About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Good value for money
First time here. Realizing it was the oldest course on the resort, I now understand why it was cheaper. Overall very satisfied, front 9 was faster than the back. Greens were excellent. However, had a 2 some in front walking and would not let us play through. Plus some sort of soccer golf for kids on back. Not complaining, I realize this is family friendly. Would play again.
difficult but fair
white tees are plenty unless your single digit. great views and excellent condition.
A victim of the golf recession
Hawk's Eye is potentially a great course on a fabulous piece of property. Unfortunately, lack of play seems to have severely limited their maintenance budget. I think they do a good job with the resources that they have.
The course takes advantage of the northern Michigan landscape with plenty of doglegs and elevation changes. Landing areas are fair and generous, greens are very large and undulating. I think you will like the course but will feel as I do, that it is a shame they don't have a larger maintenance budget.
Great course and views
The course has great views. The undulations of the fairways make a well placed shot a premium. Pleasure to play
Slow play
Had to wait for foursome I front to find balls, and watch poor shots. No consideration to allow us to play through. No course Marshall around to watch flow of golfers. I will never return to the Summit.
First Class
Cedar River exceeded my expectations. Perfectly groomed! Exceptional staff! A definite course to play!
Quality course
This course was in excellent shape and staff was very friendly. The course is pretty open making most shots playable. The challenging part of this course was the green's. Lots of breaks and some right before the cup which caused me to three putt three times in 18 holes. All in all a fun course to play and is in Excellent shape tee to green.
A great golf experience
We recommend this course highly for all golfers visiting this part of our country. Very good conditions, interesting layout, alar a fair price!
Tremendous value.
To be able to play 18 holes on a well maintained course for only $18 is the best deal around. My only complaint would be the type of yardage markers. Painted concrete circles? Lack of ball washers was a slight annoyance. Only about 7 on the course.
Beautiful course
Great couse, nice fairways and greens, well laid out, well marked, lots of trees but not like a lot of N Mi courses where every hole extremely narrow. Only lost a couple of balls and I'm a bogie golfer. Greens very true, medium speed and well kept. Enjoy!
Terrible course
This course is relatively well maintained. The main problem is that there are very few yardage markers and the cart we had was a death trap! The brakes on the cart hardly worked and the brake lock did not work. The greens are well maintained, but they have 2 holes on each green. One is the real hole, and the other is a giant hole. I came into many situations where the giant hole was interfering with my putt approach to the real pin location. The other issue is that they let foot golfers out on the course at the same time, which really slows down the pace. I will never play this course again, and would not recommend it to anyone.
Hawk's Eye-Great Value
Great, hilly course with tons of elevation changes. Greens excellent. Fairways good. Well kept and a hoot to play. Winds throughout woods with great ambiance. Slobs play here & we picked up their beer cans but what can one expect for a resort course in this day and age. We'll definitely go back.
This course was fair but tough
Tough start with blind shots early and often. Greens were quick but rolled fair. Loved the layout especially the back nine.
Must try it to enjoy it.
My friend and I spent the morning on the Cedar River course and enjoy the course very much. It has problems and wide enough fairways even for not so great golfers like myself. Always a pleasure to golf Shanty courses.
nice greens
The green conditions were excellent. My wife and I used Golf Now and paid $20 per 18 with a cart. You can' t beat that.
Great round on a great day
Beautiful course in great condition. Good challenge but very playable. Would love to bring a group out for an outing.
Good $40 course not $60
Wide fairways, large rocks in the bunkers some not playable. Greens hard but fair fore the average golfer. Fun to play!
Worth visiting
A nice course with awesome views.
There were a few "Foot golf" (golf with a soccer ball?) players using the same course though. Also, some greens (3-6 note:
maybe) had 10" wide holes with practice green type flags - in addition to regulation-sized ones.
NOTE: star ratings in this review do NOT reflect actual impressions. They couldn't be entered accurately or adjusted once the initial inaccurate reading was recorded.
Fun Course
Shanty Creek Summit is an excellent choice for the older player who hits his drives 200-240 yards. The holes are not overly long, even from the back tees. The terrain is varied with some steep hills to hit over and through. All in all, the three of us had a great day of golf on this course.
This course has great features.
There were only a couple of holes that were somewhat challenging.
The views were excellent.
The greens were fast.
They have a very nice halfway house very accomadating.
Sufficient port-a-johns that had privacy surrounding them.
