About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Wooded layout with large, fast greens
This course is a very nice break from some of the really high-priced resort courses. Playable yet challenging. Get to use of every club in the bag.
Add this one to your list to play
Very nice course the front 9 is a little flat and straight forward but wait to you get to the back!!! The layout changes drastically lots of nice elevation changes, dog legs, and it opens up a little more than the front. You got to play this one we did (27 holes).
Beautiful layout
This Weiskopf course is a player friendly layout. Very few blind shots - great look for tee shots and relatively wide fairways. Not a lot of rough though before the forest comes into play! I played 3 rounds in two days - no round was longer than 3.5 hours - and two rounds I played by myself were just over 2 hours each in length. Very friendly staff. I very much enjoyed my time here...so much that I forgo and opportunity to play the Legend course.
The course is very challenging due to all of the undulation and high rough.
The course was very scenic and undulating. It seemed like we were always hitting to uphill greens. When we didn't keep the ball on the fairways, we were heavily penalized with extra shots due to the exceptionally high rough. We forgot to ask if that's typical during the entire season. If you're not hitting the ball straight, your round will be very frustrating and your score will surely be higher than normal. If the rough isn't always that high, we would play here again.
Love this course
This is my favorite Michigan course. I play it every year. A challenging course that is still woman friendly.
This course is very nice
Could be nicer green to slow. The course could have more flowers
Good condition.
Thick lush rough.
Greens slow.
Staff very friendly.
Great up north course
Excellent course! The conditions were wonderful and the staff was great.
Tee's to green's great shape
We played on tue., the course is closed on mondays. It was like we were the first one's on the course in a week, everything was perfect. employee's were working on different area's of the course through out the course, would stop working to let us play through. great track, very enjoyable.
Great track - the fall colors made it extra special
We played on a perfect October day. The course was not busy and we had time to really enjoy ourselves. Put this on your "must play" list.
Fall Rates and Pristine Condition
From tees to green, the course was in fantastic condition. Greens were as close to perfect as you might expect. In October weather is always a factor, but this course remains one of my favorite Michigan courses; weather permitting. Interesting, challenging holes and phenomenal views. 5 stars!
course well maintained and great greens
This is a great track, greens can be difficult but reasonable. Very little play the day we played and beautiful conditions. Very well maintained and greens consistent from hole to hole.
great views and a lot of surprises
Very impressive Palmer course with great views and rolling hills.Cant wait to play it again.
course good for male or female.
This course is more open and somewhat easier to play then other courses in the general area.
Great variety of holes
We played this course once and found the front 9 were easier to play, The back was scenic and a little harder for us anyway.
This course is worth the drive to play
The Legend was a wonderful experience, the staff was great in getting us on the course, and what words would descrbe the beauty and how the course is built to the lay of the land as it winds through the hardwoods of the Up North Michigan countryside. The tee boxes and fairways and greens were in great shape considering the extremely hot summer we experienced. I would recommend this to everyone, and we played this course for a great price through GolfNow.
fun little course
nice course was fun to play would do it again relaxing time not push could enjoy day
great course...would love to play again
it was a great course.....I loved playing it...i would love to go and play it again.
Tight, well-maintained mountain course
You need to hit it very straight to enjoy this course, but if you do, it's a ton of fun and playable.
Jewel of the North
I had played every course in the Bellaire area, and worked at Shuss and Shanty as a teenager, I had always heard about Cedar River but never had a chance to play. After playing, it is now a course that I'm going to play every year on my trips back to MI. The course is in excellent condition, it is cut through the forests, but wide enough that you aren't penalized on every hole for slicing or pulling. There is not another course that I've played that comes close to being like Cedar River, and anyone who has a chance to play needs to take advantage.
