Wailea and Kapalua for a better price.

Great experience in Maui!

The opportunity to play Royal Kaanapali was once in a lifetime. The holes are consistent throughout with a good balance of distances and difficulties. There is only water on holes 1, 17, and 18. The greens are a challenge, but everyone knows that going into it. The staff was extremely friendly and make the experience that much more enjoyable. My wife rented Nike clubs that she really liked. They provide you with a wet towel as well as dry one and they clean your clubs when you complete your round.
The golf was amazing as well as the location. It was affordable because of Golfnow and my wife and I are lucky we had the opportunity to play Royal Kaanapali.

Average course, very convenient location in Maui

The Kai course was in good shape and played like an above average muni. However, it is a fairly short course. I played the tips and it was still just 6,380 yards. The fairways were well-maintained, and although they had a little slope, I felt most of my lies were fairly even. The greens were well-maintained and fairly easy to read and control your speed. In general, the Kai course is on the forgiving and easy to score side. The staff here was also very nice - including the people in the pro shop, the guys who prep the cart, and the cart girls who serve food.

For comparison, I played the Kapalua Plantation course a few days before - and the Kai course is very easy in comparison. Kapalua fairways all had major slope and greens were incredibly fast, with minute contours that were very hard to read.

The only downside about Kai is the price. The course isn't really worth paying $150-200, but then again, you're paying for the location in Maui. I was staying in Kaanapali - and played here because I didn't want to drive 45+ minutes. I'd consider playing here again if I found another good deal on golfnow.
